Is Polygamy Really A Sin? by ranson(m): 11:12am On Sep 13, 2020 |
I found this piece on WhatsApp and i think I should share it here as it has always been one of the questions on my mind. Read on: Is Polygamy Really a Sin? I want to shake tables today!! Please do not crucify me for this, not because I want to marry a second wife but rather, I found this a thought provoking write up on a Christian platform, and it is worth discussing on other platforms, and amongst Christians *POLYGAMY! POLYGAMY!! POLYGAMY!!!* You will all agree with me that one of the most controversial words in Christiandom today is *POLYGAMY* Are you a religious scholar? a Pastor? a Theologian? or a Born-again Christian?.......? Please, feel free to constructively contribute, castigate, correct, admonish, advice or preach........in accordance with the provisions of the Holy Bible (the Word of God) Before I go further, I will like you to have the following questions at the back of your minds. 1). Who was the first person to engage in the act of POLYGAMY? 2). Is POLYGAMY a sin? 3). Did God condemn POLYGAMY? 4). Those that engaged in POLYGAMY, are they in Hell? 5). What is the fate of the polygamous Children? 6). Is marriage a traditional act or religious act? 7). Why do Christians condemn POLYGAMY? . What are the effects of POLYGAMY in Christiandom? 9). Has God changed? *GEAR 1* Lamech was the first man to marry more than one wife, Gen 4:19 *GEAR 2* Godly/Holy persons that engaged in POLYGAMY according to the Bible include: *Abdon*, Judges 12:13-14; *Abijah*, 2 Chronicles 13-21; *Abraham*, Gen 16-1-3, Gen 25:1; *Ahab*, 1 kings 20:1-3; *Ahaseurus*, Esther 1:9, *Ashur*, 1 Chronicles 4:5, *Belshazzar,* Daniel 5:2, *Ben-Hadad* (who married Ahab's wives), *Caleb,* 1 Chronicles 2:18-19, *David* (had 8wives), 1 Samuel 18:27, 25:39, 25:42, 2 Samuel 3:5, 5:13, 12:7-8, 12:24. *Eliphaz*, Gen 36:11-12. *Elkanah*, 1 Samuel 1:1-2 *Esau*, Gen 26:34 Ezra, 4:17-18; *Gideon*, Judges 8:30....and many more. We have no fewer than 40 Godly and ungodly men that engaged in POLYGAMY according to the Bible. Also, we have no less than 43 POLYGAMY cases in the Holy Bible. *GEAR 3* Has God condemned POLYGAMY? *No! God NEVER did* In all the POLYGAMY cases mentioned in the Bible, God did not condemn any except David who snatched Uriah's wife. God said to David in 2nd Samuel 12:8; *I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more."* Why did God himself say so to David? *GEAR 4* Is POLYGAMY a sin? Those that engaged in POLYGAMY are they in hell? Is Abraham in hell? (Luke 16:19-31) Is Jacob in hell? Are David, Solomon, Elkanah, Ezra.....@all, in hell? *GEAR 5* Does God permit POLYGAMY? *The answer of course is YES!* In Exodus 21:10, God said *If he (man) marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights*. In 2nd Samuel 12:8. God Himself said to David ,"...I gave you your master's house and his wives,........if you needed more, I would have given you even more" *GEAR 6* What is the fate of the polygamous children? Condemned or Favoured? Why was Joseph, Samuel, Solomon.... Highly favoured? *GEAR 7*. Before religion there was marriage. Gen 1:26-28, Gen 2:18-25 The issue of Monogamy was purely *the tradition of the Western world who were our religious colonial masters. In the land of the White, traditionally, rivalry is a taboo*. But the Jews (Israelites) and the Edomites (the Blacks) share the same or similar traditions. A widow was not allowed to be seen on the street, but be re-married to their husband's relatives or friends, Gen 38. *GEAR 8* Why do Christians condemn POLYGAMY? The new testament completely responds seamlessly on POLYGAMY matters. The new testament talks about every aspect of Christian living except POLYGAMY. Mathew 19:3-9, Jesus spoke about God’s initial plan for man. He condemned divorce but did not condemn POLYGAMY. Paul’s admonishment to Timothy on how to elect Church leadership, just like the case of the Levites of old (Moses...), 1 Timothy 3. The point of contention here is, *IF* there were no men with more than one wife in the Church, Paul wouldn't have mentioned it. Also in 1 Corinthians 7:39. *GEAR 9* Effects of POLYGAMY: POLYGAMY has it merits and demerits in the society and Christiandom at large. 1). In the Society, the Maternal Mortality rate is higher in the female folks compared to men. The number of girls birth rate is higher than that of men, and the number of men death rate is higher than that of women. The number of widows keep increasing geometrically adding up the number of single women in the society. This leads to increase of infidelity, adultery, and formication in the society compared to the days of our forefathers. So pathetic nowadays to see our single girls fighting with widows for the ownership of a guy. 2). Religiously, the so-called MONOGAMY has caused more harm than good in Christian-dom. God says in Gen 1:28 'God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground'. But what do we have today? Christians going into family planning. The Israelites lived 430yrs only in Egypt, but Pharaoh became scared because of their rapid growth in population. I can't imagine if they were practicing family planning and monogamy. *NIGERIA* IBB introduced family planning in Nigeria with a maximum of 3 children to a couple and, was widely embraced mostly by Christians. That is 3 children to a couple. b.) Very soon Our children, particularly daughters (that we are trying to protect today) will be used as sex slaves because monogamy will deny them an opportunity to marry. C.) There are millions of stranded women in the South and, may not likely get husbands forever, because of the arguments against polygamy. Whereas hardly can a woman be stranded in the North. Thanks to the practice of polygamy there. GEAR 10 Has God Changed? God of Adam, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, .....the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega, He is the same yesterday, today and forever...has not changed. CONCLUSION What is the way out? Christians don't be "Paul when he was Saul" Pastors, be careful what you preach on pulpits about POLYGAMY. Instead of becoming light, rather, it is destroying Christianity Hosea 4:6, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. "Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the laws of your God, I also will ignore your children. *HE WHO HAS EARS TO HEAR, LET HIM HEAR* Forwarded as received, *I need not be crucified as a religious bigot*. |

It is a sin against Christianity and Preachers. Not against YAHUAH. It's a sin against white man who is afraid of Israelite (negro) population growth. BTW, I'm not polygamous, neither do I plan to be. |

A preacher passed by my streets today , and his exact words were " some people say we shouldn't read the old testament , forgetting that everything inside the bible is good and written for us to abide by, Even Jesus said I've not come to abolish the old but to fulfil it . going by this statement , if polygamy is inside the bible and people practised it , and God loved them , you have to practice it cos everything inside the bible is good , and God can never make mistakes or go back on his words ! |

The preachers will give you the answer from the Biblical perspective. IMO, I don't support polygamy or polyandry. I mean, how can I be comfortable that my husband's love for me is divided amongst different women? I rather stay single jare. Anyway, I don't know how Muslim women cope shaa but dem dey try. |

Jesus reply Matthew 19:4-6. Supported by Apostle Paul, 1Corinthians7:1-2. Hebrew 13:4. Anything outside monogamy is a sin. Argue with Jesus Christ and his apostle. |

Before the new covenant was established {Jeremiah 31:31-34} polygamy was tolerated for a reason :- If Moses insisted on one woman for a man unless one of them is dead, a man could just take his wife out and kill her in order to marry another! Matthew 19:8 Women can do the same but because after marriage women becomes secondhand, so most women often concor to the standard. One thing most people don't remember is that God only used two persons as mediators between himself and his worshipers:- Moses was the first mediator God used to set up standard for the Israelites, regarding marriage Moses asked the men to give their wife a certificate of divorce if something indecent is found in her but Moses himself married just one woman! Jesus is the mediator between Obedient mankind and God, whoever wants to get into life everlasting must comply with all what Jesus taught through his thoughts, words and actions! John 3:16 Of course Jesus never got married but he said permission to divorce was due to the stiff-neckedness of the Israelites, that wasn't how God initiated marriage in the beginning Matthew 19:8 So according to Jesus, Paradise is only for men each having one wife like Adam {Genesis 2:21-24} not those having multiple partners! 1 Like |

Janosky: None of those scriptures said anything against Polygamy. It's not like I expect Christians to stick to the scriptures instead of traditions handed down to them by colonialists. |

kingxsamz: Have sense, actions take on different meanings and contexts when done to different people, by different people, and at different times. i know that will fly over your atheistic head, so let me simplify. 1. You kill a cow. It's a party if the cow is yours. It might be prison or death if it's not yours. It may be something else if it was an accident. 2. You kill someone. Same action. It might be a legal sentence if you are licensed to do so. It may be manslaughter if you know the meaning. It may be murder. It may be homicide. It might even be a political sabotage. 3. You had an orgasm. Same orgasm. It might be okay if you had it with your legal spouse. It might be infidelity. It might be homosexuality. It might be child molestation. It might be rape. It might be bestiality. It might be anything and many things. To you it is the same action. But it carries many names depending on who you are doing it to and when. Let's see if satan has not totally blocked your head. |

Image123: Ah, Yes, the context. It's always about the context not the action. The reason behind genocide and slaughtering of children must really be a good one. Jehovah is good. |

If you were in polygamy after you knew christ,,, then there is no problem but after knowing him lies the problem.... It's not the polygamy that will send you to hell but the frictions... |
Re: Is Polygamy Really A Sin? by donnie(m): 7:43am On Sep 14, 2020 |
sammysmiles: The recent killings we've been hearing... are they from polygamous unions. I live in an area where you will see a man with 3 or 4 wives and they all cooperate and live happily. And the man is at peace. If it is according to Nollywood or Christianity, then okay, you might be right. |

ranson: TRUTH. Many of the remaining women turn to prostitution to survive both in church and in brothels. This is what happens when our people don't realize that they are the people of the book, the children of the prophets. We are Israelites but unfortunately, we're held captive by religion. |
Re: Is Polygamy Really A Sin? by BlueAngel444: 10:38am On Sep 14, 2020 |
Janosky:donnie doesn't need to argue with Jesus the first verse you mentioned matt 19:4-6 Jesus was answering the question of DIVORCE and not the number of times a man can be joined to a woman. Jesus stated the clarity of a union. second verse 1 Corinthians 7:1-2 speaks about sexual relationship between a man and a woman. While Hebrews 13:4 man should sleep with the woman he married, if he wants another or sleep with a woman he should marry her. 1 Like |

BlueAngel444: Just ask for what you don't understand and you will be supplied with the answers! Matthew 7:7 Of course all humans are lying down in their respective graves (hell) until the day of resurrection. All the women those you mentioned married will no longer be their wives, death has dissolved their marriages. Revelations 20:11-12 So after resurrection they will have to learn how to live in Paradise through the teachings of the man who has the key to Paradise {Revelations 20:13} whoever choose to rebel against Jesus' teachings by then will be thrown into the Lake of Fire, this means they will have to die a Second time but this time their will be no more resurrection for them! Revelations 20:14-15 God bless you! |

BlueAngel444: THANK YOU. Let them show in any of those verses where he put the limit or where he expressly condemned those with multiple wives. Such exists only in the minds of the fake white Jesus followers... not in the bible. MESSIAH knows better than to question the choice of His ancestor Jacob (Israel) who married 4 wives, from where the nation of Israel emerged. |
Re: Is Polygamy Really A Sin? by Nobody: 11:52am On Sep 14, 2020 |
Polygamy is not a sin even in the bible there is no verse that disapproves polygamy. Polygamy is awestern idea to control population and birth rate. |
