Odunayaw: Don't take the meaning literally, but take it metaphorically. Quota system is a term that describes anything sub-standard, or anything that is wrong within a system. It does not really mean quota in the army, but low quality things or products or processes. Anything weird lol. |

bidexiii: Actually it's not just a little bit of change in design, it a lot more than cosmetic change. Essentially it replaced the AK47 in most of the Eastern block. The Soviet block had noticed that accuracy of the NATO standard 5.56x45mm had a greater range and far better accuracy than the AK47 some say. The AK74 is chambered with the Soviet block 5.45×39mm round. This results in far less recoil and considerable increase in effective range and accuracy. Put optic sights on it and it's a very good precision assault rifle and with a trained operative using steel sights will give you good accuracy as well. 5 Likes |

INTERNAL SECURITY: CAS HARPS ON ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE AS DEFENCE INTELLIGENCE COLLEGE GRADUATES FIRST SET OF NAF YOC The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has charged newly graduated students of Young Officers’ Course Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 1/2020 (YOC 1/2020) of the Defence Intelligence College (DIC) Karu to bring their newly acquired knowledge and skills to bear in the production of actionable Intelligence that would enhance the operations of the Service in ensuring a secured, united and prosperous Nigeria. The CAS stated this today, 8 September 2020, at the graduation ceremony of YOC 1/2020 at the DIC. Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed that the decision to conduct the course at the DIC was borne out of his desire to produce well-grounded Intelligence Officers capable of supporting the NAF in delivering on its constitutional mandate. Speaking further, the CAS, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the graduation ceremony, stated that to successfully prosecute the ongoing counter insurgency and anti-banditry operations across the Country, Intelligence gathering was critical. Good Intelligence, according to him, is a prerequisite for any successful operation, particularly air operations, whose effect could be devastating, and as such mistakes are unacceptable. “The only way to get good Intelligence is by building robust networks that are predicated on excellence and competence which can only be achieved through good training of Intelligence operatives. It is in this regard that a lot of resources was invested into your training”, he said. While congratulating the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman, and the entire College team for their relentless efforts in bringing the first-ever NAF YOC on intelligence to fruition, the CAS noted that the DIC had become a citadel of Intelligence training and thus reputed for developing qualitative manpower in the field of Intelligence, thereby aiding commanders’ decision-making for effective conduct of operations. He therefore urged the graduating students to bring to bear, the skills and capacity acquired during the Course in their future deployment. “As you leave the training environment, you should be guided by utmost sense of patriotism and avoid acts of misconduct that could tarnish the image and reputation of the Service”, he added. The CAS expressed his gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his support to the NAF. According to him, since the inception of the current Federal Government Administration, the NAF has recorded remarkable achievements in the areas of capacity building and operations. He commended the Commandant, staff and students for ensuring a hitch-free course despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In his welcome remarks, the Commandant, DIC, Commodore Michael Oamen, while thanking the CAS for gracing the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour, stated that the 36 students, who were drawn from various NAF Units, had acquired requisite knowledge and skills that would enable them add significant value to the NAF’s intelligence operations. Highlights of the graduation ceremony, which also had the CDI and Deputy CDI in attendance, were the presentation of certificates to the graduating students as well as the presentation of awards to the students who distinguished themselves on the course. Squadron Leader Martin Egwurube clinched the Commandant’s Award for the Best Research Paper as well as the Best Graduating Student’s Award, while Flying Officers Joseph Agada and Lawal Ismail received awards for emerging second and third in order of Merit. nemesis8u: First of all an ambush does not equate to immediate overriding victory by your enemy. If you are in an area of contention, ambush is not a SUPRISE it's an EXPECTATION. And if you are expectant then you are EQUIPPED, PREPARED to RESPOND OFFENSIVELY and seize the initiative and turn in into a victory. There is a reason you do not see modern day combatants packed in the back of soft skinned pick up trucks. They will be in a series of different types of Armoured vehicles. For instance the USA you will have JLTV, MRAP'S, IFV'S all with considerable offensive capability. When you clear all the surrounding vegetation, trees, shrubs, long grass, etc You can see and be seen too, but it also means you also have nowhere to hide and or take cover, you are exposed. Therer are different types of Ambushes, but going into theoretic description is not that important. But our own NA modus opera operandi. The NA have a great belief in the strength of numbers so go into areas of contention bunched up in 50 + vehicle convoys in broad daylight. They go on designated and well know paths and main roads. This approach does not require complicated intelligence to set up an ambush. In addition the vehicles they have don't give them any real offensive response and or protection. Boko insurgents will have IED's, the obligatory Gun Trucks, RPG7's and the overwhelming number 90% will be carrying AK47's and light machin guns. Most modern armies operations taking place in Sahel savanna. Will have a policy of not driving on the same route twice, most movement will be at night, and thier vehicles will be able to survive IED's, overcome RPG7's, and the HMG fire from the gun trucks. This makes a direct ambush attack to be far from advantageous. For a RPG7 you have an effective range of less than 300 metres and with open terrain no obstructions. Clearing the grass around main roads makes it easier not harder for the enemy. So if you don't go on the routes twice, using multiple routes and alternatives you are elusive to your enemy. These are all terrain vehicles, going off road is normal, not easy but achievable. Then you make it harder for Boko. So now you face an ambush. 90 % of Boko small arms fire ineffective against your armoured vehicle. They might get one vehicle with an IED but they are well spaced. The rpg7's will not get through the cage armour on the armoured vehicles. And the minute you fire an RPG your heat signature is there for all too see, you are gunned down immediately with incendiary fire from cannon on the IFV or HMG on the multiple armoured vehicles you have. You immediately charge through the bushes and long grasses you have elevation and can see them, coordinated ambush contingency plan in place, well rehearsed, nothing is SURPRISING. Any gun trucks you will outflank mash up or toast with the precision weaponry at your disposal. At this stage you don't just REPEL, you pursue, overtake, decimate and ANNIHILATE they will never return. There is a need for retraining for some of our combatants IMO. Look at operation Serval which started before opoperation Barkhan. Since inception in 2013 and to date 45 French soldiers have been killed in 7 years of combat. There have been several ambush attempts but not with any success of note. I can not imagine the casualty figures of the NA over the past 7 years it could be thousands. However, these insurgents will avoid the French and confront Malian, Burkina, Chad and Niger combatants at will and with no fear, WHY. Our procurement priorities are wrong. At this stage of our development absolutely all our gallant combatants should be in armoured fighting vehicles of different types. 10 Likes |

BREAKING NEWS! Wanted Militia Leader Gana Killed, Says Military Earlier today Gana was at Katsina Ala LGA with Tor Sankera other prominent sons and daughters of the Benue State, where he surrendered before their movement to Makurdi and was intercepted by the military in Gboko LGA The Commander of the Four Special Forces command, Doma local government area, Brigadier General Maude Ali Gadzama on Tuesday confirmed to Channels Television via telephone the killing of Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana. Gadzama revealed Gana was killed this evening in a firefight with military personnel. However, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, said soldiers snatched Gana from a government convoy of repentant militants in Gboko. Earlier on Tuesday, Gana, along with 172 militia boys, had reportedly surrendered amid traditional rulers, priests, and local government officials in Katsina-Ala local government in Benue. They were on their way to Makurdi when they were intercepted by military officials, Ortom said. In 2015, Gana was offered an amnesty but returned to his alleged criminal activities. In 2017, the Nigerian police declared Gana wanted after he was alleged to have killed “several innocent persons”. The Benue State Government, at the time, placed a N10 million naira bounty on him. In an exclusive interview with Channels Television in 2016, Gana had denied any involvement in the killing of Mr. Denen Igbana, a security aide to Governor Samuel Ortom. 4 Likes 3 Shares |
