Hi people, I just graduated with a 2.2 in one of the sciences. (CGPA 3.3). I admit that was due to my carelessness. Recently, I have this strong ambition to become a university lecturer and rise to the peak of my career. Now, these are my concerns. What are the chances of getting a lecturing job (after I might have gotten my PhD) considering the 2.2 Bsc result? Or it doesn't matter once there are higher qualifications? Is it worthwhile to sit for JAMB again and start all afresh? I'm still in my mid twenties and the drive is high. I know I can do it, but is it necessary / worth it? 9 Likes 3 Shares |

Honestly I don't know. *Modified* One of my lecturer in school back then is a third class holder, today she is a Prof. and HOD of the department. To be a lecture you must have your masters. alternatively you can apply as assistant lecturer from there you will further to obtain your masters. .note you must obtain your master before you can start lecturing in class. 77 Likes 6 Shares |

IamDavid:It does not matter once you have higher qualifications, in fact, if you have lower class at undergraduate but persevere to have PhD and continue to be producing high quality research article, published in reputable international journals such Elsevier, springer, nature, science, etc, you will simply be the talk of town, people will be using you as good example of determined person and you will become a mentor to many students and others. Even if you have 3rd class, you can still be a lecturer provided you continue with PGD and MSc then you could be employed as a lecturer. 91 Likes 5 Shares |

IamDavid:Don't mind that guy! Please do not waste your time starting over, instead go for your MSc immediately. While doing your MSc, make sure you learn how to make academic publications in reputable international academic journals, do not waste your MSc project by not publishing it. Publications will give you edge over others during interview. After the MSc try your luck at some institutions. If there is no luck and you have the means, continue to PhD, but make sure you keep publishing even on your own! 134 Likes 12 Shares |

[color=#006600][/color] IamDavid: I am presently pursuing a pg (MSc) program in the sciences with intention of going into Academics. Will continue with Ph.D immediately as I pray to get absorbed as an AL if am through with d MSc program. Though I made a 2.1 for my BSc but what I will advise you is to go for your MSc instead of starting over afresh but put in your very best to come out with distinction if possible or at least 4.0 on a grade of 5.0 I have course mates at msc level came out with 2.2 in their BSc and doing well in their MSc program. Once you have your Ph.D, most people don't really care what grade you came out with in your BSc. But if you apply for an assistant lecturer position with someone that have the same MSc grade with you but with BSc 2.1, he maybe considered before you except you one or more publications in reputable journals than he or she does. Bottom line is that you go ahead with MSc and aim for excellent result/grade and work towards publishing in reputable journals plus God's favour. Cheers. 46 Likes 3 Shares |

Don't waste your time and resources on MSc and PhD unless you're able to get employed as GA or any other position in the university despite your grade. Postgraduate degrees are expensive and there's no guarantee that you'll be employed as lecturer even after PhD. It costs a lot of money to conduct research and to publish it! Where would you be getting all the dollars to buy reagents and to publish in international journals  As far as I'm concerned, MSc and PhD should be undertaken only by those who already have jobs or those who can readily get scholarship awards. Considering your grade, it'll be difficult for you to get scholarship. It'll even be better for you to apply for direct entry to a course you can readily apply to earn money after graduation. How do you do It? Just forge ahead. Do your m.sc and ph.d. All that matters is your commitment. A lot of those lecturers actually finished with that grade. As long as you are sure you have what it takes just do it. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Op, dont be discouraged! With 2.2, you can become a lecturer. I once saw one of my wicked lecturers CV With how brilliant he is, and how he insults us and talks about how unserious we are, you’ll think he graduated top of his class with a first class. Lo he had a 2.2 from a federal university, but had a masters before becoming a lecturer, now he has a phd. How did he become a lecturer? I dont know 1 Like |

2:2 is not a bad grade at all, I have a friend with such grade from federal University. After her NYSC program she went ahead for her MSC program in Arts discipline. She is currently working in ECOWAS parliament in Abuja. All what you need is prayers, commitments and network. This country is more than grade for someone to get a juicy job.
