ojeysky: lolz. in terms of space and weight, lithium rules obviously. but those were the least of my worries when i was considering biting the offer. for a cost to amp/hour ratio, it was a no-brainer for me because clearly the price was better than anything on the market at the time. specs says design life is for between 15 to 18yrs. i guess time will tell but if my zeniths could last me almost 8yrs, i expect these to exceed that feat. 1 Like 1 Share

mcTrinity: tanx my brother. i believe no one battery chemistry is better than the other. it all depends on application and how much you're ready to pay for quality. 5 Likes |

GeorgeD1: Congrats Georged1. Super massive bank. Surely an 8 digit something. These are still lead acid batts, of the gel kind, not lifepo4.. Too bad 12v systems are usually puny and clumsy 6 x 2v x 2000ah would sure make a bank, to be envied by lifepo4 as c/10 wud still be a whooping 200amps 1 Like |

queenfav: You can just switch off the NEPA socket where your inverter is plugged to for charging. This is another advantage of some of the top hybrid inverters we discuss about here. They are programmable to juggle power use between grid and solar. Some can even share the use of NEPA and solar in percentages at the same time; like PHCN/Solar in 80/20 during the day and 20/80 at night. DrSolar on you tube uses a hybrid that does that (I can't recall his Nairaland username now) but he also a member on this thread. @ NiyiOmolyunade also does something like that. Edited: I think the username is Chris or something. |

GeorgeD1: I believe your long courtship with the Zenith lead batteries boils down to usage. When I was "lead acid", the low discharge cut off for the batteries were 12.1v, but I wasn't impressed with the two years plus I got before I felt they needed replacement, although I admit they were not "high premium" brands. An AC gate opener (idle consumption of 3 watts+6 watts idle of the 300 watts inverter) I used always ran down the two pieces 12v 12ah batteries by morning if the sun does not come up as early as 8am and within 6 months the batteries usually needed to be replaced. The solution then was to switch off the inverter at night and back on in the morning, which is not always done since I'm away for weeks at a time. But ever since I changed to a DC gate opener on two pieces 12v 7ah batteries 10 months ago, the headache is no more. Your 12 pieces 260ah lead acid battery bank is massive, so I won't argue if you say you don't go below 12.5v DoD in most cases within the 8 year period. This undoubtedly will earn you more years of beauty from the battery. The popular consensus here is that lead does not forgive too much and too frequent high DoD at all, but lithium gives you more at higher and more frequent DoD. One of my lithium pack has rarely gone below 13.0v by morning in the last 4 months even though the LVD is set at 12.3v. If it continues like that, I see myself getting 12 years use out of it. BetaTechnicians: GeorgeD1: Sonnes what?... Sounds like something out of Hitler's Germany I almost bit my tongue pronouncing that. Woah, massive beasts by the way; literarily, "I kill drum for you" (I doff my hat for you). Abeg which of your kidneys did it cost you? Just wondering ni o With this renewed acquisition and rekindled romance, I don't see Mr GeorgeD1 courting lithium for probably the next 15 years, a time majority of us here as AE enthusiasts might already be using lithium-powered electric cars. The only reason he might be forced to use lithium at that time will be in his own electric car. Lolz. 2 Likes |

ojeysky:Lolz @multiple organs..The thing is this, once you have tasted solar. You just can't go back, rather you will even want to upgrade. If we knew how good it is ,we would have went all out to install a bigger set up.I hear generator noise and i get irritated so much.I wonder how i coped all these years.Solar is the way to go,it has really given mw comfort. I watch tv without fear of PHCN taking light and making me miss out on the movie. My baby has never seen darkness since she was born nor has she slept without Fan or AC.Or is it how it helps me plan my grocery shopping?I shop once a month and freeze most items.Same as cooking,i can make 5 soups and freeze without fear.Everything stays fresh because my fridge is always on 24/7 thanks to solar.Abeg, anyone who can even afford to invest 2m-10m on a set up should not hesitate, its worth it!I pray for my husband daily because it has really made life really easy and comfortable for me. 11 Likes |
