They all have bank Accounts, kids and relations in US, EU and UK , The ban also include those . That's why they are scared. For Nigerian Politicians now, if you rig elections, your bank accounts in oyibo land will be frozen, your kids in Oyibo schools will be sent home and your relations will be banned from entry into oyibo land and the politicians themselves will not be able to go for medical check up Abroad.

this is scary stuff for Nigerian politicians, that why they are wary of rigging.

This is one of the major reasons the APC rigging machine went to sleep on this election, no politician wants to risk being banned by oyibo

Who pays the Piper dictates the tune.

I think the Federal govt wants to whittle down the power of some political actors. Not paying the allowances of substantial number of the police, army and ad-hoc staffs sent for the election could be deliberate

These unpaid officials are the major influence in elections rigging. They decided to act in apathy since financial inducement did not come from the usual source.

That's why there is also less violence. What is the purpose of being involve in a cause that won't bring reward

Because many within the ruling party wanted Obaseki to win. El Rufai, Fayemi, oyegun etc worked for Obaseki. That's what neutralized federal might. Don't get too carried away.

APC must have something to say. They said they did it to betray Tinubu and his presido ambition come 2023.

Ordinary visa ban is too trivial to stop a desperate Nigerian politician from grabbing power & getting his hands in the public treasury.
Is the US the only country on earth?

God bless President Buhari for giving us the freest, fairest, most peaceful & transparent election since return to democracy.

Congratulations to Obaseki & the PDP.

Truly Edo is not Lagos.

Simple

What a US Visa an does is it will place a red flag on your passport and biodata hence making it likely that other countries will ban you when you apply.for visa.

Now a typical Nigerian politician is a crook and needs to be able to run abroad like Deziani former minister of petroleum. But if you see banned you can't run out of Nigeria so it's their worst night mare

From all indications, Obaseki has won this election but two things stood out unexpectedly

1. It was generally peaceful

2. There was zero federal might influence.

What do you think is the reason behind this?

I would hazard a guess and I am open to correction.

A: The U.S visa ban restricted federal influence, which Oshiomole, Ganduje and Tinubu were banking on. I was on twitter when I read that order has been given that there should be no interference in the election. This was why, after votes at the PU were done, all security agents, from Army to Police and others LEFT.

B. The Oba of Benin meeting. Before the election, Oba invited both contestants for a meeting where he specifically warned against violence in whatever form. I often read from outsiders that Oba of Benin is just like any oba out there but what majority do not know is the weight the Oba of Benin carries among his people and this election further proved that.

Since the APC took power, this is the most peaceful election we have had...

The question is WHY?

Please join the discussion and I would like to learn from other persons and correct me where you feel I am wrong.

Visa restriction? You think most of those people care about visa to the US or UK? The FGcould have instructed officer Abu and his men to do the needful and you cannot deny the President a visit to the US or UK. Officer Abu meanwhile does not even have international passport.

this is madness at the bolded. since we returned to democracy? PMB and his cabals can't suck blood over Edo state election because the land was never for APC whether dey interfere or not even with all their vote buying strategy like a friend tipped me about they still lost. if bubu was a free and fair man, why would he rig election against Atiku.

the only person that can assume that tittle for now in Nigeria still remain... G.J.

visa ban is not too trivial for Nigeria politicians. Most of these politicians have their businesses in America and Europe and also medical tourism. Also remember that not all of them are seeking for the gov position. No doubt kudos to Mr President, but the visa ban is a major factor.

The major reason is because there was no deployment of federal might. Visa Ban is not an issue? There are many people who don't fancy going to the US.

Honestly the WILL of the people prevail.
Isaiah 55:6-7 KJV
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord , and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Christ is coming soon

Let me tell u something u guys have refused to allow sink in:
Buhari has never shown any interest in state politics. I dont know why, the man just isn't interested in such affairs and that's why he can host obaseki today , and host oshiomole tomorrow.
This is the same thing that happened in the last gubernatorial elections where he told people in the south west to vote for any they liked( which was a political blunder)
