You can go this way for DIY PROJECT

Plaster sand 3trip @7k= 21,000
Sharp sand 1.5trip @14k =21,000
Cement 20bags @2500=50,000
Plank for standing =12,000
Total. N104,000
Keep rest for labour N 46,000

Ground total N150,000

Labour breakdown
A room 2 skill labour @3500 or 3000=6or7k
1 unskilled labour @2000 or 2500=2k or 2.5k

Mean to plaster A room will cost you 8k or 9.5k

Finally means you can only covered 3rooms, A kitchen and 1 lobby with N46,000.

Cement for the calculated area is 20bags

This cost can only work DIY system.

The remaining part like
Toilets
Sittingroom
Dining
The remaining lobby
Walk in closet area.
Ante room.
Can be done later

Forgive my ignorance, what are the difference between plaster sand and sharp sand? I have always believed sharp sand and cement are used for plastering walls.

I guess the sand in the attached pic is called sharp sand.

Bro Rotecch,

With what I attached and at 20mm thickness will those bags of cement still do the job?

Yes it will, but dressing of the windows will not be there and that your master bedroom you will exchange that for any others room size
So with 20bags you are good to go.

But monitor your cement ratio with wastage ooo

@rotecch77.....

Do you still handle plastering and tiling like I saw on one of your posts?
What are the conditions and modus operandi if you have to work in a village in Imo state?

OGA mi I do sir,
Construction with finishings is what we know how to do best coupled with plumbing material supply.

Here are recent tiling/ finishing work

You can check this thread for our finishings work only. Others thread are for construction work.

Actually plaster and looks more smother than sharp sand
It’s also has much gum than sharp sand
But in some area like Benin they used to supply sharp for all work bcs there sharp sand there looks like mixture of plaster sand and sharp sand

DIY Pier/Pillar Cap & Concrete Sphere Update

I did some trials over the week and they were excellent.

Here are the things used for this project:

- Pier/Pillar Cap Mold (newly fabricated)
- Concrete Sphere Mold (newly fabricated)
- Belle 130l electric mixer
- DIY Concrete Vibrator for small forms using my sander machine. This worked excellently.
- Sand
- Cement
- Granite
- Wire gauze to reinforce the form
- 8mm iron rod

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXrt6ffUXRA
Prolonged mixing increases the temperature of concrete so it’s good to pour the concrete as soon as it’s fine.

Note: It’s important to time construction projects right so that temperatures are not too warm when pouring concrete. We poured the second trial late evening and planned to put shade cloth over it during the day to keep it out of direct sunlight.

Pic 1: Concrete Sphere Mold
Pic 2: First pier/pillar cap trial after 12 hours
Pic 3: Concrete Sphere on pedestal

Right now, we are waiting till next Monday to demold the pier cap and the concrete sphere.
___
If this comes out well, next weekend I’ll be working on how to mass produce the project.

If you’re a DIY hobbyist or owner-builder, please consider keeping or having a 110l or 130l electric mixer on your project, it gives you better concrete mix.
I’ve had this one for over 9 years and I’ve never had to repair it. I use it for mortar mix, precast concretes, and other applications during my DIY projects.

So many things are possible as long as you don't know they’re impossible. - Mildred D. Taylor

The result of our second trial is out. We tried striped concrete sphere.

This is a big house o!

Buy 6 plaster sand (30 tonnes).
Buy 30 Bags of Cement
Save the rest for labour

Focus on the internal walls for now.
Do all the rooms first and toilets after the rooms are completed.
Wait oooo me that they ask me to bring 200 bag of cement and 300k for workmanship. For a three-bedroom bungalow with four toilets

Maybe your house is bigger grin and it’s being handled by a big man.

Currently plastering 5 bedroom duplex with 6 toilets, 2 bedroom flat (with 3.3m headroom) with 3 toilets, gatehouse (with 1 toilet) and a fence of 735sqm. We are using 320 bags of cement.

they said they are using sharp sand and not mud because sharp sand will give me better finishing, no algae, no water issues on the wall.

But they said sharp sand need more cement to make it sticky.

Hmm!

That still doesn’t justify 200 bags for 3 bedroom bungalow without decking.

Do the maths bro! That’s like average of 20 bags per room.

3 bedroom
4 toilet
1 living room
1 kitchen
1 ante room

What else?

You can follow this order. You’ll go far but I’m sure 30 bags won’t complete the job.
Your right.
I used 47 bags for a three bedroom bungalow

In my region in Delta State I have only seen sharp sand been used for walls plastering, it's mostly sourced in rivers and sea, while clay are mostly sourced in swamps.
I am a bit confused when I hear plaster sand, the kind of sharp sand found in my region are most mixture of very tiny stonelike and smooth sand like you see in the picture.

Let’s assume @cjfbn compromised on quality grin and you decide to use 3 times the number of cement he used for his project. It’s still not up to 150 bags grin

@180k you’re paying about 18k per room

Check the labour rate rotecch77 posted in earlier post.

Or did they say the labour rate for using sharp sand is more expensive than using plaster sand?

Is there a difference in mixing sharp sand plus plaster sand and mixing stone with plaster sand. If there is no difference then to save cost, someone can use sharp sand in place of stone dust.

For my building, the fellow handling my stuff said I will need 200 bags and 480k workmanship. For Ilorin fa!!!

I now decided this method below for labour cost.

Plastering Pattern
Internal Platering
Day 1 = 2 rooms & toilets
Bricklayers = 5
Labourers = 2

Day 2 = internal lobbies
Bricklayers = 5
Labourers = 2

Day 3 = Master Bedroom & Toilets
Bricklayers = 4
Labourer = 2

Day 4 = Landry, Store & Kitchen
Bricklayers = 4
Labourers = 2

Day 5 = Guest Room, toilet, ante room & toilet
Bricklayers = 4
Labourers = 1

Day 6 = Palour & Dining
Bricklayers = 5
Labourers = 2

Total Cost = 85,000
Bricklayers = 27 @ 2500 = 67,500
Labourers = 11 @ 1500 = 17,500

External Plastering
Day 1 = Left Side
Bricklayers = 6
Labourers = 2

Day 2 = Right Side
Bricklayers = 6
Labourers = 2

Day 3 = Front and Back
Bricklayers = 4
Labourers = 2

Total Cost = 50,000
Bricklayers = 16 @ 2500 = 40,000
Labourers = 6 @ 1500 = 9,000

You’re doing well but try and increase the number of laborers.

Two labourer can only serve maximum of 3 bricklayers.
