Iamgrey5:Because Benin were not looking for Lebensraum. Everywhere Benin went to rule, they had no interest in land grab. They didn't even want Benin Language spoken by New subjects. Benin also resisted mass migration of Benin people. Even introducing Iwu or body tattoo to identify Benin people. Abeg stop lying. Ya.riba is far older than recent political issues between Awo and Hausa/Fulani. Perhaps it's your Yoruba writers that know nothing. Public place is awash with how Yoruba came about. 4 Likes |

oneeast3: It was stated earlier that traders and slave traders were the first to come who weren't interested in building anything before the missionaries who came to build missions and schools so as to abolish slave trade. But since you are daft and blind, you wouldn't see it. So, as I said earlier, take your ethnic ass to the back and stop displaying your folly. No one is interested. 4 Likes |

codemaniacs:OK I will wait for others to come and confirm their being part of Oyo empire. Oh boy you sabi lie o. Lai Mohammed Na apprentice for your hand. Chai. Eko is an ancient Benin word for camp. Another word is Ago. Which also gave rise to Ago Enibode or sentry came that is today Aganebode in Edo North. Benin territory names of old are littered with military terms of old. 3 Likes |

AreaFada2:You are a terrible lair. Didn't Bini people kill a Deji of Akure and installed their own stooge until Ibadan chased them out. Even when Oyo rulled over Baribas and Dahomey, Oyo neither forced them to Speak Yoruba nor force leadership on them. Regardless, the facts still remains that Oba of Lagos has no Land or strong claim to any land in Lagos. if he tries any nonsense, he would be detroned in a second. And Finally Yariiba has no meaning in Hausa or Fulani Language. I challenge you to ask any Fulani or Hausa the meaning of Yariiba in their language 5 Likes 1 Share |

Obdk: If is part of our culture to take on names of visitors who lived and did business with us. It's our way of hospitality. There are si many Igbo named communities in our land for example. Also till this day an Ijaw man would not hesitate to name his child after a stanger who lived well with him. We are that open minded. 3 Likes |

Daum:They hardly ever submitted, it was live and let's live arrangements which is very common among Yoruba settlements then. Same thing happened in Port Novo with the Eguns who settled amongst the Yorubas. They still had their own chiefs and they kept their lands. |

Bhukkis: Wrong!!!!! The first Europeans to land in Nigeria were not slave traders. The first Europeans were the Portuguese. They were just Portuguese explorers and traders in the 13th century. Record has it that they landed in Lagos and named the new land after the city of Lagos in Portugal. America was just discovered then and the first slaves in the Western Hemisphere did not land there until 15th century. So where were they taking the slaves if the first slaves in America landed there in the 1600s? |
