It's just hardworking and being book smart which is way different from being intelligent. I used to have a first class until my 300L when I decided to channel my energy to other things like making money, meeting important people and planning for my future . I dont regret that now.

The only girl with the highest CGP in my department does la cram LA pour and she is so good at it but there her some that are smart, they are all hardworking.

If they are intelligent, why is Nigeria still importing every item we need into this country, even matches despite the fact that we have thousands of 1st class degree holders. I think they are just smart. In Nigeria, just memorize your notes and maybe textbook and give them back to the examiners. The thousands of 1st class degree holders in Nigeria do not contribute to knowledge because they do not necessarily understand the principles of problem solving but they understand the methods of solving problems from their notes and handouts.

Well son, you don't have to be a genius to have First-class in a Nigerian university, in fact, most products of First-class are not geniuses.
The most brilliant student in a class most times doesn't end up being the best student.
Going a bit further, it also depends on the department and what it entails, school and some other factors.




You're almost very right but still, you don't have to be smart to have a First-class.
Having a first-class is more of hard work than intelligence or smartness.

Hard work in reading comes before any other thing. Intelligence and smartness are there to complement your hard work.
No matter how smart you're, if you're too lazy in reading and memorizing, you'd just kiss the first-class goodbye.
Reading and memorizing is one of the pillars of having a good grade in a NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY.

I'm currently researching on this issue. I conducted an online survey with about 50 respondents, out of which less than 10 ( about 6) were 1st class. The distinct features about them was against popular views; 1. They're smart (they identify and utilize opportunities than the average student) 2. They're not necessarily 'intelligent' but are hardworking. The whole thing is that they don't always have the good cards (i.e intelligence) but are good players (they're smart and hardworking) NB: My findings are not concluded yet and i'm still working on getting more respondents

I have never understood the need to be the best at anything. For me, that's too much pressure, and one that I wouldn't want to subject myself or my children to. People who believe they are the best often lose their identity trying to live up to that role. This can be exhausting and leaves little room to excel in other aspects of life.

I am very comfortable being one of the best as opposed to 'the best'. This way, I get to have the best of both worlds, knowing that I am one of the geniuses and happily living my life as I so wish.

It's not only by hours of reading, because I know of some mates who don't read much, at most three hrs a day and they hit 4.5.
Theres nothing like genius in the world. Just mastery of key essentials in a relevant field, either by luck, privileged information or repetitive processes especially reading past questions.

I knew I wasn't better than some persons in my class, but I channelled my thoughts to studying in a unique way that none of them ever knew which made me outstanding. I ensure to use there strategies and ideas and mine. Knew what they know but they never knew what I know. I was very competitive, steps ahead. And above all GOD'S grace

First class students are bunch of academic slaves. They don't have a life of their own asides from course context. Very boring folks.

They do nothing but read, read, read. No wonder most of them in Nigeria graduate with ulcer
