kabe1: Early 2000s I used to go onboard ship, at NNS olokun,as it was called then, I remember a senior rate, introducing me to the 20 mike mike, on board, and analyzing the trigger, like the accelerator of a bike " and you zoom away" , the trigger looks almost like a bike handle, I remember the senior rates grumbling and disturbing a junior rate, that they don't like answering them, that it's the subbies they are always answering. |

dragon2: I agree with this. The other thing is, for very big ships which might be built in the future, how would they go about it? The large dry dock is often always occupied for big vessel maintenance works. The Dockyard only has one of such docks. As can be seen from this bird's eye photo, the twin docks would not be able to build a ship larger than 50 meters at most. The only other option would be building on the floor like the barges or borrowing the floating dock from Nimasa. 1 Like

Toju200: Hmmm, I used to be in dockyard when karaduwa was built, i know people that personally worked on it, designer and others, I think if it was aluminum I would have known, and working with aluminum is hard ooo, easier to shape and mould, difficult to wield ooo |

jl115: Accordingly, he revealed that the new vessel would not only enhance safety of Nigeria’s maritime environment but would also serve as a critical component of deployment of naval power for enhanced maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. He added that the vessel would also “ play a critical role in protection of maritime resources and preservation of law and order at sea, thereby contributing significantly to the promotion of global maritime commerce”. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/09/nigerian-navy-launches-new-hydrographic-survey-vessel/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |

kabe1:Dopeness of life, these upgrades are not as difficult as we sometimes think, the believe just need to be there that its possible, then watch, see magic. Even more impressed with the jet engine assessments and teardowns to replace the turbine blades, the scopes used to inspect the blades for damage. The engine seems like the most difficult part, and if they're already building expertise in this aspect then, definitely looking forward to a modern ground-up Alpha jet replica soon. Its all in the mind. PS: Alpha jet replica for in country use, not for export so there shouldn't be any need to acquire IP rights. Better yet, modify slightly so beat any backlash. Dicon can achieve this, with the level of sophistication they're showing with the newer version MRAPs. 1 Like |

lionel4power: Well, as earlier stated "its all in the mind" If a person believes they cant, then they will never, but if they believe its possible, then the rest is logistics. Note, for starters, I mentioned to replicate, i.e reverse engineering, not so long ago, some so called Nigerians were laughing at her attempts to develop MRAPs but I think we can all agree that we have a number of companies doing that now, DICON included. The most difficult part of a jet aircraft is the engine, this can be sourced off-shelf, avionics sourced off-shelf what's left? precision machining aluminum and steel to form the body can definitely be done in-house hydraulic pipe bending, wiring, can also be done in-house, hydraulic pipes for actuators, stabilizer motors, motor pumps, brake valves can also be done in-house, motors and pumps and be sources off-shelf the point is to show that its possible. If engineers are already capable of overhauling, its not a great leap to reverse engineering. fact. 3 Likes |

lionel4power: It all starts with belief. Nobody believed in 2015 that Nigeria would become a net exporter of MRAPs. If Pakistan, Serbia can build fighter jets, Nigeria will also be able to do so. 2 Likes |
