The yoruba tailor who ran away with my money I fully paid him for my traditional wedding attire is igbo abi? As long as nigeria keep playing the ethnic card in eveeything, we arent moving forward. Go to Sabo markets and see if Hausa guy will not scam u live and direct. 11 Likes 1 Share |

Scam is seen in this country as smartness, its now a culture.......make we chop am Its not particular to any tribe, its a national problem. There is a popular seller of TVs here who duped me last year. He sold me a bad Tv and shipped it to me, I had to fix it in Abuja and send it back to the village. I have left him to him and his God When dealing with Nigerians, proceed with caution till further notice, although I have transacted a lot of business here but that was when there was sanity, now things don change. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I haven’t been to Alaba market or computer village recently but I buy a lot of things from online platforms like Jiji and most of the vendors selling there are based in Alaba or computer village. And you know what, sometimes I pay before delivery and some other times I pay upon delivery. But I have never been cheated notwithstanding that I have bought all sorts of things even in millions and have them delivered to my door step. I am not gonna argue whether these markets have bad eggs or not, but they have served me with a lot better deals than I can get directly from the shops. In any open market anywhere in the world, you need to always be street wise to avoid being cheated. Otherwise, you can go to the likes of “Games” and other big supermarkets but be ready to pay more. It’s that simple. 1 Like |

Its not about alaba boys only, but you the customer, if you want to buy electronics, perform due diligence, visit as many shops as possible, preferably don't go with money when doing your diligence, you would learn so many things if you take this advice. Secondly the fact that a product is second hand does not necessarily mean that it must be cheap. Example at alaba you will see samsung curved tv selling for 300k. You will also see some selling the same tv for 100k. While 100k is money, ask yourself how much is a brand new version, ask why the same product is selling for different margin. The traders will let you in on the secret. They are in competition with each other Lastly go for tested products. While tested products might not be cheap, it will spear you heartache. Don't b like my friend who i took to alaba to buy a curved tv. After seeing the tested version no defects refused to buy at 300k. because some people were offering him the same product for 100k. Despite showing him the disadvantage of buying non tested tv. He still went behind to buy the non tested for 85k. After 2 weeks he starts calling to inform me how alaba boys duped him 9 Likes |

Cyoung4real:. Still maintain it's a free economy. It's not right for you to steal from innocent people because they want value for their money. I have my fair share of dubious elements in various NIGERIAN Market, but you know what, I always make the right call. Military guys are bad but they have their usefulness. Why can you do a decent business? 2 Likes |

Johnrake69:Thank you very much for this insightful piece! The OP is just yarning dust; speaking like a true accomplice. In my life, I have never heard of any good tale coming from that market. Just last week, my neighbour was scammed in that same market. He bought a Television (tokunbo), it was tested and certified O.K only for him to get home to find out that it's not working. He later returned the T.V, interestingly, he met another customer who came with a policeman to do same. After every every, the trader replaced the T.V, he tested the new one and it worked perfectly. On getting home again, the usual happened; T.V no gree on. It was just giving sound. The man became confused. He now remembered what I once told him about how I buy all my stuff online (JUMIA or KONGA). I can't allow my hard earned money to just go to waste like that, I fit use Antelope horn curse the person. 3 Likes |

Onlinealaba:This point is as baseless as a basket filled with water. Just because a dealer quotes a ridiculous price means it must be scam? So the western world, that some organisations are now also adopting here, where there is a black Friday price crash are also scammers? You see a TV set whose normal price goes for say 200k being sold for 20k on black Friday.By your own awkward reasoning it must be a scam? They rip you off too when they quote high prices in alaba and some other markets. Furthermore, the so called union leaders know these scammers,so why do they still allow them operate? They have shops they take people to to rip them off.Are those shops invisible. Your point here is zero. 1 Like |

The truth is those in authority knows the shop owners that carries out such scam, cause they do settle them, so even if they make the report much won't come out of it. 3 Likes |

Ygrette:Jiji is nice ooo. Because the people will come to your house or meet you in a safe place of your choice and you will not be in an hostile environment. I bought my Generator and Car navigation system from Jiji and No problems at all. they are working perfectly and have been for close to one year now. Just do not agree to meet someone in a private place.always meet up at the parking lot of shoprite etc. But you cant beat GAME and KONGA and JUMIA for 100 percent safety and guarantee 2 Likes |

Onlinealaba:This is my issue. If you are not a thief yourself why will you allow scammers and criminals operate among you, risking a bad name for the few good. Then you turn around and blame the victim saying he should be able to differentiate between genuine businessmen and crooks . This is the Niggerian logic I cant wrap my head around. 5 Likes |

seborrhic:Shebi I talk am before sey the OP na accomplice. That a person wants to buy a product at a ridiculous price shouldn't give the seller the licence to scam him. The way some people reason backward ehn. For the record, my first home theatre which I bought brand new was less than 30K on Jumia and the thing served me for 4 whole years before I upgrade am. As I type, it's with my kid brother who is flexing it. Remember I said less than 30K, and it was brand new. You have spoken the truth, those so-called Union leaders are not serious about curbing this menace. All they do is pay lip service. Let them continue until no one patronizes Alaba Market again, by then, them go get sense. 4 Likes |
