Coach Michel has insisted that Kelechi Nwakali has a future at SD Huesca despite their promotion to the top-flight of Spanish football.

According to Radio Huesca, Michel revealed that he won't close the door on Jaime Seoane, Joaquín Muñoz and Nwakali if they show they have the level to play in La Liga.

SD Huesca are in the market for a defensive midfielder and the possibility of the former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles skipper departing the club cannot be entirely ruled out as he would see himself fall down the pecking order if the Aragon outfit manage to get the deal over the line.

Nwakali impressed on his La Liga debut last weekend, coming off the bench for the last 28 minutes of Huesca's impressive 1-1 draw with Villarreal.

The 22-year-old is contracted to Huesca, whom he joined from Arsenal in 2019, until the summer of 2022.

Last season, Nwakali could only made five appearances in the La Liga2 due to visa issues which is now fully resolved.

In the Europa league 2nd Qualifying Round today, Alampasu's FK Ventspils lost 5-1 to Samuel Adegbenro's Rosenborg BK at home in Latvia.

Alampasu kept all 90mins.

Pyagbara played 37 mins as a 53mins sub in.

Kazeem also featured off the bench for Ventspils in the 75th min, playing the final 15+ but could not rescue his side from the spanking.


For Rosenborg, Samuel Adegbenro played 58 mins before being subbed off.

THE QUALITY(OR LACK OF IT) OF THE LOCAL LEAGUES
Charity begins at home they say. Nigerian league matches used to attract a swathe of fans to the match venues. My father could list at least ten players each from Rangers, Mighty Jets, Ranchers Bees, Shooting Stars, etc. Important personalities like governors, lawmakers used to grace most of the matches. Today, the league venues hardly attract 100 fans, most of whom are street urchins looking to forment trouble.
Issues related to poor funding, corruption, government ownership of clubs, incompetence and poor sporting infrastructure are already well documented.

No national team coach can confidently select players from the league because of poor quality, poor technical abilities and bureaucratic bottlenecks in the league administration.
Most top footballing countries still have their leagues enjoying massive support from their countrymen even if most of the players are not selected from there.

POOR COVERAGE OF THE LEAGUE BY THE LOCAL MEDIA

There was a time when one could tune in to the local radio and television stations and get quality live coverage of matches involving the most adored local clubs, our national teams and even secondary school championships.
Today, our leagues are hardly televised so it's hard for the new generation of youths to follow Nigerian football. The so-called largest television network in Africa(NTA) is an eyesore and is still struggling with anachronistic tools. Tell me which serious footballing country would have its national team playing a high profile match and the national television is not broadcasting it....
Where will the followership emanate from?
During my undergraduate days, I could remember I had to trek miles with few passionate fans looking for where to watch AFCON qualifiers.
The "Super Eagles 2 - Nigeria 1" nuisance is still fresh in our minds. Let me leave it here....

DEATH OF SCHOOL SPORTS
Someone did mention earlier and I totally agree with him that what we have now is a bunch of gambling youths with no passion for the game.
But where is the sports infrastructure in schools to nurture the passion? Are there still zonal, state and regional tournaments to discover and/or showcase talents? Do talented students still drop their pens from WASSCE and walk straight into the cadet teams? Do we still have trained Physical/Health Education teachers in primary and post-primary schools?
These are issues that I think have not been addressed and if they remain so, we would still have the prevailing apathy towards our national teams by the new generation youths.

The lad is good. Missed the last U-20 WC due to injury. His side are topping the league in Norway and he is one of their very best players. Won't stay in Norway for long.

Nigeria's Super Eagles now ranked 29th in the World.

Senegal is 20th. 1st in Africa

Tunisia is 26th. 2nd in Africa.

Nigeria is third in Africa.

African Champs, Algeria is 35th in the world and 4th in Africa.

Good thing we play Tunisia in one of our two friendlies. A big chance to gain more points against a team ranked above us.
