But you also excused the Politicians in your Post/heading while pillorying the members of the Publci who beat Firefighters that came to the farm without a Hoe! undecided

You should have used a heading like WHY NIGERIANS NEED TO START BEATING POLITICIANS WHO STEAL MONEY MEANT TO BUY FIREHYDRANTS FOR FIREFIGHTERS
or something like: WHY NIGERIANS SHOULD BEAT THE POLITICIAN, INSTEAD OF BEATING THE FIREFIGHTERS WHO SHOW UP WITHOUT ABILITY TO FIGHT THE FIRE.

This your post, as informative as it is, is also tilting towards the usual "Praise-singing /Tuale attitude" of most Nigerians. angry

Are you OK? Where did I excuse politicians?? Did you actually read the piece?? Where do you think this came from?? Why don't people read??

Who are the people that are meant to provide these things?

Firefighting equipment are meant to be provided by governments and these governments are led by politicians. Politicians are usually asked questions about security, the economy, jobs, roads, etc. when they are campaigning for office, but they are almost never asked questions about the Fire Service, yet people keep attacking innocent fire fighters. Your local government chairmen, state governors and the president are the people that are meant to provide equipment for firefighters to use, but you never ask them about these issues, yet you attack innocent firefighters that are trying to do a difficult and dangerous job with little resources. Everybody forgets about the Fire Service during elections, only to attack them during a major fire outbreak and then forget about them again after the news of the fire outbreak has died down.

This is educating and insightful. Well done Mr. Naptus2.
The problem is how do you get the general public to know this?

By creating this thread.

1) There are people in government that visit this site and hopefully they'll get some ideas from here.

2) You as a Nigerian, the next time a politician comes to campaign to you you can ask him about his plans for the fire service.

3) You can also create awareness to get people to stop attacking firefighters.

Firefighters are a part of the failed government, giving them a brain resetting beating is a way the people pass the message that Nigerian government is useless.

Imagine waiting so long after calling fire service and they turn up to a raging fire with an empty tank!

Wonder how long it will take the government to get the message.

So far as the Fire Service is still controlled by the FG, then we will keep having these problems. I personally do not think it would have been this bad in Every State individually. So keep waiting for FG to replicate a functioning Fire Service in Every State just as there are functioning Police Service in Every State.

Anyone that fights against these people will offend God.

Go to their offices and see for yourself what manner of infrastructure goverment provided yo them. The state government are only worse off. All they know is to send job seekers there to be given jobs. Their vehicles are largely inadequate and outdated . non I repeat none of them can combat successfully any fire from high rise building with all these terrible overrated and old fashioned over priced equipment.

Only a few states are serious about Fighting fire but its still not a priority to most government.
There is no known law to punish any road user who refuses to make way for them during emergencies especially in commercial cities like Lagos everyone behave like goats while behind the steering wheels even ambulances are not left out. So what magic do you expect from these poor people.

Nigerians are a huge problem. Now that the whole situation is affecting everyone after sentimental voting in 2015, we are still not bold enough to come out to speak out mind. They gag us at every giving opportunity. We allow them to scare the dead out of us. Rice is 25k-35k now imagine if the exchange rate surges higher what will happen. I pity everyone .

Welldone for this write up. It's one of the best sensitisation write up in this medium. Let me made it clear that it's not advisable for the fire truck to be having water in his tank and packed for months. The truck is heavy already, with additional water in his tank, the weight of the truck will cause wear and tear. It's better for the government to provide fire hydrant in every reasonable meter. There was a time the ina market in benin was in fire, the fire truck that came needed to get water after finishing the one they ce wt, they have to go ikpoba river very far that the scene of the fire incidence

If you like give them firefighting helicopters, the Nigerian nonchalant attitude to public service will pervade.

Take a closer look at the Police Force where successive governments keep buying equipment and vehicles every year. Yet they fail to respond in times of emergency with flimpsy excuses.

Interesting how this slimy tribalist decided to pick all the bad examples from the South East while picking all the good examples from Lagos. Very interesting.
I am surprised none of the initial posters commented on this, or were they the deleted posts?

I read this post completely. It's a well detailed write up and research. Whoever wrote this knows in details the fire service job.

I keep telling whoever wants to hear that the development of a country does not just lie in transportation alone. There are many things to be put in place in making a country developed and one of such is a swift response of the fire service department without any issues attached as it relates to necessary equipment and resources.

"All bad examples are from the East, while all good examples are from Lagos".

This is what happens when people cannot read and comprehend simple posts and instead try to force their preconcieved notions on a situation. I guess Abuja and Lagos are in the East as you can see below?

Accessability

This is the responsibility of both government and the masses. There was a fire at the African Independent Television (AIT) in Abuja in the 2000s. The fire service turned out to put out the blaze, but they couldn't gain access to the premises because the gate was too narrow. The fire fighters had to break part of the wall in order to gain access to the premises, yet they are firefighters, not demolition experts.

Similarly, there was a fire in Central Lagos in the 2000s, but fire trucks could not get to the scene of the fire because the streets were too narrow. They had to join lots of hoses together in order to be able to put out the fire.

I guess Lekki is in the East too?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4GbR7Pgf4Q
Motorists and toll gate operators refuse to give way to a fire truck at the Admiralty Toll Plaza in Lekki

I guess Apapa is in the East?

Snorkels are very large vehicles and it's not easy maneuvering them through the traffic of Nigerian cities, yet I heard the head of the Lagos State Fire Service say (on Jimi Disu's show) that the snorkel at Onikan could be moved across the city if needed. Districts like Marina, Ikeja, Apapa and Victoria Island should have a snorkel each.

Ibadan is in the East?
Two years after the fire at Net Building there was also a fire at Cocoa House in Ibadan. Cocoa House was the second tallest building in Nigeria at that time. The fire substantially damaged the building. What happens if there's a fire at Cocoa House again?

Annamco is in Lagos, right?

AloyEmeka5:
Do you know that those Mercedes fire fighters are manufactured in Nigeria by AnnamCo?.

Yenagoa is in Lagos?

A fire hydrant at the recently commissioned headquarters of the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Why is it hard for people to read? Is it laziness, ignorance, illiteracy or all of the above?

We are talking about a very important issue that affects everybody and you want to distract us with nonsense.

Stop being clever by half, why should anyone arrive to a burning building without water to fight the fire?
it does not make sense right, and have u wondered also that they left there station with a water filled tank, but because of bad equipment, before they navigate their way to the place , the water don leak finish for road . You don reason go dere.

See bros Nigeria no dey try.

I can bet with my life some people on this forum are just hearing the hydrant for the first time

I like the "Historical Information" in this Post but the essence of the post itself, is deceptive!

The REASON the Public started attacking firefighters (though l dont support violence in any form) is not just because they come late to burning buildings, THEY COME TO A RAGING FIRE WITH EMPTY TANKS!

What is the MAIN purpose of a Fire Engine.....when it comes with NO WATER, wasting fuel and blaring siren to a big, raging fire?
And to add salt to injury of the Victims, they have the temerity to than go ahead to SURCHARGE them for coming "to have a look"
? shocked angry angry

It is better to not come at all, than to show up with an Empty Tank of water.
Fire-bun-dem Babylonians.
.

To the novices, it may seem that they came with an empty fire appliance, but not at all.
Let me explain to you something sir

The fire service are always being contacted when the issue has gotten out of hand...

And the traffic is another huddle to pass through.. Mind you that we don't have the proper orientation to give way to fire trucks when they are always turning out.

So before the arrival of the fire fighters, the fire has possibly engulfed most part of the building.. And in order to be able to combat the fire, the appliance has to be made to jet water from the it's pump at a maximum pressure. And that directly affects the amount of water being discharged per minute. Note that a 10,000 litres of water can be exhausted in less than 10 minutes under high pressure and most especially when two branches are being used coupled with the ground monitor.

So to a novice, it may seem that the appliance was brought there without water, which is not actually the case sir. The pressure affects the water being discharged sir.

That's why the service needs hydrants to be installed so that water can easily be gotten.... Water is the weapon.
