We go for mediocre coaches because those are the kind of coaches our FAs can afford.

Iwobi is not a bad player. The truth is it is only Rohr that seems to know how to use him. As a #10 we see the best of Iwobi, and that is why he has been good in the GWG on the overall than at Club level. Iwobi has not been properly utilised in his preferred role by club coaches. They always push him to the wings. A technically gifted player like him who thrives on operating centrally between "enemy" lines in the final third, linking up with his attackers and finding them in spaces with his vision and opening up spaces with his quick passing interchanges..... has been enduring wing football even when his strengths doesn't really lie there. But b'cos he wants to play, he has to try adapt and that he did.


Honestly, this whole stereotyping of the Black African cerebral playmakers trying to make them wingers or something else other than Number 10 has been going on in Europe for a long time now. They always see our African lads as Physical, Pacy and full of raw power... You hear it from the commentators. Even after we take on European teams and beat them black and blue, they will never admit they were beaten by a technically sound team... They will always say they were beaten by a team that has great physical advantage and qualities. Rubbish!!!

This is the problem being faced by our African Playmakers abroad. This is why we have so few of them thriving like Ziyech.

So Idennaa... This is really not about Iwobi's talents coz that lad is really talented. This is about how the coaches use him and so far only Gernot Rohr has been able to get the best out of Iwobi in the Post-Wenger period.

And no, this is not me making an excuse for Iwobi. You do your research on our African Playmakers who go to Europe and come tell me how many make it. This is why I am particular about K.Nwakali at Huesca. He is one of the very few playmaker talents we have in Europe right now and he will thrive b'cos he is not restricted to just the #10 role... His skillsets enables him thrive as a deeplying playmaker which is something not so common even among the elite European midfielders as only the likes of Jorginho, Fabian Ruiz, Thiago Alcantara and a few others are in that class of DLPs.

Even Ebere Eze, another classic #10 has to adapt his game to be able to play from the wings. This is one of the reasons he didn't exactly shine yesterday. And Eze is no CM, neither can he play DLP. Eze is restricted to just the #10 and SS roles. And if he doesn't play there and is constantly pushed to the wings, he too will be f*cked.
But in Nwakali and lads like Aribo and Ejaria... These guys are adaptable. Nwakali can fill in at AM, CM but he thrives more at DLP.

Aribo can play AM and CM comfortably. He has the lungs for a Box-to-box role too.

Ejaria can play AM, and CM too. Also plays from the left too like at Reading.


But restricted Playmakers like Iwobi and Eze will struggle for Consistency if not played in their true roles super consistently. They may adapt to the wings roles for a while but their natural role will always be their natural roles.

This is a problem I have noticed for a while and discussed elsewhere. But now I mention it here because I feel it is about time.
