As pointless as the protests are, arresting them is an infringement on their rights... Subsidy is a dead, retrogressive, and moribund thing that can never be returned. Everyone needs to tighten his belt and get with the program. Where God will punish them all is when they come back in the near future to tell us no real money was realized. |

Like i always said, this present administration has nothing positive to offer. Buhari and his government is a total mess for this country. They keep pushing us to the wall but they never knows where this will result to. |

kikero: The whole system is nkt working - §how many people that looted are in jail. Or they don't have names. If subsidy works in another country - why nkt Nigeria. How do tankers smuggle fuel across the border - are tankers that small and can't be seen. This marriage of convinence where one part brings resources and another part control's it is nkt working.. |

Bennycollins: Ok, time to tell my testimony I first heard about subsidy back in the early 90s when I was a teenager. Back then the sensible media and people said that removing it was bad for Nigeria , and I believed them And kept on believing through the time till 2011 when GEJ came with subsidy removal. Since this was the nth time I was hearing that mantra, I decided to look into how subsides work. And let's be frank, I didn't like the idea What convinced me eventually was 1. When GEJ reduced prices from 140 to 97, landing cost was 99 per liter. That meant that for every liter of fuel government sold, 2 naira then was paid on subsidy. That rose to 50 naira by 2015, not because corruption, but because the landing cost rose too 2. Also, the trial of the subsidy thieves in 2013 led me to the fact that people were lying on the amount of fuel imported so that they could collect cheap money. Then I found out about the smuggling bit.... 3. Finally, I understood finally that subsidy limits profits and so on 4. The ex emir of Kano. Someone in GEJs bad books, yet still backed subsidy removal in 2012 There is a time when APC and PDP have good ideas. And you have to say they are right |

FullBlastLight: Subsidy means that 1. People can buy fuel at 140 here and sell over the border at 377 in Niger,300 in Mali 2. No one wants to build refinery because under subsidy you would be refining your fuel at 165 per liter and selling it at 140 per liter. So no jobs and no investment, because unless you are dangote,no one is going to lend to a business that is operating at a loss 3This year alone we have spent far more on subsidy than on education and health. 4. It is a conduit for looting and stealing. And why out refineries are scrap (see no 2) |

Re: 18 Anti-Fuel Hike, Electricity Tariff Protesters Arrested By Police by Nobody: 2:31pm On Sep 10, 2020 |
iswallker: If you refine fuel at 160 and above and sell it at 87 naira , losing 53 naira per liter sold, would you have the profit to invest in refining? Or sustain it? Or pay for it. That's the main reason. So long as people want to buy fuel below its cost of production, and so long as government pays a subsidy that only covers the difference and doesn't let one make enough profit, that's why we have bad refineries, and people smuggling fuel next door |
