Still about passport renewal at the Nigerian High Commission London. I applied for passport renewal on the 24th of August. On one hand, information on the website says backlog of applications fron March to August will be dealt with. While on the other hand, renewal will be strictly on appointment.

Since my application (and payment), I have not gotten any appointment date via text or email as promised on the website and I am thinking on going to London next week since covid cases have started to increase and want to avoid any possible lockdown situation.

Please, I want to know if anyone is in the same predicament or have recently collected a new passport.

They will not allow you entry into the high commission so do not go unless you receive email for appointment or you know somebody.

Boss yu funny oooo. Even on a normal day without covid 19, it takes over a month after application to have Biometric/Interview appointment. Just calm down, they will email you your Biometric date. After your Biometric, the passport collection is less than 2weeks. They will send it to your house address. But now that 9ja fuel price increase, 9ja embassy can do&undo on collection date of your passport.

August 24 is literally yesterday in naija embassy world. They were shut for months so you can imagine the backlog

They are now strict on entry without appointment so you just gat to be patience. They eventually get you a date for biometric but be ready for months

Speaking about naija passport renewal, when would be best time for me to consider renewing my passport as it would expire in April '21 and I need to renew my visa also in June '21.
Need to plan it properly so that I don't begin to panic with all these stories of passport renewal backlog.

I didn’t say it very well, but I hope you understand that people should stop letting age hold them back.

Regardless of what I said above, she doesn’t need to study nursing if she wants to go into the health sector. Nothing wrong with her being a carer.

Personally, I’ll advice that she goes into project management, recruitment or customer service. She can decide to still be a secretary or office assistant. her transferable skills from her previous experience is better suited to these fields. All she has to do is look for jobs on indeed that suit her, and apply.

You even still have hope on the embassy? I’ve given up on waiting for them to invite me for my biometrics. I’ll travel with my expired passport to renew in Nigeria. I applied Aug 4th and haven’t heard from them, if you have no immediate use for a renewed passport, just be patient.

I renewed my passport last month without appointment and got it same day.

If its so urgent, kindly go back and ask the guy at the gate for their oga.Tell him you want the fast track service.

You will be required to go to the post office to buy a stamp duty of 115£.

your passport will be issued in few hours.

The normal process take a very long time as there is a lot of queue and they are still dealing with the people whose appointment were cancelled or rescheduled due to covid19

Can someone travel with an expired passport? You will need an emergency travel certificate to travel with an expired passport and you will need to get that at the Embassy. Correct me if in wrong.

If you are a dual citizen and for example your british passport is valid and nigeria is expired you can travel legally ....but in naija they can harass you so you have to quote the law to them

But if you have only one passport that has expired... you wont even be allowed to check in at the airport. You cannot travel on an expired passport with one passport. you definitely need an ETC.

I learnt this last week when the airline refused to fly MIL due to expired passport. Even excuse of covid it wasnt allowed

I've followed this thread from the beginning and I was earnestly hoping that someday I too will be able to share my experience of living in the UK.
And finally I got the break I was hoping for, got to UK late last year on a tier 2 visa.

I'm in Salisbury  ( Wiltshire ), it's a small but lovely town, there are few blacks here from different African countries cos by their accent you shall know them and some few Nigerians.

My flight down here was amazing, had a stop over at Dubai airport then finally Heathrow the next morning plus i got a window sit.

I had just one luggage which weighed 22kg plus one hand luggage, no food stuffs cos I like travelling light. Just my clothes plus winter kit .Was really prepared for that and was disappointed when I got to London and there was no snow ( don't yab me please )

My employer arranged an airport pick up for me plus accommodation so it was easy getting to my accomodation and they already got me a giffgaff sim card which only gave me unlimited phone calls and sms to UK numbers plus 3g data.

I've been able to get around town, got my BRP, opened an account with HSBC, registered with a gp and all

Found an asian store, the only one in Salisbury. They have basically everything from indomie to garri to yam, palm oil, egusi, semo even wooden mortar.

I generally do my shopping at tesco and pounland for groceries and charity shops for shoes and clothes in the mean time. I hope to upgrade when my account gets bigger . Plus I found the brioche bread at tesco , I finally felt like I was eating bread after a long time, not all those tasteless oyinbo bread.

I've really learnt a lot from this thread and I'm happy to be here finally.
Just want to say thank you to all the people that added useful information to this thread and kept it going

From what I saw there ...no covid test is needed for BA but there is an online form you complete

Thanks a lot. I have also seen info on the form to fill online. I guess I just need confirmation from someone that has come into the UK from Nigeria recently. You know how naija things can be. You will just reach airport and hear you cannot travel. I will check the students thread as you have said.

You’re correct. But the airline can let me return to my home country with an expired passport, at their discretion.

I plan on testing that discretion .

Yeap BA refused to check her in although few days before a friend Lawyer had warned us that legally an airline shouldnot fly with an expired passport if single nationality so we went early just incase and the system wont allow check in.

Before it was straightforward as a friend had used it before ... You pay an extra £100 or so each in postal order on top of the normal fees and that gets you same day passport. You go through the normal completion of forms and payment online then show up at the embassy with the postal order for fast track with or without appointment . If it just you ok but for like a family of 4 or more that adds up quickly.

However when we got to the embassy , they said that express /fast track service is temporary on hold due to backlog and they are working on clearing the backlog so to get into the embassy was very strict and was mainly only by appointment . It took a lot of plenty talk to eventually enter and process fast track even with your postal order payment . However ETC people were allowed walk in so we almost changed to ETC

I saw a comment up here on this page by eduson33 were it was easy to do fast track just by paying the extra but that wasn't my experience that day as they said it's on hold . So I guess the embassy head touches on and off. There is a post office near the embassy so MAYBE someone can show up and first confirm if its possible and the fast track price then walk to the post office and do the postal order and then go back or maybe ask for Suleiman as suggested above

You need a good Samaritan working at the Embassy for fast track service or you and your postal order will remain outside
