An average home monthly expenses:
Dstv 12k
Internet 20k
Maid 20k
Light 15k
Food stuff 150k
fuel 30k (assuming you have 1 car)
Total: 247k
No Rent, pocket money, School fees, tailor, Health, helping relatives or any luxury expenses. A lot of homes run on insha ALLAH because how much is the man earning? Keep in mind not everyone will have a white collar job or a thriving business. But these young folks will come online and tweet rubbish because they’re so out of touch with reality.

Feeding is quite expensive and people often overlook it and call it 'just food' it gulps plenty money especially now that everything is annoyingly pricey. angry

So I am not surprised seeing 150k above as feeding expenses for the month. It much more than that for families with more children and infants.

The annoying part is if you try to cut costs on some aspects of feeding it must affect the quality or quantity.

Lol, how many homes are spending 247k a month based on this list though? Very funny cheesy

This one is for people who want to do big man/woman, which is not a bad thing if you have the financial flexibility.
However for a budget family, that list above can be trimmed down...

DStv 12k – This is unnecessary especially when you spend most of your day at work...unless you nor get work, and in which case, there's definitely no need. I mean who will watch all the channels on a 12k DStv bouquet when they are hardly home? The house na hotel?
There's a compact family bouquet for less then 5k with enough quality channels (sports, cartoons, news, series, movies, educational).

Internet 20k – Obviously for people who are always on Instagram and YouTube watching videos wey no concern them. 20k will give you 110GB on MTN for one month, even more on other networks.
Tell me one profitable thing that a busy man/woman who isn't into any online business will be using all this data for in a month?

Foodstuff 150k – Let me leave this one for women, only una know the food wey una wan use 150k cater for in a month, and for how many people.
Unless you're implying that couples who are making a combined income of say 200k are not eating properly, or those earning a combined 300k are using half of it for only food abi... Mehhhhhhh!
One wise man be don talk say belle nor be show-glass.

Fuel 30k – Depending on your car engine's type, and how much time you spend driving around (you're not doing Uber o), this can also be reduced.
Nor be every time you go dey run AC, and please stick to buying cars that will conserve fuel. Comot eye for V6/V8 and luxury vehicles dem.

Deliberately left out expenses on the maid and electricity, as these can be fixed and may not be cut down.

Summary: If one has the income to support a 247k monthly expense bill, please go for it.
The ones who like to act like big man/woman with their less then 300k a month income, you better receive sense and be guided...

Well said.
People should try Gotv. Honestly.
My mum was telling to buy a tv and Dstv. I told her I don't watch tv anymore, unlike when I was younger.
The only thing that brings me to tv is football. And streaming has taken over so, nothing concern me and tv for now.
People should learn to, Live within their means and cut out unnecessary expenditure.
And even if they have the means, throwing away money is wrong.

MTN has a N5k internet bundled for 30Gb. Except you mean N20k for the family.

N150k for food per month must be for a very large family.

Food is now very expensive however, this post COVID-19 world is time to cut costs.

Things can twist and turn at anytime.

What rubbish are the young folks tweeting though?

Doesn't have to be GOtv sef, although it's still a good choice. I personally don't fancy it for its limited functions.
But then even with DStv, I see no reason to pay for a bouquet with over 200 channels whether the money is available or not. It's completely ridiculous.

I can't remember the last time I tuned into/watched more than 3/4 channels on DStv in one single day.

Loool how, after buying in bulk to gain some small change what else? Reduce quantity/quality, I am not even talking about anything extraordinary , just basic healthy meals oo.

Almost everything is double the price now.

You are a guy joor you won't understand until you go out there to buy these stuffs, you won't even know feeding gulps much until you add everything up to the last kobo.

If someone comes to ask me which should he/ she choose between paying a rent of 300- 400k and taking care of feeding for a family of four/ five I will advise the person to choose paying rent. At least you will gather money to pay rent once, chop money - you no dey pay am finish

Rent of N400k per annum is a steal than feeding in this Buhari's Nigeria.

Rent of N700k is more like it.

And baby girl, still go for the rent angry

Good you mentioned work, meaning there's an income coming in to cover spending such amounts on data.

Basically more or less the same amount one would have spent for transportation/fueling if they were going out to work everyday, so it makes sense..

Other than the above situation, and if a person is not making money from the internet yet spends so much on data, they better reorganize their lives.

It is not by income again.

I was shocked when one oga resumed office because WFH is too expensive after comparison.

20 mins drive to and fro work and feeding is cheaper than running diesel/fuel for 24hrs a day.

Add data to it.

Lool, yes buying in bulk is one of the tricks. Let me tell you one of the secrets my mum uses. You see tomatoes, my mum waits until it is the season for tomatoes and then she goes to the market very early around 7am. She now buys a basket or 2 of tomatoes very cheap, grinds it and then dries the tomatoes, it serves us until the next tomatoes season. Similar with dry fish and stock fish, in fact we have a whole sack of them in our freezer at home. the same for most of the other foodstuff. Mind you, we have two deep freezers.
So while buying food stuff in bulk is one of them, timing is another and other cost cutting measures which i don't know about. So my initial reply still stands. wink

Abeg how does she dry the grinded tomatoes? Abi you meant boiling till all the water dries

grin grin grin At your 2nd bolded I was actually waiting to learn another trick.

The truth is its like all the tricks our mothers taught us are not working with the overinflated price of stuffs.

Okay lemme gist you small, yesternight our transformer hiccupped and they sent a watsap message on the CDA that one fuse did something and that testing unit of EKEDC will have to come and ascertain if its safe to reconnect, as hubby shared the chat with me, my heart did gbim gbim (my freezer ooo was what was on my mind).
We hardly put on gen because of the stable light, today someone has come to service the gen. ( costs money) by tomorrow morning the ice will have melted away, and we have to preserve the foodstuff , its petrol ( which was not budgeted for) we will use to run gen in the evenings.

Which account will that one go to now?

Washing the tomatoes and packing in ziplock bags would keep it as long as possible (provided there is light/constant gen).

Ah the normal grinder, that big one that makes so much noise, the one that the woman would be using stick to force the tomatoes inside grin

For the bolded, that one is no longer about foodstuff management, that is something else. grin grin

But what i can say is, if ice in the freezer melts after one day, maybe the freezer needs to be changed(i know it would cost money, but it would serve you better in the long run).
the small chest freezer i have here, it stays for 3 to 4 days before the ice melts completely.
