Vapor barriers (abi DPM or Nylon ) are installed to protect what is inside your house from destructive matter that can seep through the foundational floor. If a vapor barrier is not installed, water will seep into the foundation and cause a major damage to wood floors, walls, and paintings in a house. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0S5dfrYmc8 |

n3xt: Never build a raft foundation like the last two pictures below. People fail to realise that the slab in a raft is the main component that transfers the load to the soil below. 6 Likes |

Abolarin91: You see my friend, that type of foundation is called downstand beam-raft foundation but a special kind where the raft is built on stabilized soil. For that reason, the action of the foundation work where the slab must have a direct contact with the sand fill (which must be compacted properly and CBR test carried out to make sure that the bearing capacity of the soil can safely carry the foundation. When the void inside the foundation is left unfilled and decked like he did above, then you are not going to have any action and the foundation will fail by settlement. 10 Likes 1 Share |

abdulwastecx: That’s true. Never build a raft foundation like the number 3 picture above. Number 3 picture is a pile foundation. Honourable, what’s wrong with number 4? Let’s learn. This is one reason I only share projects executed directly by me. 1 Like |

If anyone read my post clearly, you’ll see I wrote “Your foundation design determines which one to go for” There’s never a one-size-fit-all approach to foundation design. Neither is foundation design limited to raft. Peace! n3xt: 1 Like |

Please what can I do to have the arcs missing in the beam on the ground floor put back in there? Also, 11 bags of cement used for plastering two fairly spaced rooms and two rest rooms. Is that usage good enough? Is Dangote Blockmaster cement good for plastering?

sinorte: When we had an almost similar situation, we just simply introduce a new formwork, chiseled the beam a bit to anchor some iron rods to it. Hope this helps! 1 Like

sinorte: 11 bags for two fairly spaced room, not bad if you have good mix and sand. That’s like average of 4 bags per room. But if God bless you, kindly add more bags (maybe 1 or 2 more) of cement. Plastering is a part of your build that requires to be quality upfront. _____ You’re good with any 32.5 Cement. Blockmaster (42.5 R Grade) is not a bad one tho. 1 Like 1 Share |

n3xt: Thank you once again. This is deeply appreciated. --------- Edit: Talking of the mix, the masons did 10 paint buckets of plaster sand plus two buckets of sharp sand to a bag of cement. |

Footstradamus:1. First of all 3 exits to a bungalow is kind of much. 2. The main entrance should lead to the main lobby through the anteroom (there should be a door there, having to go via the anteroom, living room and finning to access the lobby is stressful). The exit at the dinning should be closed, I have never seen a dinning exit. 3. The masters bedroom punch out is unnecessary considering the land space you have plus if it's a necessity, then there should be a window on both sides of the punch out, so you can act as security at night ) 4. On this plan, I prefer the entrance to the laundry be on the exit side and not in the lobby. 5. The kitchen has 5 doors.... 5 doors , 6. The main lobby is crooked, too many cuts and bends 7. I don't like this plan. TO YOUR TWO MAIN QUESTIONS: 1. there will be shortage of space left unless you recalculate on size. 2. This is a big, big plan... You will invest a lot on doors but 15m should pull you through if I'm not micing words 1 Like |

n3xt: I was almost getting lost with all the types of mixes until I saw the one that pertains to me down there. So I'll take it that 2 headpans of sand make 1 paint bucket, and 2 headpans of cement make 1 bag of cement. Whoa! I'm learning. Thank you professeur |
