To the Bolded..... Lets avoid what we dont have a single information about before running around with advise..... PHd apart from Nigeria and Eastern Europe is the Most Flexible education of your life and it is almost entirely free, even in Canada! YES! quote me. You get paid doing Phd, your family and kids get free education studying Phd, not everywhere though, but with the right percentage in your MSc, you will get it. When you are offered a Phd admission it comes with reference for Family, Incase you have one. Even your accommodation is for a Family Make i Match brake here but You too drive rough sha. Rubbie21: |
Sorry for the late response though... In addy to your Mention of my Moniker....,, I will flog you passionately if i had a chance to meet you in person,... PHD? what was your percentage? Above 65%? anyway forgive me about the flogging, but where do you guys get your informations from? Why the RUSH? keep family here and apply singly, even if you pay for tuition eventually you are Paying to "do a JOB" ! Yes PHd is JOB. How many PHD application did you see here? Read your rejection again... it makes me happy because you actually don't have a problem, You just have to reduce the load on you. I wont lie to you, the VO loves you, and has given the NEXT VO that will tackle your application a reason to give you a visa. Phd is a JOB!, You didn't actually educate your self entirely on that , it ok to travel with family too, But why make it glaringly that you don't intend to return? You have a beautiful chance bro/sis... am sure your SOP was exceptional too, just that you used your hand to put yourself in trouble. As for FUNDING, let me know your percentage ,... did the supervisor offer you an assistance ? did you have to get a confirmation letter from the Supervisor to apply for admission? Actually some schools dont Care, whats the name of the school ? Sincerely , You are getting the VISA, Check my Moniker, i have never sounded like this before! IT shall end in Praise (Frank.d.1st) [/quote Thank you boss. I actually had a 5.13/7 fro university of ibadan in food tech. My supervisor didnt give any assistance. The university is McGill and am going for a PhD in Bioresource engineering dept Food engineering option same as my undergraduate degree where i had a 2nd class upper. As per confirmation letter i didnt get any but he only approved the admission when the post graduate school ask him about it. Please help out with supervisor with funding i have just one month as i have differed to winter 2021 |

No one pays for it anyway, unless your percentage isn’t enough, so they give out spaces for eventual “university ratings”..... A University must have a PhD student all round the clock of the year.... this universities in Canada we are even talking are rated like 1000th position in the world o, left for the immigration laws .... But it is helping them strongly , that’s what made UK schools today! fratermathy: |

My best advice is to reapply with the same school, cut everyone lose and fly solo, get back to me on the success story.... As per finance you know what to do!!!

|

skull4eva: I've said it before and Akannitommy and vibrant99 have corroborated that you should get funding. I even gave you a format that you can use to mail your GPD or supervisor. To the best of my knowledge, McGill doesn't typically admit PhD students without some funding, even if partial. Something is wrong somewhere in your case and you should quickly sort it out or apply to another school like Concordia or UdM. |

Most school I know from 2021 sept give out full funding for 75% in ur Msc. To also calrify the guy talking about money, most schools for PHD is less than 8K CAD, let’s relax a bit and most school will not charge you a second year fee if you improve significantly! Lots and lots of advantage with PhD, because you are building their rating being there !! skull4eva: |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by fratermathy(m): 9:12pm On Sep 19, 2020 |
vibrant99: On the average, McGill charges around C$18,000 per year for PhD for international students. However, I agree that most schools keep PhD tuition low. The issue is not even about tuition or paying for it. If you're applying for a study permit as a PhD student without funding, the VO will ask MANY QUESTIONS and that alone can influence a negative decision. This is without prejudice to those who have TETFund or some other external scholarships or funding. However, in general, VOs prefer internal funding or Canadian based funds for PhD applicants. 2 Likes |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by vibrant99(m): 9:21pm On Sep 19, 2020 |
You came in strong and also informed , but let’s drive this way.... The VO isn’t actually disturbed because he doesn’t have funding , he worried about the well being of his family going with him, if could get himself a decent life if he applied and later sent for them after 6months . Funding is good and great, but maybe not everyone would get funded , I wonder how he didn’t get funding for that grade? 5/7 he said ? That’s huge but maybe how it reflected in his compulsory courses also matters , but either way .... I insist he gives it another shot standing his grounds but maybe a little lighter than he was in the beginning .... Money go come! fratermathy: 1 Like |

The only persons eligible to apply for a gcms note are persons in canada presently. Otherwise you can good third party sites that can apply on your behalf as well but they are more expensive |

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Akannitommy: 9:55pm On Sep 19, 2020 |
@vibrant99 Your argument is valid but I pitch tent with @fratermathy on this. The moniker has a chance at getting funded if he alters his strategy a bit and avoids desperation. If he can overcome these two, he would be able to get full benefit of his profile. My point is MCGills ranks in the top 3 in Canada consistently and that will remain same for decades to come. It also maintains a global ranking in the top 50 and will continue to pull it weight for years to come. Hence, for an applicant to get in at all speaks to their competitive profile. Therefore, the problem I see here is that the department took more qualified applicants in this cohort who have been offered all available funding. However, if the candidate enrolls, there is a good chance he/she will get funding in subsequent semesters or years but that is if he gets the visa. So the first obstacle is to get that and one good way to do this with little stress is to apply to programs that has better fit to his profile and maybe rank slightly lower than MCGills and therefore less competitive. I argue that if he had applied to multiple programs with the same profile that got him/her an unfunded offer at MCGills, the chances of getting a full or partial funding in other programs elsewhere is very HIGH. Delay is not to deny! I suggest the moniker defer until fall 2021 or even risk forfeiting the current offer and repackage his application to 3 to 4 other programs. If he is so keen on MCGills, he can inform the supervisor and the admission committee that he would be applying to external scholarships and other programs with a view to get funding. A PhD offer is not a gift but an acknowledgement of your preparation and potentials, so get the best offer possible for your skills. If he/she calms down and present a funded offer in 6-months time then apply without family, I am 99.99% sure the SP will be granted. NB: The value of PhD full funding averages about N30m equivalent. Who doesn't want free money? I would wait one more year to improve my chances of such an opportunity. My two cents though. I know people who got multiple funded PhD offers and found it difficult to decide on which one to pick. It was no longer the program with the best funding but then other sentimental factors came in too. In fact in one of those cases, 2 schools (NYU and MIT in the US) offered the candidate 50% each of cost of flight ticket to come visit their campuses, meet with students and professors to enable her make a firm decision. Not tales by moonlight oh! I was involved in the whole story. So think calmly and optimize your value. Cheers! vibrant99: 2 Likes |

skull4eva: Skull4eva A lot of people have excitedly proffer a solution to your case, but, like many of us, I think you want to be adamant and be in a hurry. Why did I said many of us? Sometimes, in January, I got Admission to uOttawa with an msc course based admission - no funding. Even though I applied to about 10 schools, USA and Canada. As expected, I was looking for finance up and down and the situation was not really encouraging. It was particularly frustrating, because I graduated with a first class. But then, I was lucky to meet someone on here, whose words of encouragement shaped my excitement to try again. In her words, she said why the rush. Try other schools. 3 months after that discussion, I got another admission, faster than I ever imagined, and it covers almost all my tuition. So, I would encourage, don't be in an unnecessary rush and weaken your profile. Re package your profile, re do your resume, brush up your Sop, research interest. Mail profs in your current school and tell them about the need for funding. Infact, you may be surprised that their is funding for you in the same dept.. if you don't ask, some schools won't say anything. Ask your supervisor, ask the dept, ask the faculty. If nothing happens, look elsewhere, narrow your search to few other schools and see what may happen. However, if you are unwilling to try again. Then I can only wish you good luck in your next application. For your next application, while you are strengthening the financial package for your file, remember to package your personal asset, package your wife resources while they stay behind, present a reasonable financial outlook for your family while you are away. All the luck. 6 Likes |

You need to see how I religiously read through your comment , I must be a Christian for that singular act . Anyway I didn’t know it was McGill before I talked about the schools in Canada being 1000th ratings , but come to think about it, less than 10 schools made the 100 Mark in Canada to the World . Canada is hot-cake now brotherly , am sure there are Indians and Chinese that got into this program or better still Iranians, they would be considered first even though our brother may beat their standard, it is all about Us, Trust me . 2nd Tier 3rd Tier Universities will march it up to him and render him almost a 100% funding with almost an unbelievable stipend , why ? They are like 1134th position in the world , they need to buy that standard. But I will insist he get his course done at McGill , I have this faith about this particular situation . If you do PhD in a lower institution , you are almost going to be looking at working for them or a lower institution, you can’t get into a bigger institution if You did PhD at MUn and wants to work at McGill you are in your own, but you can come in from an institution in Netherlands that is like ranked 150th in the world because they need your experience , .... This are basic experience not entirely what should be adhered to . Akannitommy: 2 Likes |

Anon123: So please why is everyone losing hope with what's written on gcms note? I strongly believe that once your portal isn't updated yet as refused then there is great hope!! Some people have actually been refused officially, while some haven't been refused yet... In my opinion tho, been refused on gcms note could simply mean a primary VO only viewed your file and it's hasn't been finalized by the senior V.O. Once it's been finalized by the senior V.O then it will be updated officially.. Well you can correct me if I am wrong tho.. 3 Likes |

Phatkayconcept:Thank you but i have mailed my supervisor and the faculty as well as GPD nothing yet but from finding i discovered that all those accepted where all 1st bsc and distinction msc. From my findings from my supervisors current students he gives funding only when you have arrived and proved ur self in your 1st semester. He also gives RA as well once u have arrived. I think i will need to find another school along the line but since Mcgill refund policy is good i will also process that along side since i can even change school wen i get to canada change supervisor or even change dept. As per providing for my family, my wife is a graduate assistant at the same university were i work so i think am covered on that if i leave them behind |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Akannitommy: 10:47pm On Sep 19, 2020 |
You are correct @vibrant99 and I agree that he is a potential first tier candidate but what we want and what we can get are two different things. I also wanted Utoronto, UBC, MCGills but none of these had a perfect match, funding or space for me. Concordia on the other hand gave me $120k worth of funding (in 6-weeks of application) while UToronto didn't even think I was good enough to make me an offer. Others mostly didn't have a supervisor who could handle my interests. 6-months after the initial offer plus funding, Concordia gave me another $5000 special scholarship I didn't even apply to. BTW, I was also asked to apply to an external funding worth $75k supported by my supervisor and currently waiting for the outcome of that competition. My point is, the moniker should dial down a bit (not necessarily downgrade to lower tiers) and with a strategy can achieve very great things and enjoy an amazing PhD experience with his family. Again, why the rush? What shall be shall be! @Skull4eva, above details are for you so you can get a sense of what we think you are qualified to get with your profile (even without seeing your admission application) and hopefully you can change your strategy. All the best! vibrant99: 4 Likes |

Gurus I hail you all. I need candid advise on visa application. I received admission to study Pgd in Computer Systems Technology -Networking @ Centennial college for Jan 2021. I work as a system administrator in a manufacturing company(the IT field for over 15 years).I m about to make my part payment by month end or so. Firstly,I need to know what I can do pertaining to the financial aspect i.e Can I use a sponsor related/ not related to me? How will I meet up on my 6 months statement as the balance in my account is for the part payment? Is there a possibility to submit less than 3months? Can my sponsor be my employer? If yes what should the company submit? Can one use pension funds and shares docs(from both myself and wife)? Can I use landed property worth 20M in my name. What other docs can one submit for financial support as the course is approx $18k? Secondly for the study visa I would like to know about the docs required. Can I use my wife's landed docs as mine to support home ties? Pls bear with me for all these questions. |

Pee2Jay9: The applicant is an education administrator. Except the applicant work for top schools, S/he would probably earn below 500,000 naira. You are the one assuming O/G worker and discussing salary outside of his profile. He asked for opinion and I offer mine based on his profile and ask more questions about the documents. It is offensive that you called my assumptions flawed but yours are out of the applicant context. Please let’s stop the statement “if the visa officer ...“ People are here to learn and share ideas. If you want only visa officers opinion, applying for the visa will get you that. Thanks and God bless. 1 Like |

skull4eva: I understand your desire to fully use this opportunity, but you deserve a better admission. Also, what you plan is not that easy to do in the same school if your supervisor doesn’t support it. You may be forced to transfer to other school rather than downgrade to masters. I know you are eager to do this, but try to do it the right and get PhD admission with scholarship. This is the period to look for supervisor in other schools that may offer you funding for fall 2021, but you are busy using that time to beat around this rejection. A PhD Scholarship will increase your chances radically. you may be highly devastated if you miss this window of supervisor search and your visa officer is not convinced about your fund situation again. I advise Use your time well, but the final decision is yours. All the best. 2 Likes |
