Fairheart, do you know any platform I can tender my GRE result to get some financial support? The NYSC fund I dey use is not enough, since it only drop monthly and I am trying to go for PhD which mostly close by December. Application fee and TOEFl are real financial burden for me now and I will like to know if there are ways I can make this dream of mine come true.

I can't think of any platform that can pay application fee for PhD students. I am sure there are several schools in the US that would waive TOEFL for you, lowering the cost of financing your dream to study in the US. Don't settle for schools based on what you think; expand and explore additional schools for your PhD program. As for application fee, how many schools do you want to apply to? If you are a competitive student, I hope you can settle for the best 3 from your list. Narrow down to schools that will not require TOEFL since you are a Nigerian and English was language of instructions throughout your academic years.

As expected! You are the second person sharing this, so you're not alone. I think the US embassy in Nigeria wants the Lagos Consulate to handle student visa interviews. Which means, Lagos will be releasing more dates or giving out more appointments from tomorrow and nextweek. If you have Spring admission, contact Lagos consulate and request for appointment. As e be so, na Lagos everybody go do interview grin grin

Was the interview date they gave you available on the portal to book online?

I got an email this afternoon from US embassy Lagos to schedule me for an interview on the 20th of October. I sent an email to the embassy on Saturday requesting to be add to their mailing list for any available date for visa appointment.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by fairheart(m): 11:47pm On Oct 08, 2020
Lagos consulate is currently responding to queries for appointment. In fact, it is like WhatsApp chat...even at 11:30, they are responding to emails, according to the student updating me.
If you need a date or previous one in Abuja was cancelled, contact them today or tomorrow.
However, note that once you fill that form and you send it, you must be on standby as you may be given date within the next 10 days or so. grin grin grin
This thing dey sweet...
At least every student will know that appointment is sure for them.

What else do you want them to say? There is no expedient appointment as we used to know. This form of appointment is email-based. They choose a single date for you, for which you must appear for interview. Don't expect expedient as of old whereby you pick any date then they release closer date for you to pick. That one no dey this time around. Also, Abuja have started referring students to contact Lagos consulate. I am getting the info as they share it.

If you need a date, contact Lagos embassy. They are even online as I write this message, responding to emails very fast.
Note, this is for SPRING 2021 APPLICANTS ONLY!!!

This date is ideal for Fall 2021 applicants, especially students who deferred from last fall.
For Spring 2021 applicants, you either contact Lagos consulate or wait. I am confident that more dates will be released once the first batch of students are interviewed tomorrow 9th of October.

So this bring students having their interview tomorrow to mind. Remember the interview rules:
1, As you approach the consular counter, relax yourself. Make sure you do not go in with tension as this will impair your mind from speaking flowly and confidently. I always say on this thread: interview is merely a conversation between the consular and the student--to assess your credibility for the F1 Visa. So, do all you can to be in a relaxed state.

2, Establish eyes contact with the consular. As you deliver your response to the questions, look into his/her eyes. Have a neutral countenance.

3, Listen! Some of you have not learned the art of listening in your everyday lives. Don't go to the embassy with this attitude! Listening is very, very important in having a successful F1 interview. As a student, if you can't listen, you can't grasp what you're being asked. By listening, I mean make sure you hear what you're being asked. Don't interrupt the consular if it is not necessary. There have been cases of students who did that and got refused as a result.

3, Speak steadily. Don't be fast if you're not used to going to interviews. By steadily, I mean not so fast, not so slow. Be in the middle. Give each response as smoothly as you can. Answer each question concisely. No story; don't talk about what you were not asked. The consular probably have other students to interview and there is no time. If everything goes as usual, this interview will not be more than 5 minutes.

4, Be yourself. This is where confidence comes in. In fall 2019, I coached a dude from this thread. He stammers but he didn't show this during our mock, but when he went for his interview, he was refused. Then he tried the second time, and was refused again. I was really baffled, but he told me he couldn't speak well during those two interviews because he was somehow scared, and so he stammered most of the time. So I suggested that if he will be applying again, he should tell the consular before the interview starts that he shutters. It is not your fault that you stammer, so tell the consular you stammers! As a human being that the consular is, he said he understand and that it is fine. This's his third attempt. This time, he wasn't even asked much questions, and his visa was approved. Predstan knows this guy.
So, be confident and be yourself. This is a human-to-human conversation!

5, Going with the confidence thing, wear what you're comfortable in.

6, I look forward to some good news tomorrow. All the best! grin

Lol

This post is very personal.

I have a stutter too and I've been thinking about whether I let the consular know or not, your post relieved me from some stress.

I'll keep it in mind when I need it, hopefully next month

This is exactly what the embassy wants: If you're not ready, do not contact them for appointment!!!
This is why they are not allowing any student to pick from the appointment website, as they know most students with far resumption date will not allow those resuming early to book. I also believe this is why they shut down the 6-day slots initially planned.
If you are not ready for interview, don't bother contact them as they will likely give you close date grin grin. When you are ready, be sure that they will give you date, even if it is in December. Right now, it should be clear to all of you that Lagos will be interviewing F1 applicants from today 9th of October.
When you are ready, they will give you a date!

Discuss in the email the message you received from Abuja, and then, indicate you'd like to be given an appointment date as your resumption date is so so.
Craft as necessary.

The question is an indication that your plan to study in the U.S wasn't absolute!

Jesus is advising you here: For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ (Luke 14:28-30 ESV).

Your education is a monumental part of your existence. If you prefer other countries to the U.S, follow that and follow through.
If you have started and you are still asking yourself that question, then you started without a resolve.
