allthingsgood:You can subscribe for the number of days you can pay for. With the help of prepaid meter, your neighbours can have when you don't have it . Let the light just be available. The fact that I don't have money to eat at home does not mean garri won't be available in the market. On the other hand, right now, we pay electricity bill, buy poles, buy transformers, buy wires, pay NEPA to repair light. But we can't have light . I have not had light since 5 months .  To effectively power a country the size of Nigeria, Nigeria need Nuclear Power plants or Coal power plant Hydro dams and hydrothermal gas plant are simply waste of time Unfortunately United Nations Nuclear Energy Agency won't allow Nigeria build a Nuclear power plant because they know the waste from a Nuclear Fuel is what is used for fussion Nuclear bombs and they can't allow Africans such powerful weapon... This is why the whites apartheid regime of South Africa dismantled it's nuclear plants when handing over to blacks Coal plants on the other hand which still powers world developed countries like China US even South Africa, are now been barred by UN due to its CO2 emmision The Solution in my own opinion is to take the Russian loan deal for them to build and manage Nuclear stations for us, one in Kogi State the other one at Cross River, while we pay them back for 30 years, because the Americans and Westerners would never agree to build such for us, any attempt to build it on our own sanctions would keep flying left and right like it's happening in IRAN Other option is to adopt the Professor Berth Nnaji approach .. by calling in Chinese investors to build coal plants at Enugu and other coal producing states , we sell them Coal they give us power and we pay them for kilowatt they supply to national grid . 14 Likes |

The only problem is the exorbitant hike in electricity tariff fees just introduced. Before now I get about 480 units for a 10,000 naira recharge. After the tariff hike I get just 189 units  |

We can talk about corruption all day, but the real problem is the lack of competition the power distribution get. Capitalism is the only thing that can drive invention in any sector. It is simple. People want to pay for an Uber Ride with the tfare of a danfo bus while enjoying the comfort and AC of the Uber. You might be able to get that workingn with massive subsidies or someone offsetting the costs. Without such subsidies, who services the Uber? Fixes the AC and fuels the car? That nice ride would soon turn to a danfo bus. Electricity is expensive and until the sector is completely liberalised to the point where the coys can get guarantees on their investments and Nigerians willing to pay for such services we won't have stable electricity. meavox:Lies. I read the article. It is a secession propaganda tool. The constitution can be amended or the TCN network upgraded. It is a shame the PDP government had 16 years to upgrade the system but failed, instead anything power was an opportunity to steal, $16bn allegedly squandered. Buhari has started the process of improving the transmission process to 25GW, if PDP did their part, we'll probably be on our way to 100GW or more. Mistakemaker:Nigeria's power issue is multi faceted. Actually we should be generating more than we do now, like about 15000mw from available capacity. But there are three problems. Firstly there are gas shortages due to poor gas network. Then the hydro plants experience low head or something like that. Thirdly, our transmission network needs overhaul. Also gas is still expensive due to high production cost rising from insecurity and lack of indigenous companies, from there consumers don't pay back (owing arrears) so the discos owe the gencos, about 500 billion ngn currently. So the gencos find it more difficult to purchase gas. The first step to sufficient power is to rebuild the the entire gas network, from there we can now have modular plants that will not need a centralized transmission system. But before that, gas production costs in Nigeria need to come down so that investors can be attracted to rebuild our gas network. These are the major issues. 11 Likes |

Mistakemaker: It's obvious providing 24/7 is a no-brainer for Nigeria. We have both the resources and manpower. Unfortunately, there are those profiting so much from electricity not working. There are fuel merchants and generator importers especially the powers that be. Once upon a time, telecomms was as bad as electricity but Obasanjo was able to find a middle ground with the powers that be while also profiting there of. I personally have no issue with they making profit from it, but I believe they simply need the president to also reach a middle ground with them. It's either that or those powers that be must be both exposed and executed as they would never be satisfied and would never let electricity work until some very tough and stringent decisions are made. 5 Likes |

Corruption, mismanagement and lack of foresight. Last month, Nigeria achieved 5,420.30 MW in the national grid, the highest in history Transmission Company of Nigeria was proud of this announcement. This type of records are not the ones you blow with trumpet. National grid has been swinging between 4,000+ MW and below for years. 4,517 megawatts was attained on December 23, 2012. 4,545 megawatts was attained on July 13, 2015. 5 years later, an addition of 1,000 MW approximately is not something to be celebrated. We need a quantum leap in solving the power problems of Nigeria. Egypt added 25,000 megawatts (MW) of new power stations to their national electricity grid during the period from June 2014 to June 2018. Got that? 25,000 MW in just 4 years. In October 2018, project consortium partners Siemens, Elsewedy Electric and Orascom Construction officially unveiled one of the largest combined cycle megaprojects in Beni Suef, Egypt. The teams completed three plants totalling 14,400 MW in a record time of 27.5 months at the cost of €6 billion. One dude foolishly asked if we can afford to pay 24/7 power supply. The problem with power availability in Nigeria today is in the Constitution. Amend the Constitution to allow, states, organisation and even individual to generate and distribute power without the national grid fraud and watch the game change in Nigeria. ZombieTERROR: Most African countries don't have stable power Either they supply a few parts of their countries or they do as Nigeria does..try to please everyone. (Cameroon powers some parts of the country and leaves everywhere dark) Matters are made worse by the fact that we are not ready to pay for electricity ourselves.
