Thanks immensely.

Help Guys,
My program was to start in May with my appointment scheduled in March.
Please, I don't know how to start up things again.
Should I request for new I-20 form from my school, then request for new admission letter?

They actually replied you correctly. You cannot submit photocopies. Your question could've been; will electronically issued I-20 suffice?

It seems the Abuja Consulate is actually responding to people and not simply using automated messages.

What's the deal with this Lagos one joor?

Photocopies is still right in the light of the emailed electronic copies but i should have nuanced it for proper understanding.
When you print the emailed copy it is still a photocopy

Please guys... I have a question that needs urgent answer. I'm going for a 3 years course in nursing for spring 2021. My passport will expire in 2022. I'm about to fill my Ds160 form but I'm confused on what they said about the 6months validity. Please, can someone explain this to me in clear terms. Thank you

What that means is that; it must be valid for atleast 6months from when you’re presenting the passport for visa. Even if it’s 6months from commencement of your start date (which is Jan I suppose), your passport is still very valid. You can always renew over there.

More like it. I sent similar email without such response. Thanks all the same. I spend close to 150 USD on shipping of I 20. This is good news

This is a f**king rip off and not fair in this period. Why did it cost this much? Did you request for any other thing because I paid 35USD before lockdown and recently to get mine through FEDEX.

Goodday All!
So I decided to shoot for some PhD admits, sent some mails to potential supervisors some days ago. The below is the reply I got from one of them. I have read it thoroughly and understood some of the contents.

Please someone with similar experience/understanding should help with a broader interpretation.

Dear Kelvin,

I usually apply for grant funding like others which is accepted or rejected at all times of the year.  Therefore, my personal research funding for graduate research assistants differs In addition, if the students I am currently supervising are doing a good job, I continue their research funding before I take on new students.  At the moment, I have no money to offer additional research assistantships, though some grant proposals are pending.  When I decide to take on new graduate students, I do so on the basis of the best applications of applicants who apply to our program and have similar research interests to mine.  This process starts with an application to our graduate program.  Without letters of support, resumes, and other documents. I have no idea how to evaluate the academic potential of those who contact me.  Thanks for sending a resume. I can see that you strive for academic excellence! Our deadline for applications for Fall Semester 2021 admission is January 29, 2021.

The Program also has teaching assistantships which are awarded on a competitive basis from our applicant pool.  Next year we should have a few available. These usually involve funding for three years.  Other professors, and faculty from the research institute also have funding available for research at different times. Hopefully this information helps a little.

1. I feel he is a good person..Lol. Generally speaking
2. He prefers to continue sponsoring his current PhD students doing well to taking up new ones
3. He currently doesn't have extra money to take in and sponsor a new PhD student. Although, he is awaiting the result of some grants proposal he has written.
4. He can not take in student via email. It is hard for him to judge because he would prefer to consider candidate's full application package.
5. Furthermore, he prefers to select his PhD students during the admission process. He basically selects the best students whose interests align with his.
6. He praised your academic excellence and advised you apply to the school. Then may be you can be among the best guys with similar interests with him
7. He said few TAs spots might open up against Fall 2021
8. You can contact other faculty in the dept, they might have funding.

That's my take on the email. I am sure there would be different views from the bosses here.

Goodluck!

The Nigerian bank charges are killing bro. My school insisted it must be shipped through a route- one Global something ... which interface with 3 courier companies among which you have to choose. You pay these guys and they settle the courier of your choice

I guess you saying may 2020 which has gone for good.

Just tell your school that you want to defer your admission for spring 2021 or Summer 2021 or fall 2021 and a new i20 will be issued for you with a new program date as well.

Well I think you can still meet up with spring 2021 if you make the call this week and start the processing

If you can tell your school send you scan copy of your i20 or send you your sevis number and school code, you can use that to book appointment and fill ds160 and generate coupon payment for sevis fee while you await the original copy of the i20 to arrive to your door step in Nigeria.

If I'm asked how I will fund the second year, can I then let them know my study plan of completing my program in one year?

Admitwithschola, I saw a post about you and your friends helping guys with 320+ GRE score by returning some of the fees. I will like to ask if that offer is still up. I have written my GRE, and I had 324, I wouldn't mind getting help to finance my TOEFl because my NYSC allowance I am currently using for it is kind of stretched thin now. Any Nairalander who also will like to help me in any possible way, I will be grateful, thank you.
