Advice: What Is The Best Budget Laptop For Programming? by OluwabuqqyYOLO(m): 7:07pm On Sep 12, 2020 |
Hello, good evening, everyone. I want to buy a laptop primarily for programming. And, of course, it will have other uses, but I am specifically buying in order to learn programming. The most I can afford is N100, 000, and I have tried to use Google but the least amount I've seen is $500+, which is far above my budget. So, please, I'm seeking for advice: what laptop do you advise that I go for, given my budget and intended purpose of purchase? Thank you. |

I did a research on this a while back and discovered you really can't go cheap if you actually want a programming laptop cos there are 3 very important parts to consider if you don't want a slow device... 1. RAM: you can't afford to use a laptop with less than 8GB RAM because some programming softwares require a huge RAM. 2. SSD vs HDD: SSD is preferable as internal storage compared to the slower HDD as it has moving parts and data retrieval is significantly slower. 3. CPU & GPU: the processor and graphics card play a huge role in your computer's speed as well. When you see a laptop that combines all these 3 features, it won't fall lower than $500, definitely higher, ideally $800 and above... The best option for you is to get a good second hand laptop preferably with SSD and upgrade the RAM to 16GB cos it's cheaper that way. The RAM you can get on AliExpress and fix yourself. Also, get a good battery that can last you at least 6 hrs without charge so you can work on the go if you have to. Regardless of the size of the storage, you can always get an external hard drive, but using HDD is a big issue when you start running powerful coding apps. Good luck bro. 5 Likes |

What loneprof said is true If you will just be doing basic HTML,CSS and JavaScript, you are good to go with lesser laptops. But to run more RAM and processor demanding softwares on your laptop to do heavy tasks like Data analysis,JAVA(for complex softwares),Ruby,...and so on You won't want to go for less than 8gb ram... Except you want to be caught in screen watching sessions that can last more than 4hours... Try as much as possible to get very powerful spec laptops to avoid future lamentations |

Just buy the one you can afford but keep off Game play programming, 3d modelling and all those AI and data science stuff. 2 Likes |

@loneprof, thank you very much for your input. I will just have to start with something lesser. @sirmwill, do you think the basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript will make me money to buy something better? @Segfault,can you please make a specific recommendation? @Timewaster, sorry but are you serious about that? What phone do you suggest? |

OluwabuqqyYOLO: U can't make any money from html JavaScript and CSS for your first 6 months. Even if you swallow 1 million programming PDFs with cold beer |

Timewaster:I'm not exactly going into programming as a main hustle. I have a source of income, but I thought it'd be better to acquire the skills ahead because you know what they say. Thank you. |

OluwabuqqyYOLO: Don't mind the e-diot. He doesn't have anything positive to contribute, only discouragement. You can make money even within 3 months if you're smart. People without coding skills are eating web design money up and down using site builders. It's not by being perfect, it's about your business IQ... 1 Like |

OluwabuqqyYOLO:A hp notebook with an Intel core i7 4th generation, 8gb RAM, 500gb hard drive will do if it is second hand oh, because these laptops are costly if you want to get them new, else if you want to go for a new one just settle for a notebook with core i5 4th generation, 4gb RAM and 500gb hard drive, though you'll have to settle for web design and basic system programming, I would have told you to get a Linux but you aren't a hacker or a systems programmer therefore settle for windows. |

Timewaster: A lady I met on Twitter got hired at Facebook after two months of learning and building using ReactJS. If she could do it, anybody can too. It just takes the proper motivation and passion. I believe you don't know anything about web design and you're probably one of the failures of web development tutorials. 1 Like |
