Chelsea are set to announce Kai Havertz as their sixth summer signing today.

Chelsea will reportedly announce Kai Havertz's transfer from Bayer Leverkusen today after weeks of negotiations. The midfielder was as unused substitute for Germany in their 1-1 Nations League draw with Spain last night.

Chelsea will break their record transfer fee after agreeing to meet Leverkusen's £90m asking price and they will pay £72m up front with the rest made up of instalments and add-ons.

Havertz will be put through his medical today and an announcement is expected within 24 hours.

"Confirmation of Kai Havertz transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea expected in next 24 hours," the Athletic's David Ornstein tweeted.

"Fee just above 70m + add-ons. Medical not done yet.

"Leverkusen and Chelsea expected he would be an unused sub in Germany v Spain last night to avoid risk of injury and that happened."

Once the deal goes through Chelsea's total spend this summer will topple over the £200m mark.

Over £80m was spend on capturing attacking duo Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig, respectively.

Ben Chilwell arrived from Leicester for £50m while fellow defenders Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr were snapped up on free transfers.

Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz does not expected Havertz to return to his club after the international break.

“Unfortunately, our squad has not yet been determined,” he said on Monday.

“I don’t expect Kevin Volland and Kai Havertz to train with us again.

“It is possible that other players will also change. We definitely need to bring in players.”

Frank Lampard was quizzed on his side's spending spree following the 1-1 draw with Brighton in a pre-season friendly last weekend.

"We have an idea to try to add to improve, as you should do at a club of our level," he said.

"And we know that has not been absolutely possible for us, and we knew the ban and all this talk, and it was important for me to try to improve the squad.

"And with the players that we are bringing in, it feels that way, but we need to be careful of getting too far ahead of ourselves because we need to give time to players to come in and adapt, to the way I want us to play and to their team-mates.

"But I think the moves we are making our positive, so I am excited and then it is up to us to get our heads down and work very hard."
