In my own assessment of the entire processes preceding and post election can be summarized as follows: 1. Most people supported Obaseki not because he will transform Edo state overnight but simply because, they want to make a clear statement to the federal government in protest of their misrule. 2. The people are tired of undue interference and results manipulation by Godfathers. 3. Imposition of unpopular candidates to the electorates 4. Warning from the international community (Visa bans and other sanctions that may come as consequences) 5. Undue involvement of political gladiators from the west especially the Ambode treatment 6. Karma to Oshiomhole who openly denigrated Chief Anenih then want to play the same politics he criticized 7. The recent increase of fuel and energy tariff also impacted the popularity of APC as a party 8. Sympathy votes to Obaseki to compensate him for the broad daylight humiliation meted on him by APC 9. Wike's influence given his efforts on infrastructural development in Rivers State. Most people believed that, a friendly collaboration with Rivers may attract same measures of infrastructural development to Edo state. 10. The resentment of the people regarding the security situation in the country also a factor. Seeing all those angry and hungry looking security personnel also increase the protest. 11. Open protest is blocked by APC so peoples' freedom of speeches are no longer guaranteed hence they secretly aired their views through the ballots 12. Money bags and and offsite comprises and commitments here and there. 13. More importantly, The God factor - destiny! |

Sleevia: Buhari promised Obaseki a free and fair election when they met in Aso Rock. Buhari delivered on that promise. Kudos to him. Congrats to Obaseki. |

BLAISECAMPAORE:/ You called it "ordinary" because you don't understand the implications. There are health, financial and assets risks involved. US influence extends beyond her borders. Only a f00l will take such risk for someone like Oshiomhole...not when they are married. Their wives will nag them into not messing up their lives for Oshiomhole. / |

Maxymilliano: What yeye visa ban. It was the inference of Buhari. Do not forget that Obaseki has sympathizers in Abuja who are not favourably disposed to Oshiomole and Tinubu. Those guys would have kept advising Buhari to not get into the matter. Obaseki benefited from the internal intrigues of APC all towards 2023. Political neophytes should not get ahead of themselves with this Edo elections. Congratulations to Obaseki the ball is now in his court but I'll wouldn't be holding my breath I expect things to fall apart in his relationship with PDP soon 2 Likes |

Sleevia: Your guesses are correct and l commend you for being this observant of events. But you missed the BIGGEST CLUE. The BIGGEST REASON, the reason why "Federal Might" was completely absent (even Obaseki was using "State Might" and Wike was flexing muscle!) is because BUHARI HAS GIVEN UP ON APC. Let me elaborate without getting into a detailed, long story: - Buhari knows he does not have any other "Third Term" to contests for. - Buhari is interested more in Fulani hegemony, elongation of Northern Presidency, come 2023 and he is working for it. - By agrreements and arraignments within the APC, the North/Buhari has had its 8yrs and the Presidency must move to the South come 2023. - Looking at his Policies since the beginning of his second term (Herdsmen, Waterways Bill, RUGA, over 200% Increase in Electricity Tarrif, increase in Fuel Price, Stamp Duty, etc, it is obvious Buhari does not give a hoot about how Nigerians percieve him and APC anymore. He is not concerned if APC looses next election. Or why would a Buhari who wants the APC to win an election in two weeks time, chose that period to increase the price of Fuel and Electricity? - Dismantling the APC NEC and imposing Northerners in the Acting NEC (thereby siezing the party he came to, as a distant minority!). How do you expect those Northeners to go to Edo and convince them to vote for APC? - Siezing APC for improving it or for destroying it? The Result of this election is one of the ways to look at the answer. - Buhari is predicting that PDP will present a Northerner in 2023 (Atiku, most likely) and he does not want a viable APC (as a Party) that can be pose a challenge to the Northern candidate of PDP (Atiku0, in 2023 such that the North retains Power in 2023. - Using "Federal Might" in Edo will make APC stronger and that is against Buhari's vision of Northern domination of Nigeria and his Northern agenda in 2023. - In Kogi, where his "annointed boy" was seeking re-election, did you not see what happened, the brazen use of Security agencies (not in support of election rigging though) and Federal Might? So, it is not that he has suddenly become a Democrat or is afraid of US ban or any external stimuli like that, it has to do with BUHARI VISION FOR NIGERIA COME 2023. So, who are the winner and loosers here? Loosers are Southerners in general and the APC members who invested in the party, in particular. Other loosers are the likes of Oshiomole, Tinubu, Ize-Iyamu (though he was more of a PDP person than APC.), etc. Winners: Northerners in general, Atiku and PDP as a party. Other winners are Obaseki, Wike, Secondus and other fringe party members across the country. But the major looser is Nigeria as a country because Buhari is all about Mediocrity and Ethnic Nepotism. 3 Likes |

I think Mr President, having secured his second term will want to be neutral so as to leave on a high, after all he will never need Nigerians to vote for him again and he has only his (questionable) reputation to redeem. it's a good thing and the votes will now truly count. Coupled with the interest of the world powers to clamp down on unscrupulous elements in the democratic system. |

I don't think it's the fear of Visa ban. I think the presidency doesn't want Tinubu to be President in 2023, they are fighting him and reducing his powers by all means. Their plan was to retire him using Ambode but Ambode chickened out. Their next plan would be massive and would silence Tinubu's political career for life. The Northern Cabals in ABJ doesn't like Tinubu but his presidential ambition is making him go blind. But his eyes will soon clear. |

Yusman316:lol did you read the article at all? Anyway I believe you support the President which I have no problem with but I want to ask you, do you believe we are all equal in the country and every citizen deserves the best. If some people are doing well in Nigeria what of those who are not? Do you even care about them? What is the President doing to help those people? However I wonder what you mean doing well, even with all the resources we have we still buy fuel at 161 per liter and no electricity. Back to the topic, Buhari fears trump greatly and knows that if edo was rigged, he was ready to impose sanction on buhari. Why do you think buhari was trying to defend himself when trump asked him why Christians were being killed in the North? |

the fear of visa ban is the begining of wisdom i never expected Trump to act thus kudos to trump on the threat of the visa ban it made the politicians to tread carefully on the edo elections |
