You are in too much hurry to blame ASSU.

Are the following agencies on IPPIS
1. NNPC
2. CBN
This is where basic salaries run in several zeros. The highest paid university professor does not go home with up to N500,000.
Yes, FG should deduct tax BUT implement the concerns of ASSU.

Let them employ full time staff, there are lots of qualified people out there.
You seem not to understand that Universities are allowed to bring in Researchers from any part of the world into their university to facilitate SKILL and KNOWLEDGE transfer in cutting edge research areas. It's not about teaching! It's about sharing in expertise!

Eg.
The world's most acclaimed surgeon on brain surgery could be invited to spend 6months to one year to ABU. During that time, he would give several lectures, trainings and of course teaching both graduate and undergraduate students. With IPPIS, there is no provision for that.

Apart from that, there is no university in this world that has ALL her required manpower. Knowledge isn't domiciled in only one university

The N500,000 is a fact (as at before the minimum wage-im sure of this). If you know a Professor who earns more than N500,000 let us know. Only those on political appointment like the VCs earn more than that.

You just typed trash, how about you tell us how much chief lecturers, associate proffesors and professors are paid to be taxed above 50k?
I pay a tax of #18,350 monthly and it is indirectly proportional to my monthly pay and there is no harm in it. Do you even know how much a professor earns? How on hell does their tax render the minimum wage useless? Those who could complain of unfavourable minimum wage are those at the base of the payroll not the senior staff and officials. You should not pay tax at all then.
I can even swear you are just a wannabe staff, you don't know how the system works.
Now get off my sight and make the right complaints.

Actually na fight.
Does it make sense at all to talk about how much you are taxed without opening up on how much you are paid?
The assistant lecturers, other junior staff and co are the ones being probably underpaid and whatever benefits come out of this nonsensical strike won't even get to them. And that one was foolishly writing about professors as if na small money them dey collect.
Your reply to that guy sweet me die grin

He doesn't need to tell you how much Professors are paid. Get CONUAS circular and compute it yourself.

The salary ranges from 400 - 550k.

I am currently receiving salary through IPPIS platform. The only good thing about the platform is that the unnecessary deductions by school management has stopped. The truth is that this government uses the platform for their selfish interest. The kind of tax they deduct from worker's salary is very painful. Do you believe that chief lecturers pay more than 50 thousand naira taxes, even professors. The deduction has rendered the new minimum wage useless... completely useless.
its good to pay tax, that is if they will make good use of it

I work in a research institution similar to the setup in the university. Since the implementation of IPPIS, it had been IMPOSSIBLE to employ a single Adjunct or Sabbatical or Visitor to the complex.

Paying from IGR is just audio request. It is not possible. Only CBN, FIRS and co can afford that kind of money. Anyway, if FG like, let them reduce our universities to the level of worthlessness, it's their cup of tea.
Let the FG audit the account of Universities and bring them to book of they are found wanting. Those of us in the FG research institution CANNOT talk but ASSU can. Let their voice be heard

A Professor in Nigeria earns the most! According to the Nigerian salary survey, the approximate earnings of a Nigerian professors is from N4,508,349 to N6,020,163 per annum.
A Reader's salary in Nigeria starts from N3,091,221 per annum. Nevertheless, in some universities it can reach up to N4,455,506 for one year!

Divide N6,000,000 by 12 months. Then deduct TAX!
You have less than N500,000 per month for the highest paid professor in Nigeria

BTW:
I used to work in a UNIVERSITY. I left as a Senior Lecturer...I should know a little beyond hear-say!

If your take home pay is just 200k with that amount of deduction and you people are there, just keeping quiet, then I think that is what Baba90 called "suffering and smiling" embarassed

Bros not really as low as what you think, abi you want kill person. Lol

My total deduction is between 30% to 33% of my gross earning, is that okay and within acceptable range because I have not really bother to find out about Nigeria tax system.

But my counterpart in Nigeria own company with same pay are not paying as much tax as we do.

It is you who doesn't knw anything. The highest earning prof in abu doesnt earn up to 500k. Takes home nothing more than 450k after deductions. Govt is making this latest strike all about ippis when its barley 10% of the whole issue. An agreement signed in 2009 keeps being broken by govt and with each new mou signed they keep breaking it.

A vet professor earning that much is being economical with the truth. Vet doctors earn other allowances from hazard to call duty allowances which even animal scientists dont even receive. Basic pay isn't up to 500 bros. I would tell you to post ur P man payslip as proof he takes home more than 450k as basic but you wont. Salary and wages commission chart for universities is public information. No way in hell a prof takes home 500k as Conuass pay after tax
