I would have preferred a coordinated approach to development for the entire south-east, but this isn't possible given present day political and structural realities! If i had my way, we'd return back to the Eastern Region, with a central gov't coordinating things from Enugu, while the present state delineations can still be kept, but with the states having some kind of federal autonomy to run their own affairs.

With such a situation, any state that wants a airport can still build one, but in this case the central gov't in Enugu will link the entire region by rail and extend it to at least two seaports. A seaport could built at Obuaku (all we need do is widen and dredge the waterway leading up to the Atlantic); we could partner with Opobo to build one there (this will need a super rail-bridge to link Opobo with the mainland); another option is to link with ports in Akwa-Ibom or Calabar.

These ideas can only materialise with a centralised gov't for the entire south-eastern region. We saw this kind of rapid, well thought out and coordinated approach to development in the Eastern Region when all parts were touched in the regions development plan: from Nkalagu to Enugu to Owerri to Aba to Port Harcourt to Calabar....every part of the region was included and had a sense of belonging.

Y ARE MY PEOPLE RUNNING FROM RIVERS STATE.

WHO ARE WE LEAVING IT FOR?

WEN NDIIGBO ARE READY TO HOST A DEEP SEAPORT, WE HEAD TO BONNY ISLAND AND BUILD THE GREATEST DEEP SEAPORT NOT ONLY IN THE EASTERN REGION BUT AFRICA.

LET US FORGET ALL THIS TALK OF OBUAKU.

THAT MONEY WILL BETTER SPENT DEVELOPING A MASSIVE PORT COMPLEX IN ONITSHA.

We already have a center operating from enugu (SE gov's forum) but it must remain weak and states should be allowed to develop at their pace. Example, umahi championed the course for enugu airport repair in his capacity as gov forum chairman but also pursuing his own state airport project

THE STATES ARE HERE TO STAY.

WEN NDIIGBO GET THE PRESIDENCY WE SHOULD ENSURE THAT WE CREATE MORE STATES ACROSS NIGERIA AND THE SE.

Basil you have come back again with your usual useless posts. There's nothing like center, every state is a center in the federation. For instance, Anambra, Delta, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers etc, are all federating units and are all moving at their own pace.

There can never be central government again. Let every state continue to build what they believe can position their state better. Some states that felt cheated in that era like Ebonyi, etc, will never accept a return to that era. I support the present dispensation, every state should be it's own center and move at their own pace. Anyways, what are mine i even arguing when this is just a chit chat. In reality Nigeria is operating a federal system of government.

6-lanes Anambra international airport road under construction. The road is about 10km stretch to the airport. From the information available they have done earthworks and granite up to 8km, remaining 2km to reach the airport site before the actual asphalt starts. As at the time of getting the pictures, massive work that involves about 5 major contractors were at the airport precinct working to beat the commissioning date.

STILL ON THE ISSUE OF DEEP SEAPORT, NDIIGBO MUST NOT WAIT FOR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

ALL WE NEED TO BE IS STAKE HOLDERS IN A MAJOR DEEP SEAPORT CONSTRUCTED IN RIVERS STATE.

IT IS BETTER THAN WAITING FOR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO BUILD IT THERE.

THIS WAY, WE HAVE A CLAIM TO IT.

INSTEAD OF OBUAKU, WE BUILD THE DEEP SEAPORT ALONG THE EASTER CORRIDOR LEADING TO THE FORMERLY PROPOSED OBUAKU.

BONNY ISLAND IS CONNECTED TO EASTERN STATE VIA RAILWAY ALREADY.

POLITICALLY SPEAKING, THIS PROJECT SHOULD BE BETWEEN THE 5 SE STATE GOVERNORS AND RIVERS STATE GOVERNOR.

IT SHOULD BE A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR PROJECT WITH THE SE STATES AS MAJOR STAKE HOLDERS.

WE DONT NEED TO WAIT FOR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON THIS.

THE CONTRACTORS CAN PICK A SUITABLE SPOT ANYWHERE ALONG THE EASTERN CORRIDOR.

They should plant trees on both sides of the road to make the drive to and from the airport scenic and impressive for visitors, investors and tourists coming into the state. Also, world class route signage should be included in the construction.

GBAM!

I hope they take the scenery and environment very very seriously. We always focus on the physical construction and forgetting that it's because we failed to plant trees and flowers that make our projects always look third world in appearance. Now is a good time for massive planting of trees Especially palm trees and coconut trees that are native to the area. Its also part of ensuring food security to use economic trees for beautification.

Even the parking lot area inside the airport should have lots of palm trees & coconut trees and other trees to create a scenic environment.

ONE THING NDIIGBO MUST LEARN OR REALISE IS THAT WE SHOULD NOT DEPEND ON ANY GROUP OF PEOPLE.

NDIIGBO MUST CHART THEIR OWN COURSE.

I LAUGH WEN THE AKWA IBOMITE AND CROSS RIVER ARE BUILDING DEEP SEAPORT AND WE ARE BUSY CHEERING THEM.

WEN THE INSULT WILL START, IT WILL BE A BITTER LESSON.

CERTAINLY, THEIR WILL BE INSULT WEN THEY REALISE THAT THEY ARE OUR ONLY OPTION AND WE ARE USING WAT THEY BUILT.

CERTAINLY THEIR WILL BE INSULT IF WE ALSO DEPEND ON ONNE SEAPORT.

THE BEST WAY TO NEGOTIATE THESE TERRIBLE COASTAL NEIGHBOURS IS TO ALWAYS DSIPLAY EXCELLENCE AND INDEPENDENCE.

THAT WAY, WEN WE USE THEIR PORTS, THEY KNOW TO BEHAVE THEMSELVES, BECAUSE WE HAVE OTHER OPTIONS.

THAT OPTIONS SHOULD INCLUDE WAT CAN BE REGARDED AS OUR DEEP SEAPORT THAT WE BUILT.

Prof. Chukwuma Soludo Inspects Awka Millennium City.

A former Central Bank of Nigeria governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo today Saturday, 19th September 2020 toured Awka Millennium City to see things for himself.

Addressing the Press after the tour, Prof. Soludo said that the estate is what a modern livable smart city should be in terms of the facilities that are planned for the estate.

The formost economics professor thanked governor Willie Obiano for thinking ahead of his compatriots for making the place a reality, though public private partnership (PPP) and described the Chairman of M-P Infrastructures, Chief Clem Nwogbo who are the promoters of the estate as a quintessential Onye Anambra that has keyed into the Aku Luo Uno mantra of the Willie Obiano administration.

The erudite professor further noted that the estate is in line with what governor Willie Obiano envisioned in the Anambra Vision 2070, which has its core message is to have Anambra that will become one major liveable smart city in the nearest future.

According to the Chairman of M-P Infrastructures, the promoters of the estate, Chief Clem Nwogbo, they want to replicate what would be seen in western world, as the estate will have parks, adequate security, teleconferencing, lakes and anything you will expect from five generation world.

Prof. Soludo had on arrival inspected the access roads to the estate being constructed by the M-P Infrastructures Limited.

Other people have served APGA far longer than Soludo. I think that Soludo is well qualified to be Governor of Anambra, however, Anambra is no longer about having a big name become Governor. Peter Obi and Willie Obiano were not big names but they did well in Anambra

The problem with Soludo is that he is the type who is likely to decamp to APC after using the party to win elections in Anambra, just like Okorocha did in Imo state. Once a politician starts defecting even before winning elections, he is not likely to stop after winning elections

Anambra is not interested in big names, they already have many of that. Anambra is interested in good governance and their is a chance that if Soludo becomes Governor, he will switch his attention to power at the centre by decamping to APC or PDP, thereby derailing everything just like Okorocha who ended messing Imo state up after starting well when he was in APGA

Obi assures support for construction of Nnewi Mall
7 years ago

CONSTRUCTION of the proposed shopping mall for Nnewi would commence in a few days time, Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has said.

Obi ,who spoke yesterday at the inspection of the ongoing Agulu Lake Hotel and Resort with two new bridges, said other malls at Awka and Nnewi were ongoing.

“The mall at Onitsha and Awka are ongoing. In a few days we shall start that of Nnewi. We had planned these things and have enough money set aside for them. We shall also start the three Arms Zone, for which we also have enough Money set aside,” Obi stressed.”

He further assured said the state government had enough money to complete all the projects being embarked upon by his administration across the state.

https://thenationonlineng.net/obi-assures-support-for-construction-of-nnewi-mall/amp/

7 years later have Nnewi and Awka malls been completed? What happened to the money already set aside for their completion and why didn't Peter Obi complete them before handover? How will Nigeria develop with all these insincere claims from elected officials?

Nnewi mall was stopped because the land was being contested by Nnewi indigenes.... The land was sold to government without approval and its a community land. I think the mall now belong to Nnewi town. We will build it wen we are ready....

To kno the real story on the mall read this. Elombah is an insider and is from Nnewi..
