Etoro has fees on leveraged positions. There's overnight fee & weekend fee. And the fees payment is structured in a way that you might not know as the fee is deducted daily from your cash balance 7 if you don't have a cash balance you'd see a minus whatever amount displayed there & when you close your position they'd deduct it from the cash balance.

I don't think so. I even added a small speculative position today, Gamestop (GME), as there has been a large uptick in volume accompanied by buying. I think the likes of Apple and Workhorse are also tempting.

You said you added Gamestop on the 8th of September.

Hope you have taken your loss? grin grin

Gamestop is going to $2. And you are entering it at 7 to 8.

S&P500 MOVES SIMILAR TO 2016 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Looking at the S&P500 monthly chart, it is observed that the recent price actions of index is similar to price actions before the last 2 US presidential election. In 2012 made a new high before Nov, 2012 elections, then re-test the support level during the election and later continue to rally up. Similar price actions is seen during 2016 election. Now in 2020, S&P500 has recently created a new high, will the support level 3227 be re-tested & after elections stocks will continue to rally??

PLAN YOUR TRADES AND TRADE YOUR PLANS
grin grin grin grin grin

S&P 500 will need to trade at 1,800.

The ATH reached in January 2020 was when there were lots of companies operational, unemployment very low and little to no bankruptcies.

This ATH reached in early September 2020 was with lots of companies in bankruptcies and more coming, high unemployment numbers. It was just liquidity driven.

The bubble has burst. So sell pressure will be increasing.

I expect Peleton to slide below 37. If you are shorting, then it is good. But if you are long, then you are on a long thing! grin

Nothing will be left standing when there is increased sell pressure. Even safe haven (like Gold and gold equities) will be strongly sold off.

Fed sef go dey confused. Because there will be global selloff and global demand for dollars. Jay Powell go weak. Everything (liquidity) will lock again. Any bank that is gravely exposed to margin lending will collapse especially those in Asia.

As wary as I am about all the gungho investors that we have seen in the last few months, I don't agree with all these excessively pessimistic claims.

As I have argued before, the Federal Reserves' liquidity is driving markets and markets tend to be forward looking, looking at where the economy is headed.

So whilst some investors feel the need to book some of the massive profits made and others are spooked by the upcoming US elections, things are generally looking up. Investors should be wary of being entirely out of the market at this point.

grin grin grin

We will revisit this (part in bold) after the rout.

...I belief that is super-pessimism. The September High was achieved because large number of companies released good results, especially the Tech companies. The current sentiments data is in support of a pullback for US Market. Lot of fear potentially can drag the S&P500 index to re-test March 2020 low (that is will be a worst situation), however, I am expecting a test of 2732 before the index rally again to test September high & from there market will determine the next move...

I'm over pessimistic on US, EU and Asian stocks. I'm over pessimistic on commodities (Gold, silver, oil) and cryptos.

In the near future, we will revisit these.

All these trading faux gurus trying to mock people. Gamestop was a tiny speculative position which I got out of in the same day for a profit. Bought 7.68 and sold for 8.18.

Did the trade more out of boredom and technical analysis than conviction in its fundamentals.

My broker, Finecco, doesn't seem to allow screenshots so I took a picture. Sorry Ovasabi and the anti-screenshot people.

I get it! I suspect you missed the rally in US equities from March.

I am probably known on this thread for being a party pooper, insisting ad nauseam on extra caution but I have also learnt over the years not to fight the Fed. In equity valuations, cost of capital matters and present Fed policies puts a floor on how low market corrections can go. This will eventually change but not yet.

Because we have rallied for months, I had reduced my net long positions before the current correction and presently have 60% of my portfolio in cash. But I am still open to buying quality companies for the long term, bought Lam Research on Friday at 298, and of course the occasional opportunistic small speculative trade that catches my fancy.

Yes, I think the whole US-China tech war could weigh on it whilst Trump is in office so it might go all the way down to 245 as you say. I am looking at 225 (May/June lows) and even the March lows around 180 as support levels.

But with long term holdings, I'm happy to buy at or near the 200 daily simple moving average. It's got great fundamentals so I'm content to hold it at these levels.

Keep your admonitions coming, it supplies the necessary balance.

But did you read the thread from the beginning to see where I stated that the stock market is not a get-rich-quick scheme?
If I manage to research stocks with the scarce time available to me, I dont think I should keep repeating myself as stated on page 1.

This thread is meant to share knowledge and stock tips for investors to enable them take the final decision on what best to do as adults.
There are investment forums and groups all over the world established to help each other develop the investment culture and most of all build wealth.
Should we be different in this part of the world?
I've been away for a while, only to return to see this perfect response. Well-done, boss!

We have to understand that there is no one-way approach to making money in the stock market. I don't know the number of times we need to re-emphasize that everyone should do what works for them!

No one is a financial advisor here. Everyone is totally responsible for his/her portfolio. 90% of investors lose money in the market. Check forums on reddit. People lost money but no one blamed anyone, why do we have to be different.
The amusing thing is that they only show up when the market is down as if stock market investing moves on a straight line. And they become ''excited'' when another ''guru'' supports their claim.

Bro I respect you but no way would the s & p see 1800. That was driven by uncertainty of the coronavirus. The worst don happen, what wants to happen again that we haven’t seen? Unless Trump loses and refuses to step down which causes turmoil. The S & P would slide gradually and be choppy overall and test some key support levels, it already tested 3330 and bounced off it. Let’s see in some months tho, I’m wondering what’s making you think the S & P would test 1800 again. It just seems like a wild claim to me.

At least you know me, I don't make wild claim.

September losses for S&P 500, Dow and NASDAQ will need to accelerate this week till end of the month. Then October will be severe heat. Most supports will be crushed till it trades to that low.

When analysing chaos or disorder (like price movements of any asset over a period of time) , don't just look at one point, look at expanded pictures of the data sets. In looking at the expanded pictures, patterns will emerge and these (patterns) are determinable and measurable. Even the time-function of them can as well be ascertained. This means you can say with reasonable accuracy when the equity rout starts and ends.

Re: Us Stocks Pick Alert by Coolcash1: 4:13pm On Sep 13, 2020
I like the divergent views on market direction from you guys. A good investor or trader does not only incline himself to listening to only good or bullish news but a mix of bad and good news to succeed.

I will not discard RabbidOracle’s post as wild claim as suggested nor also brush aside that of BBM and other members’ bullish about the market as well. This kind of posts should be encouraged on this forum as it will help members to re-evaluate their position, follow and monitor market events keenly and re-strategize.

Considering the projection of most experts about second wave of covid, unending trade war between China and the US, uphill tension around US elections and deferment of economic bail out by House to December, the impact of these variables will definitely be felt by the market.

My advice will be cautious entry for investors but for traders adopt twin approach of long and short strategy depending on the trend to stay profitable.

Happy investing.

We have to understand that there is no one-way approach to making money in the stock market. I don't know the number of times we need to re-emphasize that everyone should do what works for them!

It's obvious from your posts that you have 2 severe shortcomings: investing experience and comprehension ability.

You haven't been in the market long enough to realise how difficult stock picking is and to acquaint yourself with the fact that passive investing, what you call an extremely conservative approach, is to the contrary, a very common and popular approach.

My stating that investing in indexes has been proven to be a better way to invest for retail investors isn't simply a stylistic preference. It's similar to saying that driving without seat belt (stock picking) increases the chances of harm than with seat belt (index investing).

For me, I've got a relatively small amount of my investing capital (about 10%) in stock investments mainly for the fun of it and to potentially benefit from that minuscule possibility that I might hit pay dirt.

So I always insist at every opportunity that people shouldn't hang too much hope that they will enjoy fantastic success in stock investments in the long run. Do it as a diversification/fun play with money that won't affect the quality of your life if lost. 2 of the most successful investors ever - Warren Buffett and George Soros - only made 20% per annum returns over 40 years. The chances that anyone here will come close to that is very slim. Not one person on here who has a contrary view to me on this has a long-term track record of success in picking stocks. You can't say something works when none of you have done it for long! It's all people who started dabbling in the markets in the last few months or years and believe I am preaching against their destiny to become rich.

Basing decisions on actual evidence is what we as Nigerians should inculcate. This is the building block of progress and how knowledge and life improves.
