Fuel Subsidy: FG Set To Distribute 2,000 Buses To Crushing Effect On Transport by Ababbio: 7:49pm On Sep 11, 2020
The federal in other to crushing the effect of transportation on the public particularly the rural dwellers, due to hike in fuel price, has said, it would distribute 2, 000 buses.

This was made known by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Dr.George Akume, in an interactive section with relevance stakeholders of cooperative societies in Nigeria, on Friday, at his office in Abuja.

He said the initiative in a collaborative effort of his Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other agencies in the government.

Akume, further explained that, the ministry had to tske the decision to pass through cooperative entities to ensure the materialisation of the project, instead of issuing loans to individuals which might delay prompt execution of the project.

“Basically we do recognise the fact that when you give out loans to individuals, sometimes you have the difficulty of recovery when cooperative is involved,  it becomes easier to manage the facility

“The whole essence of the initiative is to ensure that our rural force has access to a transportation facility, now that there is a slight adjustment of the price of fuel.

“We do recognise that some transport businessmen can decide to take advantage of fuel increase over Nigerians.

“So when this is implemented, we believe the initiative will do quite a lot to stabilise the prices for the benefits of the people", he said.

He noted that, there is no way Nigeria as a country can be promoted without transportation, saying that his the reason president Muhammadu Buhari has been working very hard in the aspect of road, rail and air transportation.

Also, Mr Olakunde Jeff, Project Coordinator, Cooperative Asset Scheme, said the federal government had given the buses to cooperative societies at a very good price for onward distribution to interested members of the society.

“The essence of everything is that now that we have a new pump price, we want to ensure that the effect on the masses is on a minimal level and that is the essence of the first 2, 000 buses.

The initiative, according to Jeff would also mitigate the effect of challenges of transportation faced by rural farmers, even as he assured that they would receive greater attention to the programme.

He added that members of the public would also benefit from the project.

Like in the case of a van, farmers who are under the cooperative movement will be given the van to convey their farm produce from the farm to the road and they are expected to pay back.

“There will be allocation of buses to other cooperative groups to run transportation businesses, “ he said.

NAN reports that President Muhammadu Buhari on Sept.7, said the payments for petrol subsidies which accrues to a trillion Naira annually, have become unsustainable.

This should pass as the dumbest of fed govt action in a very long time. Nigerians are crying over fuel price increase, these ones are talking about distribution of buses, huh?

So will the buses move without fuel? Will the transport fare not be based on the fuel prices? Are Nigerians complaining about shortage of vehicles? Will the buses also address other uses of fuel like generators in this era of almost zero power supply from phcn?

I don't understand how a patient will be complaining of stomach-ache and the doctor will be planning to treat skin rashes.

cheesy grin grin grin so about 55 buses per state will cushion the slight adjustment of the price of fuel

How

The Federal government will sell fuel to them at a lower rate

Federal government will maintain the vehicle for them

The driver's will not pay levies cheesy grin grin grin

This project is designed to fail from the beginning, not hating just stating facts

Those into transportation can explain better

Will the buses be operating freely or how will the provision of additional buses solve the effects of next level hardship imposed on Nigerians by this insensitive government.

mass transit buses will lessen the effect of petrol price increase on POOR MASSES......they will be cheaper with only marginal increase from the current rates, hence POOR MASSES will not feel the effects much.....the fuel subsidy ONLY FAVOURS THE RICH / AVERAGE Folks who could afford a car and fuel it......if you could afford to fuel a car, go for it , if not go with public transport which is cheaper anyway......

Bro , even organised Labour supports mass transport schemes like this
