There's no need including medicine in your discussion, it's unrelated to the topic.
didn't you see when I apologised for drifting? i rather include medicine in my opinion because kids out here in nairalamd don't know what it is. I am very sure you are a medical student . Some think it is just a seven year course, one year internship and a pay check and i laugh to this. my brother who has been practicing for 7years now wants to leave Nigeria because of poor pay and incessant strikes and dilapidated facilities. If you are a medical student or you know one tell them to gidi up. It is not how it used to be better pray for the grace of God and do not talk foolishly. i just even gave you a hint on how medicine work placement is and you are here saying nonsense. pray for the favour of God all else na FMC kogi you go land and you will understand

Today's medical practitioners only think about the money part of their profession, no more passion for saving lives

Depends on the location. In America depending on the state Pharmacy is way more lucrative than Nursing. Nurses "may" make more money through overtime. But the standing in Pharmacy isn't worth the money after engaging in it for a long period of time.

Nursing is more lucrative and actually more valuable especially if you have plans to migrate (which you should!)

You very correct, I study pharmacy in italy , we dont have b.sc for pharmacy just like medicine , after 5 years of study you get your master degree, this system is called one cycle
KinSlayer:
I’m here to clarify the pharmacy comments. In some countries pharmacy(like medicine) is not offered at B.Sc level. You read a normal course for three years and then master in pharmacy for two( same thing). So if you go to those countries with your B.pharm, it will be treated like a normal B.Sc and you’ll still have to do two years masters. In order to practice. I think if you do pharm D in Nigeria then you’ll be able to practice anywhere with just licensing exam. Quote me for clarification or corrections

As a guy go for nursing, did you know there are specialized nurses that take care of only breasts?

Did I complain to you? I know your type..What will you gain in trying to downgrade medicine the way you're doing now? Every course in Nigeria doesn't guarantee fortunes in anyway and most of us know about this and we still chose that path not because of the money or the job availability but because that's what we've been called to do..The read deal to some of us is about 'Saving lives'..it doesn't matter if it's at FMC Kogi or health center in oba ile...What matters to us is getting to save lives...Not every Doctor wants to be rich or money freak...We chose it because it's the best job in the world. Thank you.

Nursing has too much hype over pharmacy because it is more lucrative, better and more demanding than pharmacy. Nursing has different aspects, pediatric, obgyn, public health, med surg, ophthalmic, blah blah blah. Just find one of these that suits you or interests you and you're good.

I've never been a fan of pharmacy, There are less and less jobs for pharmacists, and the job market for nursing is always good. There are also so many diverse settings a nursing degree can be put to use in like I said already. With a little additional study, you can specialize into areas you are particularly interested in, or even earn Nurse Practioner designation, which anyway means that you can work in a clinic and diagnose and prescribe as a doctor can.

Both are hardly jobless

Under paid sometimes perhaps but never jobless so I find both lucrative especially at BSC MSC level
Re: Pharmacy Vs Nursing: Which Is More Lucrative? by blackengineerr: 9:51am On Sep 07, 2020
In the US, pharmacy (Pharm.D) arguably pays more and offers more flexible working hours. A pharmacist with a doctorate is the benchmark to practice pharmacy and rake in 6-figure salary. Nursing also has huge potential to rake in mad pay depending on the persons ambition in the nursing field especially those with Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees. Let us say, a pharmacist would rake in a 6-figure salary earlier than a nurse but both professions are very lucrative.

In Nigeria, Pharmacy is better and pays better than Nursing. But overseas, Nursing is the bomb.

NURSING ANYTIME. PICK NURSING and you will know the reason later.

Hmmm,op from experience, none ,i repeat none of my friends who did Nursing in Nigeria are unemployed.
I don't know of pharmacy but i know Nursing to be highly employable after graduation, even the ones who attended school of Nursing.
And their pay is lovely,to be on a better side, ask a medical doctor to help tailor your opinion, atleast he won't be biased.

Both of them are good and at the end of the day you are the one that will make that choice.

But permit me to point this one major difference out:

>> Nursing is more clinical and as a result more restricted to the clinical (hospital setting). If you don't get a job as a nurse in a hospital there are very few other places that you can have a rewarding practice.

>>Pharmacy on the other hand is clinical, industrial and business oriented at the same time. You have the option of working in a hospital and you receive higher pay than nurses. You have the option of working in production units of Pharmaceutical industries. You have the option of working as a Medical Representative for Pharmaceutical Industries. You can also work in their regulatory department. You have the option working as a community pharmacist in retail pharmaceutical outfits, or in their wholesaling units. You have the option of working at the NIPRID, NAFDA, ... These are the few that come to mind.

Nice, I am a pharmacist. Nice meeting you.

calebify1:
More than half of those who'll comment here are ignorant about the two professions.

Stick to which you are comfortable with.
Am a pharmacy student and can practice in any country when am through. All it requires is obtaining the said country's license through series of exams.

So Ignore those talking about which is more useful abroad and all.

You just go back, look at the two courses and make a decision. If you don't like chemistry avoid pharmacy.

Nursing gives you more choices and freedom.

You can open a chemist shop and you are more knowledgeable to give injections, do first aid there where's a pharmacist is limited.

Medicine business is lucrative o. Some malaria drugs sell at up to #500 profit per one. Not to talk of other drugs.

An average chemist shop makes #10000 profit daily or more.

#10 000 × 25 = #250 000 monthly - #100 000 on expenses = #150 000.

Don't shout o.
You want those FIRS agents and state tax agents that normally come on Nairaland to spy for which businesses are succeeding to introduce a new tax law that will hang pharmacists throats fa? Abeg remove that calculation na now, Professor Calculator grin. Remove it, me sef I will unquote this later. Government spies full Nairaland

I agree. Pharmacists make six-figures earlier on and in the long run, can make even more. As for Nursing, I would love to see Nigerians break into other fields. Every Nigerian is a Nurse. Everyone and their mama, Uncles and aunties are Nurses. undecided

from what you said i can deduct that you have lied. I doubt you know what you are saying when it comes to the saving life issue. wait let them owe you salary for 5 months your head go correct. that is what you were told in school; SAVE LIFE. ask your lecturers that are in clinical how they treat patients you go understand.

i will advise nursing ahead of pharmacy.......that's for someone with views on which of the two professional courses he/she would like
the advantages I saw being a nurse is the easily accessibility to job procurement almost in all countries
in the light of career growth, they clinical the ladder at a faster growth and I think this is really cool for them
