We have recieved more equipmets from various sources as confirmed by the COAS

'These include the VT4 and FT1 tanks, the KIA light tactical vehicles as well as the proforce PF2, SH2 and SH5 self-propel artillery guns''

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/418788-nigerian-army-takes-delivery-of-more-equipment-buratai.html

I said it here weeks ago that we are getting some equipment from S-Korea, but I was called names. Now, we see in the article that we got vehicles from S-Korea. And that is not all from whai I hear.

Unusual, because we do not buy equipment from them before now. But they have some good stuffs.

They mentioned that they've established a drone command for the Army.

Listen well bro. He said- "UAV command for Operation Lafia Dole".... Not for the Army, but for the NE theatre of operations.

We do not know whether the Army or NAF would operate it. But the NAF are getting new drones soon and have a pool of skilled drone pilots to operate the drones. The Army has none.

So, I think rightly that the new NAF drones might form the command they are talking about.

He did NOT say UAV command for the Army. But for Op. Lafia Dole.

NAF has her own drone Command.
NA has a drone unit in the NE which operates Small mini drones.
NA is building an Aircraft hangar in Borno according to COAS will accommodate bigger drones.

Sorry I meant to say his Sibling passed away and that set him back.
He does have health issues .

Gods, sorry to read this; some months ago or late last year he tweeted on a close member of the family that had recovered from some ailment and he was giving thanks to god and people tweeted to see with him. I didn’t realize he had lost his brother since. If you’re more able to be in contact with him than the rest of us public, please send condolences and I’m sure the rest here feel similar to me. And thanks for taking time to inform.

the thing that is paining you is
1. It's turbo prop
2.its gonna take long to get all delivered ( obviously every one is upset about it even the CAS is trying to make sure there's timely delivery)
Times with number have I said the $600mil (which I don't think it's up to that amount) covers other areas not only for the Aircraft.
Also your alternative of 50 drones nahh I won't take it. Are we deploying them in swarms or what.what are we using 50 Loong wing drones for.
Even the 2000 ifv or Afv and others you mentioned are like waste. we're not at war with any country.
With the right tactics and Thinking on the field even guntrucks and mraps will do the job.
Look how the chadians operate less equipped than us but(According to you) uprooted iswap from their territory in months

What's my issue
1. Over priced i have done comparison analysis to prove and substantiate my view
2. Not best value, limited impact in this attrition war with a fluid enemy.
3. Better alternative options.
4. Use of NATO munitions not sustainable. Check cost of one BAE Systems rockets, incompatibility of non NATO munitions
5.Delivery time 6 years is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

Wing Loong II UAV available in the HERE and NOW.

Chinese don't publish costs, but what is certain Chinese precision weaponry is far less expensive than USA sourced munitions. We will find that the Chinese ATGM are probably on par with the USA ( NATO ) rockets.

Consider this we have 50 Wing Loong II UAV's each can give you ISTAR coverage 24/7/365 over the entire area of contention in the NE and beyond.

It mean it will almost be impossible for BOKO to carry out an ambush on our troops. Because there is oversight by the UAV.

That alone will reduce our casualty rate by 95%.

What the $500 million we can get 3000+ multiple armoured vehicles platforms. New and some Used refurbished and yet very capable.

That means no longer will our precious combatants will be driving around in soft skinned pick up trucks and dumpers trucks.

Finally, transfer of technology we should be making modern assault rifles, encouraging the private sector to get into this industry.

There is Nigerian that works with arms industry in the UK designed missiles. We have the people but can we create the enabling environment.

This will be my last post on this Tucano and wing Loong issue..
We're here to learn right so nobody's forming I too know.
I'm not against the Wing Loong drones of course we do need drones.but 50 drones to do what bro I'm still curious if they can be deployed In swarms, bec because I don't see why we'll buy 50 wing Loong for $500mil(According to you) dude you've not even looked at the Cost of maintenance,Weaponry, Training of pilots, Training of maintenance crew, Spares e.t.c
You just budgeted 50 drones without with the whole money without looking at other things grin.
Now look at What the $400+mil covers for the Tucano deal
1.12 Aircraft
2.Spare Parts
3.Training of pilots
4.Training Maintenance crew
5.Large amount of Weapons for both training and actual combat
6.New Facility for The Aircrafts at ACTG niger state( They will still pay contractors building it o grin)
7.Flight stimulator

Now the Tucano is a beast compared to the Wing Loong agreed?
There are a lot the Tucano has to offer than Wing Loong better still we still need the drones They're unique in the very own way wink
The only problem we're having is the delivery date.

I think I'm done with the Tucano debate.
Others should share ideas naw.why is it only me and Chairman here grin

Is this some wish list? And why put this on nairaland. Assuming this was a real purchase document by the Min of Defence, you would put it on nairaland. Could get you in trouble.

This is the reason no one will ever know my source. Smh.

The empty one has put it on Twitter, without being sure of its genuineness.

I know for sure the NAF is not buying any more Alpha Jets. The CAS himself indicated the difficulties in sourcing spare parts.
My guts tell me this is a fantasy wish list.

But The money used in purchase are public tax payers money so the public have the right to know how military budget is being spent.

The Pentagon does this. how much more Nigeria ministry of defense.

The ministry's budget is also open for all to view. I look at budgets often, so that is no big deal.

But there is some risk in putting anything online. Just weigh properly b4 putting stuffs online.

dopeness of life...
hopefully the UAV champions will take this as a win... grin because it is a win....10 CH4's(if confirmed) will greatly improve situational awareness for personnel on the front line. 30-40 hours loiter time cool, with precision weapons (AR-1 or AR-2) should reduce the instances of ambush suffered by military personnel. We need more though, at least 40 - 50 of these; 10-15 always operational 10-15 as standby(take over from operational UAV's after 1 month; maintenance schedule) 10-15 for external engagements(coastal/west Africa/Sahel) 10-15 for continuous training, eventually no military patrol team/ strike team in Nigeria should leave base without the cover of a designated UAV ready to be re-directed to specified coordinates. Although we need many more small and specialized tactical UAV's, for example: tethered drones for base perimeter security, the super camps have made bases a lot safer but having tethered UAV's in camp to provide additional layer of perimeter security wouldn't hurt.
Now, talking about one weak link we will definitely encounter with using these drones: precision munitions; the military needs to start looking at ways of reverse engineering the AR 1 missile that they got with the CH3 drones, they definitely will been acquiring more air to ground missiles along with the new purchase of the Ch4 UAV's but judging from the videos released by DHQ about 70% of the strikes are dumb bombs, they are accurate enough but boosting the level of precision strikes to 60% will greatly increase the efficiency of the CH4 platform. AR-1 missile should and must be reverse engineered, the newer and lighter AR-2 should also be looked into. AR-1 is a replica of the AGM-114 Hellfire. The military need to cut down the cost of these precision munitions in order to strike even more effectively. MOU's between the military and technical colleges, private universities, steel/aluminum fabrication companies, private software companies should help speed development. Some of the components of an air to ground missile like the Hellfire or AR-1 include, laser seeker, rocket propulsion(military already has this figured out), guidance(motherboard, circuits, semiconductors and software) this section can be replicated using Raspberry pi or Arduino boards. The warhead section, well, they can figure this one out too. Point is once one is disassembled by a group of very curious engineers the smartest physics students working with capable software engineers, they should be able to replicate it using mostly off the shelf components; the replicated missile might be larger at first but so long as it works, they can figure out how to make the next one smaller. cool Nigeria has all the required professional personnel needed for a project like this.
