I graduated with first class in Elect Elect last year, lemme humbly weigh in;

1. The Grace of God is first and foremost in my achievements.

2. I was super super curious,I loved solving problems, researching in the library and the smell of books.On the day of my matriculation I caught this pride of a genuine scholar and I made a personal vow to develop into the very best scholar I could possibly be.
Henceforth I never went for holidays,I always stayed back and covered the 3 and 4 credit units courses for the coming semester and then layed a solid foundation for the 2 unit courses;While still renewing my matriculation vow every session.

3. I don't know if I'm intelligent,genuis or whatever but I know that God gave me understanding and the ability to work extremely hard and be favoured.
All I can say is Grace saw me through;
I graduated with a 4.69 CGPA,my lowest GP was 4.30(2nd semester 100l) and I had 5.0 in my two final semesters in school.

Using myself as an example, the only thing is
Knowing myself and having discipline. I was the best graduating student.

Intelligent wise, I'm most intelligent than my peers but its because my peers are dumb not because I'm intelligent.

I score high in self control and I use my time efficiently.

Will they make it in life? No, many will fail in life and I have removed myself from this group of people, I have noticed that most first class students are not woke, I have decided to be woke

I'm just gonna use myself as an example, I didn't graduate with first class but I graduated with 4.44.

So first thing first, some people are gifted upstairs, yes they are gifted cos I easily understood a topic far much more than most of my colleagues and I end up conducting tutorial classes for my coursemates.

But being gifted is just one part of the story, these guys read a lot, personally I always make sure I finish any course five times before any exam, yes I wasn't exaggerating, I will always finish a particular course five times before the exam date, which means if I have 10courses in the semester, I'll finish my courses 50times, though I can't read all five times each but at least I do finish the least course twice of thrice, and after exam, I end up having a G.P.A of 4.7, 4.6 or even 4.8.
Most people don't really know how to read, just like in my 100level first semester, I attended night class almost everyday but got a C.G.P.A of 3.57 cos i didnt know how to read then in my second semester I decided to set a target of 4.4 but ended up with 4.17 and since then, I have never gotten anything less than 4.0, my least GPA was 4.10 in my 200level.
in conclusion, first class students are either gifted or have a good background already before they got admission and after that, they set a target and try to achieve it.
So whatever u do in life.
1.set a goal
2. get to work
3. stick to it
4. achieve ur goals, very simple

Simply put ; a lot of student can graduate with first class, but only those who are motivated by something or by themselves and values the honor (first class), works harder and smarter for it(first class.

Fist class is not just about hardwork, cramming, natural intelligence or smartness, it is about what drives u, ur motivation. This is what determines how hard & smart you work, which inturn determines ur result.
Some graduate with first class because ,
1.The reward; they must have been promised something amazing by their dad or relative or becos of high job, or prestige.
2. The family may be such that holds education & good grades to high esteem, so they do everything possible to make their family proud of them.

I had 3 friends who made first class. What they did were:

1. They get all the materials at the beginning of the session
2. At the middle of the session they already answering past questions. They usually use it as a guide in studying.
3. They never miss a night class.
4. They always come early to class, hardly miss a class.
Is all about hardwork.

School non be scam, if you come out with good grade and study the right course. They are all doing well now.

I would have preferred if the first-class graduates speak for themselves. When many people who did not finish with a first-class start talking about these things, it dilutes and defeats the purpose of the thread. I believe many want to learn.

I had a first-class semester GPA (4.72 out of 5.00). So I think I am slightly qualified to contribute here.

An important aspect is to study the lesson notes (and understand them) as quickly as the lecturer teaches them. Don't wait until exams. Understand, then memorize. Don't memorize before understanding. Also, even importantly, if you are confronted with an exam, understand the question and don't just jump to answer. The only edge I had was that I went beyond what was taught in class. In subjects where I understood the topic presented, getting an A was easy. In subjects where I didn't particularly understand, I struggled to get a B or C.

Abroad (I also studied in Germany), the professors are super-strict and getting a first-class (distinction) is not as easy as many would like to think. What you need to make a distinction is thorough understanding of the subject. Also a significant aspect of training abroad is oral presentations. I got a distinction in all my orals because I did what other students did not do: I used humour in my presentations even when discussing important scientific matters (I wouldn't advise anyone to do it, I am just sharing an experience).

And an aspect that can help anyone is humility and strong relationships. Be quiet. Listen, listen and listen. Don't let your mind wander. Have a good relationship with your supervisor. I saw a guy make a distinction because his supervisor was the dean of the faculty and even though three persons needed to vote to award the distinction in the thesis (which determined if he got a distinction overall), no one dared challenge the grade awarded by the dean.

It most times take grace.

I run my own ICT centre Thanks to my tricks, Luck and Some connections I've not reached where I want to but I'm damn Successful on Nigerian standards, I'm still moving and I'll (must) get there. 2. Have ability to memorize
3. Attend ALL lectures
4. Do and submit assignments on time
5. Have self awareness
6. Know when, where and how to read
7. Are dedicated, motivated, persistent, etc
8. Learn to do things individually before consulting friends, Google, lectures, etc
9. Sleep or rest
10. Read from the beginning of the semester
11. Understand (or try to) ALL concepts before moving to the next one
12. Ask questions whenever and wherever possible
13. Consult different materials or resources
14. Actively participates in other mental activities
15. Reduce distractions to the minimum
16. Great time management
17. Seeing test as also an examination (getting all the possible maximum mark in class)
18. Ready to learn and open to criticism
19. Passion for the course they are studying
20. They know what questions to attempt in examination (some questions are meant to be resected).


I can go on and on from personal experience.
