The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to the People Democratic Party's (PDP) claim that the commission is planning to undetermine the Ondo State gubernatorial election via appointing returning officer.

Acoording to Within Nigeria reports, PDP through its campaign council Governor Seyi Makinde had previously claimed that INEC appointed the vice-chancellor of the Obefemi Awolowo University (OAU) prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede for the job of collation of results.

Meanwhile, INEC through its national commissioner and chairman of information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye, on Thursday, October 8, said the commission has sole responsibility of appointing returning officers for elections in Nigeria.

Okoye noted that PDP and all political parties whose candidates are contesting the election have nothing to fear because "the collation officers must subscribe to the oath of neutrality and must exhibit the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct."

According to him, the collation of results after the election will be aired live for all Nigerians to see and comment on.

"The commission never has and will never share the responsibility of appointing collation and returning officers with individuals, groups or political parties.

“At the end of the election on Saturday, there’ll be a returning officer for the governorship election. The collation at the state level will be beamed live in the major networks, and the agents of the political parties will be present,” he said.

When you bring someone from Owo to arbiter/return a Governorship election with a main contender from Owo, it is everyone's business to demand higher neutrality.

It is their business and right since they are participating in the election unless INEC wants to act drama. The Prof. ought to gently resign because even if the PDP lose the election peacefully;They will still point accusing fingers at him

PDP already know they are going to lose, just laying the ground for serious wailing after their defeat.

INEC goofed.

They could have just pointed out if what PDP accused them of is wrong or correct.

They should simply have assured every party that they are neutral.

Their answer is very anti-PDP even if they have no intention of doing that.

INEC is an umpire and should learn how to pass information.

INEC is answerable to every Nigerian since they are the umpire in our election.

One can ask a Judge to excuse themselves if they feel they will not get a free trial.

The Judge do not come out to warn them, its either he does that, which many do and those who do not clearly explain and assure both parties that they intend be neutral.

How do you explain the fact that we can question our president for his choice in choosing the INEC chairman even when its his constitutional duty but you don't want anyone to question INEC choice of a state REC.

This would have still be my stand if it was APC that accused INEC.

If so INEC is fooling Nigeria.
Picking a RO from the same place a sitting governor and a major contender.

It is the duty of good Nigerians to advise you to choose good, indigenous and educated Representatives of their choice for them.

It doesn't make sense to pick RO from the same LG in which one of the contestants comes from...and the man is even friend to Arakurin Akeredolu...
Eyitayo is a gentleman unlike some contestants are who are violent...This is the beginning of rigging...
