Tomorrow I will talking with a potential employer for a full time position as a developer and need to have an idea for how much to ask for when asked how much to be paid.

I have worked with guy the past 2 or 3 months but those were all project based and the guy pays well I think so he is not all these stingy bosses.

Please I need ideas. The job is based in Lagos also.

What happens in a case where the interviewer INSISTS on you saying your price?

Don't look stupid when they ask for a figure price and you keep "asking for the salary that can sustain your level or for something reasonable" as my beloved Special Adviser on interview matters has said.

You will lose the job because they will see you as a confused and indecisive person who doesn't know his onus at that point in time.

I was reacting to where you said he shouldn’t go below, not when you are asked to peach a price, that case you give a big price to show how much you value yourself and worst you earn the best price company has not offer.

It is left to each one his/her personal preferences on what to accept. I just
stated what the Nigerian market offers, generally.
Of course, there will be exceptions such as working with a multinational where entry level can get even 300k
and working with one-man backyard venture, where even a senior level will earn you just 80k, you dig?

OP just tell them you are flexible on salary and looking to add value. They should tell you their range and you can decide to live with it. Nigerians fit price you 30k o

I broke it down for him to understand. You can see a hyphen that follows after the Front and Back end Development. That was a bit expansion for those who might want to check on that.

I'm not yet a software developer dou( I'm training to be one ) but I've been in the tech field( mostly Cisco ) for a very long time. So I know one can't just be done with A 6 months training and start demanding 250K ah ah the kind eye wey Dem go look the person self ehn!!!

Better stop devaluing yourself. So if you finish now, how much would you be asking for? Working in tech is very difficult. Building a program from the ground up and maintaining it isn't easy. Scaling it is another thing entirely. The people in oil and gas who collect big salaries. What do you think they do there? Mark up Excel sheets? I am talking about those in the offices and not those in the fields. Oil and gas certificates are even worse. 3 weeks in and then start collecting millions. Why should it be different in tech. Never be afraid to ask for more money. Na money you dey find no be human being you kill.

I swear you don burst my head!! Your spoke lots of knowledge....But as entry level I think 100 to 180k for the tech startups is normal then for Banks and maybe bigge established Firms/companies it might be 200 to 300K ....I stated thos initial salary because that what some tech companies like Softcom , Paystack etc pay entry level

There's money in tech anywhere in the world but tech companies in Nigeria are not regulated that's why they offer peanuts and there is no agency to report them to.

In America, Canada, Europe... Tech companies pay a lot.

There are mid level developers comfortable earning $10,000 per month a very big money anywhere in the world.
