HOW BARCELONA IS CHANGING NIGERIAN FOOTBALL

The barcelona Academy in Lagos, Nigeria will produce world beaters in the next five years.
They are DEAD SERIOUS ABOUT IT.
Here is a 2018 interview with the founder. Some of the kids are allready going for tournaments abroad.

https://punchng.com/barca-has-right-of-first-refusal-over-bescola-players-oghomienor/

Excerpts from the interview

Recently, you took 60 Nigerian kids to Barcelona. What was the reason for the trip?

It’s part of our objectives in SUD Bescola, to develop young children; it’s about our youth development programme and grassroots empowerment. We’ve picked children from different less-privilege areas; we went on a road show and trials to places like Okokomaiko, Ajegunle. We did a selection process and we picked some of these children and we brought them to the school. Part of the development besides them (kids) playing friendly matches and trainings in the school is to attend games abroad so that it can help them develop more as professional footballers in the nearest future

This is what is said about African players in the interview
First of all, our players have something that is unique as Africans. We have the physique, we are athletic. Barcelona’s players are not so athletic. If you look at Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi and Andre Iniesta, they are not very strong. Barcelona believe that if they combine our athleticism and their style of play, then they are turbo-charged. The reason why they play their style is because most of the children they have from there are not as physically strong, so they adopted a play. It gives them more options when they have African players that can play a different style like the 4-4-2 or a counter attack. Barcelona don’t play counter attack, they still play much of the ball at the back. And if you look at other clubs like Real Madrid, they have stronger players that can run very fast. Barcelona don’t do that.

Time will tell on Iwobi. Haven't heard anything about him leaving yet. The window is still open till October 9 or so I think so we will know for sure what his situation at Everton is going forward.

Guess its all going to be about James now. If he moves, it better be a top 10team. Else.....

Bodo/Glimt.. almost always scoring 6. Great team in the Norwegian league this season.

A newly promoted club leading the table by beating other teams effortlessly and scoring with so much ease. Displacing the league giants like Rosenborg, Molde and Odd BK. So Amazing

English Premier League club Chelsea have acknowledged that gifted Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe was the standout performer among the loanees in the past one week and it was an easy decision.

The former England U18 international, who is spending the whole of this season on loan at Accrington Stanley, netted a hat-trick on his professional debut in an EFL Trophy clash against Leeds United U21s on September 8 and things got better for him four days later as he opened his account in his first game in the League One.

Uwakwe's feat is remarkable considering the fact that his last competitive game was more than six months ago, on March 2, and featured in only one friendly for Chelsea's development squad before heading out on loan to Accrington Stanley.

In their latest review of the players out on loan, Chelsea's official website wrote on Uwakwe : "The headline performer in the past seven days has undoubtedly been Tariq Uwakwe.

"The Academy midfielder marked his Accrington Stanley debut with a hat-trick against Leeds Under-23s in the midweek EFL Trophy action, that game ending 7-0, and backed it up with a superb curling effort against Peterborough on his first senior league appearance.

"His strike from outside the box sealed an impressive 2-0 victory for Stanley against a hotly-tipped Posh outfit."

Meanwhile, another player of Nigerian descent loaned out by Chelsea in Ike Ugbo made his third consecutive start for Cercle Brugge in a 2-0 loss to RSC Anderlecht in a Belgian First Division A match on Sunday.

Umar Sadiq scored today also. Scored the third goal in Partizan's 3-0 win.

He now has 5 goals and 2 assists in 7 league games so far. They sit third currently on the table.
That guy has really become a jewel at partizan.

Hmmm... sofri sofri chief!
The Iwobi we knew at Arsenal is not the same Iwobi at Everton. We all witnessed the fact that he was given loads of starts and he wasnt so impressive and quite frankly the manager has been fair in his faith in Iwobi. There is no time to be developing a player when there is much more to achieve. It is strictly Iwobi's responsibility to develop himself. If it takes extra hours of practice, less partying and more work on his passing accuracy and decision making... then thats what he outta do!

The fella that tweeted the stuff was just being sentimental (as a Nigerian of course) and I get it.

Take for instance, an area I see iwobi weak at is in his shooting. He shoots mostly with his side of the foot which ends up being tame (lacking venom). Almost like a pass. Whereas, it could be a lot more desireable if he learns to shoot in-step. And frankly when he gets into the goal area, these come in to play in his overall contribution to the team.

I hope he takes his chance when the time comes again.
We all saw what James Rodriguez brought in. His composure and tidiness. He didnt do too much with the ball and was highly effective. Thats all we ask.
