Well Sociology is a very good and solemn course. Remember that you have to do a lot statistics which easily makes you a good data analyst, all you need is a good knowledge of computer and Microsoft spreadsheet program. Always look out for data analyst positions. All the best

Something must be wrong with you if you think all that happens in telecommunications is just engineering.. There's finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing and Sales etc..

There's a whole lot wrong with your post. It reveals so much ignorance on a deep level.

I don't like dummies quoting me please. Look elsewhere, thanks.

Bro just shut the FVCK up and stick ur ass to your job!
If you could have only enlighten me, we won't be here, maybe you took my reply to harsh! I meant no harm, I was just surprised as per what u studied not saying communication industry is all about engineering and communication

As a sociology you are most qualified to work in any human endeavour. Anywhere human beings are is your place of duty. I am a sociologist, have an M.sc Criminology and i am the regional manager in a well reputable insurance company. My course/class mates are all doing very very well. Some are in the Nigeria military, many in DSS, some in NPF, some in customs, some in the banking sector, 5 are legislators.
Good luck!

Whatever you study does not matter all the time, let the grace of God locate you and you will be good, but go for what you have passion for.

But the truth is that no matter what you study in Nigeria . Go and learn a skill .

My kids will learn Skills before going to the university.
Nigeria education is a total waste of time . I have never worked with my certificate .my side skill is now my main hustle.
And what do you mean by skill?

The course and the likes of pub admin, political sciences and the so Called Para medical courses na waste of valuable time..

Please mention the list 'paramedical courses' that you think are a waste of time?

Not my strength, not any so-called intellect.
It was only through the help of God.

My point is that, while there are certainly courses that looks like worthless in the Nigerian environment, hardwork on that course— earning a 1st or High 2.1— with attendant skills will make you rise to a position that would seem to flatter you.
I’ve met many Nigerian graduates who are unable to string a simple paragraph in a critical essay. Or enable to understand the simple issues of macroeconomics, geopolitics or even climate change/sustainability. That is mediocre and even if you have an excellent result, you are likely to remain in a mediocre market.

Bro which is a better course, political science or sociology?

Sociology.
Sociologists are in high demand today than ever before. We needed a sociologist for an engineering research project and couldn’t submit a proposal without one. Most research and industry demands a multidisciplinary approach which is good for sociologists.

Again, a sociologist can do what a political science fellow can do; but a political science graduate would not be accepted for a sociologist role.

I am in academics, not in your field though. Getting there is very difficult. Its like getting a federal government job slot. And more difficult because lecturers are paid better than civil servants of the same level. I hope that you are on at least, 2:1? You need to realise that everyone in pub admin, sociology, pol science etc wants to lecture. And 90% of you are on 2:2. Competition is crazy. Don't sit there and think that lecturing is an easy way out. It will end in tears oo.
My advice to you is to learn a skill. I am also into farming among other things. Even if na mechanic it is better. Many people were sacked when lockdown started but plumbers and electricians were still going about their business fixing TVs and blocked toilets. We Nigerians like going to school like water because it is cheap. Many people here who are giving you hope will not tell you how much they paid to get the slot. Some of them are from influential families. Some are even on first class, but they're here giving you hope and you too you're happy.
Can i get your number please?

What branch of engineering?

Go for mechanical if you are thinking of the core engineering areas.

Agreed, some of the comments maybe discouraging but it is the harsh truth! There's no need to sugar coat it.
This is not to scare anybody but to help prepare for the reality ahead.

I still wish I was well primed for life after university. Instead I was told to just study hard, get a good grade and a good job is assured.
The reality shock I got after school almost sent me into depression. Apart from the north(except Abuja), there's no part of this country I didn't travel to in search of a job. I have slept in a motor park in the quest for a job.
I am grateful to God that life is better for me today but I always tell whoever cares to listen the truth as it concerns education and jobs in this country.

My advice:
Whatever it is that you are studying, by the side, learn how to generate income on your own, learn how to increase 1kobo to 2kobos.
Ask yourself if I don't get a job with this certificate, how do I intend to survive. Answer that question and you are good to go.

My 2cents!
Thanks

I read Sociology. I don't regret it.. I am Currently an Health Entrepreneur but applying all my sociological skills while on the job.

Done NGO jobs, civil service, customer services in private sector, and many others before I decided to pick a societal problem and focus on it which is what sociology is all about. Am proud of the few people whose life I have been able to lighten up with the problem I solve. Am still a work in progress. Never stopping.

Change your mindset about certificates and jobs. Sociology exposes you to societal problems and develops your critical thinking abilities to solve those problems. It's broad and helps you fit anywhere.

The first thing people ask me when they meet me is if I am a medical doctor. Lol. I only read Sociology but as a problem solver and with my research abilities, I know much more than your doctor.
