Must it be by a protest that seems easily so quellable particularly by this oppressive administration?

How about thinking out other quiet none violent approach where the lives of the willing aren't put on display for a shooting practice?

Suggest one pls

Did you say this in 2012? Or you just realized lower fuel price is detrimental to the economy?

Okay ,let's make fuel 40 naira per liter, at the expense of our economy...

Yes, they should not have been arrested, but Subsidy is theft by another name....

As pointless as the protests are, arresting them is an infringement on their rights...

Subsidy is a dead, retrogressive, and moribund thing that can never be returned. Everyone needs to tighten his belt and get with the program.

Where God will punish them all is when they come back in the near future to tell us no real money was realized.

Like i always said, this present administration has nothing positive to offer. Buhari and his government is a total mess for this country. They keep pushing us to the wall but they never knows where this will result to.

They should not have been arrested

But the problem is, fue subsidy is why we cant have functining refinereiss and investment in our downstream sector....

GEJ tried to remove it in 2012. Yes, he was corrupt, yes his regme was as bad as bubu, BUT if he had been left to remove it in 2012, we would have been benefiting by now.

SUBSIDES DONT WORK. And in Nigeria's case , it has become a means by which people loot. But because of low fuel price, people prefer it remains. Meanwhile we are spending more on the thing than we are on education, health, etc.

I don't back them protesters. They re part of the reason why we are in this economic mess in the first place, why we have had to borrow because every penny we earn goes on the useless subsidy, why our refineries don't work.

The whole system is nkt working - §how many people that looted are in jail. Or they don't have names. If subsidy works in another country - why nkt Nigeria. How do tankers smuggle fuel across the border - are tankers that small and can't be seen.

This marriage of convinence where one part brings resources and another part control's it is nkt working..

Well , I did back subsidy removal in 2012, and while I was in Lagos briefly that year, I was never near Ojota park.

If you understand how a subsidy works, you would support its removal, whoever espouses it

All d hikes policies hv neva dismally failed 2 get d pple immiserated!

Ok, time to tell my testimony

I first heard about subsidy back in the early 90s when I was a teenager. Back then the sensible media and people said that removing it was bad for Nigeria , and I believed them

And kept on believing through the time till 2011 when GEJ came with subsidy removal.

Since this was the nth time I was hearing that mantra, I decided to look into how subsides work. And let's be frank, I didn't like the idea

What convinced me eventually was

1. When GEJ reduced prices from 140 to 97, landing cost was 99 per liter. That meant that for every liter of fuel government sold, 2 naira then was paid on subsidy. That rose to 50 naira by 2015, not because corruption, but because the landing cost rose too

2. Also, the trial of the subsidy thieves in 2013 led me to the fact that people were lying on the amount of fuel imported so that they could collect cheap money. Then I found out about the smuggling bit....

3. Finally, I understood finally that subsidy limits profits and so on

4. The ex emir of Kano. Someone in GEJs bad books, yet still backed subsidy removal in 2012

There is a time when APC and PDP have good ideas. And you have to say they are right

Subsidy means that

1. People can buy fuel at 140 here and sell over the border at 377 in Niger,300 in Mali

2. No one wants to build refinery because under subsidy you would be refining your fuel at 165 per liter and selling it at 140 per liter. So no jobs and no investment, because unless you are dangote,no one is going to lend to a business that is operating at a loss

3This year alone we have spent far more on subsidy than on education and health.

4. It is a conduit for looting and stealing. And why out refineries are scrap (see no 2)

Use your brain - building and operating refineries is nkt rocket science - there are entities in Nigeria that generate all thier power needs e.g private universities, IITA etc.this arrangement of controlling everything from the center i. E the north will nkt work. Unbundled power assets of this country, let states control thier resources and focus on thier areas of comparative advantage - state A can buy power from state B if it can't generate

But they won't do it - it can't favor the northern oligarchy..

It's a doomed country

So stop spewing trash

undecided undecided

If you refine fuel at 160 and above and sell it at 87 naira , losing 53 naira per liter sold, would you have the profit to invest in refining? Or sustain it? Or pay for it.

That's the main reason. So long as people want to buy fuel below its cost of production, and so long as government pays a subsidy that only covers the difference and doesn't let one make enough profit, that's why we have bad refineries, and people smuggling fuel next door
