International trade indeed. How much goods does poor landlocked Niger Republic import that we should go and borrow $1.9b to build railway deep into thier country? A poor drought ravaged country that depends on Nigeria 100% for fuel and free electricity. Can you show us the section of that railway in Niger that Niger has spent thier own money to build? Who doesn't know that Buhari is just spending Nigerian money to help his kith and kin in his ancenstral village of Maradi? Have you forgotten that officials from Maradi came to join Buhari in his 2015 election campaign? You cannot efficiently evacuate goods to towns and cities your country by importers in Benin, Makurdi, Jos, Aba, Onitsha, Bauchi, Maiduguri, etc, yet you are rushing to spend heavily to help a foreign country. If $1.9billion was invested in internal rail system within Nigeria, or in building primary and secondary schools and in Northern Nigeria, would that not solve the embarrassing almajiri and out of school children begging in traffic in Abuja, Lagos and all over Nigeria? By Joseph Brendan I have been seeing many tweets that are not honest about the Kano-Katsina-Jigawa-Niger rail line. Some people are saying it is of no economic benefit to Nigeria. I will share my honest views and why it is an economically viable project First, study the map of Africa (Thread) Image Niger is a landlocked Country like Uganda Is. Niger imports everything they need from France, India, USA, China etc from Countries around them that have Ocean lines. By land mass, Niger is bigger than Nigeria. A potential agro business destination for Nigerians Borno state is twice the size of the south East in Nigeria. at least 4 times of Borno is what you need to add to Nigeria to be the size of Niger. They are heavily into Agriculture (Beans, Onions, Rice, Livestock, Soybeans, Maize, Sorghum, Millet ) They farm 3 times what we farm Building a rail Line to connect such a market is to our favor because if we have plans to have all seaports in Nigeria busy then we must create a market for them. One of the reasons seaports cannot be viable in Akwa Ibom and Calabar is because there is no market And people will say now that there is market. Question is. Have you seen real seaports ? Miami, Shanghai, Kenya, etc. If you see those ports you will know that Apapa and all Lagos ports is a small shop. We need to expand our market to our neighbors Currently the export between Nigeria and Niger is not organized. That beans you just ate most likely came from Niger. the beef you just ate too. the tiger used in that tiger nut drink also. Niger supplies us most of those things currently. Incase you do not know It is needed for the govt to establish a structured rail line and port relations with Niger. With that, USA, India, France etc can use Akwa Ibom, Calabar, Onne which are better seaports than Lagos to trade with Niger. Just how Kenya is used for Uganda We also on the other hand can invest in Agriculture in Niger republic using the AFCTA grounds. Now, Invest in a farm in Niger, move produce to Nigeria where there is population. Or better move produce to Nigeria for export with Niger trade partners in Uyo or Onne Also, there is Mali, Burkina Faso, Algeria markets that we can access through Just Niger. Do not always see things from sentimental and political angles always. Learn to wear your business glasses sometimes. 15 years from now, these things will be Booming In Africa, Landlocked countries are the targets. They are populated with large land mass. Uganda is over 100 million people. Niger is an estimated 200 million People market. And you think accessing such market for trade is a wrong move ? The rail line is a good move Currently we are losing out with the Benin,Togo trade. EU and France are using those countries as shops to sell to us only. What can Togo and Benin buy from us. You can drive Togo in an hour. Surulere is more populated than Togo. So what can they buy ? Niger is a market worthy We will be foolish to allow the Niger Import and export business to Togo and Benin only. Northern Nigeria is the Agric hub of Nigeria. Exposing their farmers to a new 200 million people market is worth it. Incase You never knew Nigeria heavily imports beans from Burkina Faso which passes through Niger to get to us. In Lagos alone over 2000 cows are slaughtered daily. Most come from Niger. Leathers, Steel, Rams. Niger produces 1million tonnes of Onions yearly and we import @mentions • • • |

Who has ever heard of this voodoo Kano-Katsina-Maradi Corridor Master Plan, which didn't exist until Buhari took office in 2015? Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi gave one set of justification yesterday. Garba Shehu has come out today to give a different set. You people can keep lying to yourselves. Aba and Onitsha alone generate over 100 times more import/export economic volume than the entire Niger Republic. And they pay thier import duty unlike Niger that always asks for huge duty waivers. Why is Buhari's govt not rushing to construct railway to those places if leveraging economic gain is the motive? |

I am worried! Soon after sources emerged from different news outlets that Nigeria and Niger Republic have struck an agreement to build rail train between the two countries, the presidency has debunked the claim it was building rail train into Niger republic. In an article from withinNigeria.com by Adejayan Gbenga on September 24 title “Nigeria not constructing rail line to Niger Republic, “the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Garba Shehu, said the agreement was reached between Nigeria and Niger in 2015 for the Kano-Katsina-Maradi Corridor Master Plan (K2M). Why has the presidency rushed to debunk this story? I think I know why. And here is that reason: Don’t get me wrong, the economic objectives outlined in the proposed plan will be very beneficial to both countries, but the risks are frightened when Nigerian people get know them. Northern Nigeria is the hot bed for the Islamic group---Boko Haram, a group bent on destroying Nigeria at all cost. Boko Haram militant activities—which has led to the killing of thousands of Nigerians have not been defeated. In fact, BBC news report said over 30, 000 people have been killed over the past ten years and estimated 3 million people driven away from their homes, since the start of operation in 2009 This trail line when is finished, will open a new corridor to Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations to expand their territories. That means more deaths to Nigerians and destruction of property And this train line when completed is going to connect Niger Republic to Northern states of Nigeria. The federal government of Nigeria, perhaps just revisited this issue today and rushed out to calm down public concern. Believe me, I am nervous! I will in future expand on this story--------- 1 Share

All what u propagate on social media come from ur churches, planted from there and instilled into ur mind to nurture, spitting it everyday, u dnt tolerate others, u always like propagating hate speeches. Is it not bigotry that make u hate PMB? OBJ and GEJ are Christians, they served for 14yrs, now PMB is serving as a Muslim for jst 5yrs of 2nd term and u're restless. What happened in those 14years are still happening in different form. What is there in Anambra? Boasting mediocrity. PHIPEX: Amaechi is the minister of transport, yet the Portharcort, Enugu, Makurdi rail line is lying useless. The area with the biggest importers in Nigeria aside Lagos. Perhaps he is pleasing his master so that he will become the anointed in 2023. The same pleasing game that Goodluck Jonathan did and failed in pleasing the north.. They will never learn. They have built Abuja rail, now building Lagos Ibadan, if you ask them what of South East, they say Niger bridge when we know Niger already has a bridge but it's only over used. 2nd Niger bridge is used by outsiders who come to the east to work or do business. From, Abuja, Edo, Lagos, Benin. Many easterners I know have only seen Niger bridge in pictures. At least half the population. Amaechi 2nd Niger bridge is of no benefit to the east. Rehabilitate the Eastern rail line.. 1 Like |

Ever heard of Kaita? Its a border town with Niger Republic its where the NNPC recently announced that International Oil Companies have chosen to donate 21 billion Naira to build a hospital, it is also coincidentally the community where staff housing for the proposed refinery will be situated. It is 3 km to the Nigeria Niger Border. Ever heard of Agadem, it is an oil field in Niger Republic from which the Nigerian authorities intend to source the crude oil for the proposed refinery. Ever head of Mashi, it is a community near Kaita, also close to the Niger Republic. It is the location for the refinery being build by the Buhari govt Katsina. If you didn't know, for the past five years, by an executive order from Abuja, Kaduna, Warri and Port Harcourt I and II refineries have been shut down. Not because something got spoilt, or pipeline got broken, for no justifiable reason, all the refineries were made redundant,. Yet the timeline to complete the Mashi refinery is 2021. Remember Ibe Kachikwu the then Min of State for Petroleum wrote an open letter that the acting President Yemi Osinbojo and himself were being sidelined by the late Abba Kyari in collaboration with the late Maikanti Baru as they were taking memo's directly to Buhari in his sick bed in London for approvals after officially handing over the reins of government to the VP, when they feared that he was going to late. It was approvals for the AKK gas pipeline project. To convey gas from Escravos through Ajaokuta to Abuja Kaduna and Kano. The project has been reviewed to take a detour through Katsina to Niger Republic Border. Ever heard of Idi Umoru, he is Fulani from Niger Republic, in 1984, he contested against Aja Nwachukwu an Ibo from Nigeria for the position of Secretary General of the Organization of African Unity. Guess what? against pleading from Julius Nyerere of Tanzania and Jomo Kenyatta, Buhari voted against his country Nigeria for the man from Niger Republic. Yesterday, there was an outrage at the announcement that a contract for the sum on $1.9 billion had been awarded for the construction of a Rail line from Kano, through Katsina, to the Nigerian/ Niger Republic border. Do i still need to connect the dots, or are you now able to read between the lines. Is Look We Dey #copied# |

Coronabirus: No the issue is that so far during Buhari's tenure we have only seen infrastructure development for the North. From huge investment into Maidgaduri Abuja to Kaduna line Katsina road funding Kano road funding Heavy electricity power investment in the north Gas pipeline project to the north By contrast in the south all we have seen are minor projects in the south west, their reward for voting APC Lagos to Ibadan line Car Park around Apapa port No infrastructure investment in the South or SouthEast Do you see the problem? |

mamaafrik:Chibuike Amaechi is a fool. All he thinks of is his personal ambition whereas those using him are thinking regional strategic positioning. How can you be comfortable to support the construction of a rail line in a desert region when non is existent in your own region which is economically more viable? Doesn't he know the importance of rail lines for defensive purpose? Why do we have dumb people like this? He claims to be Igbo but doesn't think strategically for the security of Igboland and the whole region of the SE and SS? God forbid bad thing! |

Coronabirus: I would wager that you hail from the North or have sympathies for that region. The fact is the scale of investment in the South East is miniscule versus the current scale of investment in the North. You are being very disengenuous to even pretend Buhari has invested in all regions of Nigeria equally. He said as much himself, to paraphrase him "why should I invest in the South East when they never vote for me?". Look if lopsided investment like this continues, Nigeria will break up. Was it not Buhari who stated that most aid should be directed at Maidgaduri and not other regions, what kind of message does that send?? |
