Given up on seeing quality structures in this country especially with our roads... Every body with pink skin and long hairs are experts and they will come here and be doing all sorts of shody jobs. The fact that the ministry of works is flooded with a lot of very inept hands doesn't help matters as they can't monitor construction companies expertly... To have stuff like these in Nigeria, we really need to have a serious conference on roads constructions. It's not like the ideas being proffered are new, these are projects already in place elsewhere. . Here, we are still dealing with the thick black coal tars that draw heat and look too ugly when others have moved on... Lots of frustrating realities with the way things are done here..

it's so bad, of all African countries, the roads we celebrate here in Nigeria can't even stand international standard, esp road marking, signs, sidewalks etc

It slowly changing. These days in Nigeria most new roads in residential areas are built with sidewalks. Wasn't that way 15 to 20 years ago.

and construction companies ain't helping matters, they feel like, they can just do unfinished road construction, and get away with it.

in this modern conventional era, we still commission roads without markings, proper drainage, sidewalk, provision for traffic light, and other basic road signs.... even at our biggest cities, all these are not initiated on roads...

It must be standardized and enforced. Everything must be systematized so that it doesn't matter the leader , standards are met.
Now you are talking.

This is where we need the Nigerian society of engineers to be active.

Nice innovative ideas.. and there is something that baffles me about patching of roads in Nigeria... the patches are never smooth with the road; I don’t know if it’s against their working ethics to level the road.

This oga sef.

Let the roads connecting major towns be in good condition first before you start talking of widening city roads..

Potholes have not been treated. What sense will it make if inside Calabar city looks like what you posted up there, but going to Calabar from Ikot Ekpene is a death trap ?

Talking about widening city roads is important. It would help people that intend to buy property close to the road to factor into consideration the trend in the world and think through before taking a purchase action.

When another government comes in, the governor/president can decide to widen the roads. The owners of property around that axis most times suffer the loss.

Roads are cheaper to build in North than south because of the dry climate in the north and mostly wet climate and soft soil in the south which needs extra compaction.
