Hello friends, as regards Vehicle History Checks on VIN, what can we do about accidented cars that was brought in and refurbished in Nigeria? Or any Car that had accident in Nigeria.

Could there be any system or structure whereby we can collate reports and form a Nigerian database?

I honestly think they would, based on experience.

Unfortunately most African countries dont have database for accident damaged cars

I think this is due to LACK OF ENFORCEMENT of insurance, in the WESTERN WORLD no car should be on the road without insurance, eg in UK some police car read your number plate automatically and if your are not insured the police stops to investigate further. So in most African countries there is less or zero enforcement. If the enforcement is effective it would be easy to report every accident as the involved parties would want to claim or report the accident therefore automatically an accident report is generated on the cars involved

Also insurance companies should have a data base they share among themselves and also share that with CENTRAL VEHICLE REGISTY of the country

So i think 1st is to educate people about having insurance mainly how it protects you from rackless drivers, they damage your car due to their faults they pay through their insurance, insurance keep data of all reported accident involved cars and what sort of damage was on the car eg in UK there are categories, there is one where the car needs to retested (after being fixed )for road worth by an official from relevant authority

So in Africa we all lack the enforcement and collection of data

they dont waste but there are other factors involved that you dont consider due to how african countries vrs the west work

1 in the western world time is money, people get paid per hour so hours spend fixing the car are not worth it the insurance would rather pay you off than getting the car fixed

2 some damages are beyond health and safety standards the accident would have damaged the structure integrity of the car, therefore putting you at risky

I totally disagree with this explanation, if you want to talk about people that waste things most, it is WE - The Africans, a race of people that are able to recycle things easily to make other things or people that found use for almost anything are not wasteful but smarter . . .
Some of the accidental rides imported to Nigeria are nothing but coffin on wheel

The only accidental cars that should be allowed into Nigeria are rides that have been fixed in the western world before being shipped to Nigeria because it would have been certified road worthy because in Nigeria, almost anything can be driven on the road.

Lastly, if anyone want to import accident cars to Nigeria to be fixed and sold in Nigeria, at least let the person buying it be aware of the impact and also, let the price be a reflection of the accident while you let the buyer to be aware of what could be the consequences of such accidents or fixes made in Nigeria.
