Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma has been granted permission by FIFA to make his switch to the Super Eagles with immediate effect, reports Completesports.com.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick announced the good news on the social
media.

”Coach Gernot Rohr might be a bit light in the middle. However, I’m extremely happy to announce that @FIFAcom has just granted Hoffenheim defender and former German U-20 national team skipper Kevin Ufuoma Akpoguma permission to make his switch to Nigeria with immediate effect,”Pinnick tweeted on Monday night.

The centre-back recently disclosed his intention to switch allegiance and represent Nigeria at senior level.

The 25-year-old represented Germany at youth level playing for the U16, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U21 teams.

Akpoguma was the captain of the German U-20 team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Maybe partially but looking at the full story I know now, I really cannot fault Rohr. He had a right to choose to keep observing Eze. It is not as if Rohr wasn't working on the team all that time. He clearly was but was taking the time to also see Eze from a distance. Club performances doesn't always mean you will hit it big with the NT. Also, it wasn't as if Eze was outstanding since 2017. He was not. He only truly broke out in 2019/2020. Nothing really outstanding about him in 2017/2018 or in 2018/2019 so Rohr was right to keep watching.


And yes, Eze made the regret statement this year in a podcast with Nedum Onouha but he was referring to the time he was called to camp with Nigeria in Barnet. He said after he joined up with the England U-21s (which came after turning down Nigeria's approach last year before the Brazil game) that he felt more drawn to the English and that he would have regretted picking Nigeria back then when he trained in Barnet with us.

So if that doesn't tell us something, I don't know what else will. Perhaps Rohr dodged a bullet. His heart was just never with us. Finito.

After the world cup, we added a couple of players in attack and defence: Kalu,Onuachu,Ajayi.. but the midfield was ignored.. We were stucked with Mike,Ndidi, Etebo,Ogu,Iwobi and the regular old boys Agu and Agbo...
Coupled with Iwobi's occasionally lack of consistency,Eze would have been a solid addition..

England system is very complicated even thats just the protocol even rohr attest to this during aina switch.

You keep shouting years as if it is 20yrs or even 5 yrs. Eze only has one outstanding season in the Championship and that was in 2019/2020. When else was he outstanding?? Please answer me.

Rohr was right to observe. And Rohr rightly reached out to him with some folks last year in the course of the 2019/20 season with Eze doing well and this was just before the Brazil game but he turned us down and went with England U-21s.

Eze has also said he would have regretted choosing Nigeria even as far back as March 2017 b'cos after he joined up with England U-21s last year being 2019, he said he felt more drawn to England than to Nigeria who he trained with in 2017. That is a gap of two years and see what he said about that a year later.

So please... Eze can wait for his call-up from England. It won't bother anyone b'cos he has already said he would have regretted picking us. I would have loved to have him but you cannot force a lad whose heart was not with you from the very beginning.
