Chapter one
Somewhere in Lagos City
Francis shuffled his feet. It can be a dull job, working as an usher. Apart from the lights which shone brilliantly inside the hall, everything was a bore. Of course he would not mind if he could get the connections he needed.
The cream of the political class in Lagos were in the building. Major players in business were also here. He needed to be here, to be noticed by someone. He is getting too old to write job applications.

" The new Nigerian Youth must be involved and engaged in the policies of the immediate future if we want to progress as a nation."

Senator Olamilekan's speech was making him feel slightly sleepy. He was not buying what was been sold. His eyes caught a young man signalling to him.
Gracefully, he walked towards the guest.
"Please can you direct me to the toilet."
He looked about and pointed to an opening at the end of the door.
"Please go through the door and turn left. Walk through the aisle until you get to the end. Then you will see the toilet."
"Please I will appreciate it if you took me there yourself ."
Francis nodded.
"Follow me sir."
As the young man stood up, Francis picked a sharp sound in the wind.
The man fell flat, blood gushing from his head.
Francis suddenly felt his feet fail him as he fell on the floor. The pandemonium around him was making it hard for him to process what was happening.
"Young man, Young man!"
He felt a hand on his leg and turned.
His guest was the person trying to drag him.
"Take this flash drive. Protect it with your life."
Are you kidding me? Francis said to himself. But he could not say that to the person asking for the favor, for he was in great agony. This flash drive must be important.
"Please take it. The future of Nigeria is in your hands."
Francis quickly picked it and with some energy, ran towards the exit.
Once there, he picked his bag and ran, ignoring the fact that he was in his uniform.

SOMEWHERE IN BANANA REPUBLIC
Colonel Mohammed took his cigar and extinguished it. He had seen the summit crash and burn, the major players in Senator Olamilekan and his P. A Mr Stevens Okeleke die, yet he did not have the report he wanted.
Turning his seat from the beautiful view of the ocean, he faced them.
"Tell me, how many years have I used to train you, Zero?"
"Five years my lord."
"Yet you failed me in this simple task."
"My lord, I beg for ........"
Twack!
Zero staggered, reeling from the effect of that slap.
"I don't want apologies. I want results, do you understand?"
"Yes, my lord."
"If i don't get that flash drive within the next three days, your head will be the least of your worries."
"Yes sir. We have tracked the whereabouts of the flash drive. Its with a simple civilian."
"Then why are you here? RETRIEVE THE DAMN FLASH!"
"YES SIR! PERMISSION TO LEAVE, SIR?"
He waved Zero away, facing the ocean.
Nigeria has been in the hands of these civilians for too long. We need to rescue it from them. We must.
He picked his phone, looked at it for a few minutes.
Must I call him? General will only want good news not bad news. But hiding this from him will be terrible.
As if on cue, his phone rang.
He picked it, his face grim.
"What is this that I am hearing, Colonel? You failed me?"
"We recorded some success, Senator Olami...."
"The Senator was a side mission, Colonel. The contents of that flash drive is very important. We must not allow the contents to be exposed to the public!"
"We are on it, General!"
"Then make it happen! If we fail, everything will be lost! My years of planning and taking all those insults from them bloody civilians will be for nought! Make it happen! Retrieve that flash drive!"
"Yes sir! What about the second phase of the plan?"
"It has already started. I have the Aide de Camp of the Minister of Defence in my payroll. We are going to start in the barracks at Kirikiri. Once we get rid of the scum there, we will target Lord Jaiyeola."
"Yes sir."
There was a minute silence on the line. The Colonel could not bring himself to end the call.
"Colonel?"
"Sir. "
"Don't fail me. Succeed in retrieving that flash drive and you will be a lord in truth."
"Yes sir!"

No light again.

Francis opened the door to his flat. Unlike most guys of his age bracket, he had managed to rent a three bedroom flat with two of his friends from the varsity.

Sodiq and Emma are not around as usual. Shayo things.

He sat down on the chair, then decided to take fresh air outside.

As he came outside, he removed his shirt, revealing his flat stomach well managed by hunger. He decided to take the 'Gala' he brought from a snacks vendor on the way home. As he munched it with a bottle of Mirinda, his mind floated to the events of the day.

Na wa o! Make man no die on top hustle! So all these politicians wey dey chop money fit just die like that! Come see as they dey japa!

"Ogbeni Francis! How you dey?"

Francis fell flat on the floor, stunned. He did not see Sodiq come in.

"Guy, wetin do you? Na Mirinda dey make you high?"

Francis stood up, dusting himself.

"I did not see you come in. Where you and Emma go?"

"Omo, I waka reach Iya Rukayat."

"For what?"

"To f*ck Rukayat na! Wetin man wan do for that house again?"

You see this life? I dey here dey worry about politicians dem, this one dey chase woman.

Annoyed for asking the question, Francis sat down and took a gulp of his drink. As he drank, power supply was restored.

Francis went inside and plugged a laptop while turning on the television.

The News that hit the airwaves was about the summit.

"Guy, no be the place where you go do usher work?"

"Talk like a graduate, Sodiq. I acted as a protocol officer, not as an usher."

"OYO for you! Na usher me sabi."

As the news continued about the deaths of Senator Olamilekan, Emma entered the house.

"So its true. Come, how you comot for that place?"

Francis turned his head to see who spoke.

"Emmanuel, welcome. How you dey?"

"I am fine. Thank God you are alive and here. Can I get the flash drive?"

Eh? Which flash drive?

Francis stood up and faced Emmanuel.

"Which flash drive?"

"The one Dr Steven Okeleke gave you. The man who said he wanted to use the toilet."

"Wetin dey happen here?" Sodiq asked, confused.

Good question. How did you know that I have a flash drive?

As Emmanuel was about to reply, something smashed the bulb.

As they bent down, a second bullet went over Francis, hitting the wall.

"I know you don't understand what is happening. But please trust me. You need to follow me now. Both of you."

Francis looked at Emmanuel's right hand. He was holding a pistol.

They observed him from a distance. They had to act fast before he sees what is on the flash drive.

They had first gained access to the security room with ease, disguising as fellos security officers. With the amount of uniformed personnel involved in the program, that was easy. The more difficult part was to put down other security officers, including members of the armed forces. They did not deserve that, at least not to them. But that was the instruction they were given.

They did that, then Zero started to take out the prime targets: Senator Olamilekan and his P. A. The idea was to kill them and allow Twelve and Thirteen to move in as medical attendants to check the status of the men and retrieve the flash drive. They never thought that the damn P. A will pass the flash drive to someone else.

But now they can get it back.

"Ten, when do we move in? We don't have much time. He may not be alone. "

"Hold on. We can not be seen, you know that's the order. It must be neat, with no suspicion of murder. Zero has said that we can use up to three days analyzing the situation before we move in."

"F*ck Zero! If we can go in guns blazing and get the flash drive, who will care? He is an ordinary civilian. At most we will cover it at the station."

"Nine! Don't do anything rash. Rashness will prove costly. According to Zero's findings, the guy does not even know whats going on. Moreover there is an ongoing investigation on thd deaths of Mr Senator and his P. A. We must not attract any more attention. "

"Damn it, Ten! He is alone! Lets take him out now!"

"Well, he is no longer alone, Nine. Someone has just dropped into the house."

"Keep watch, Eight and Nine. Remember, he wants a clean job."

"Zero is not our boss. Colonel is. Stop making Zero our lord."

"Keep watching." Ten cut off the call.

He took a swipe at his gin and waited. He knew that One to Nine despise Zero because of the way he is favored by the Colonel. But he knew why.

Zero was the smartest of them. He was the most careful of them. Most of all, his instincts are top notch. Those instincts were what he used to expose Two as a double agent and killed him. It was just unfortunate that Colonel trusted Two with those details.

His phone rang again.

"Whats the latest, Nine?"

"He has another guest. Moreover power has been restored."

"And?"

"You won't like what we are about to tell you."

"What?"

"His second guest is Two."

"What do you mean? Zero killed Two. We all confirmed the kill."

"Well, either we were all fooled or he has a twin. We know Two had nobody, so I will take the second option. However, there is no time for that. Two is talking to him."

Ten became tense. "Don't be rash. Just watch what happens there."

"Two knows everything. If he convinces the guy to give him the flash drive, we will be in serious trouble."

"I am going in!"

"Nine! Nine!!"
The phone call ended.

"Bumbling fools!" Ten quickly took his pistol and came out of his car. He called Eight's number.

"Where is Nine?"

"He has gone, Ten. I couldn't stop him."

"Sh*t! Why can't the fool be calm? I am heading your way."

Ten quickly ended the call and crossed the street before jogging down to their location.
He has to stop Nine from ruining everything.

Chapter two
12:00 am
Somewhere in Oshodi, Lagos City
Omo, which kin gbege be this? No be Emmanuel of yesterday be this? Abi na another person be this.

"Francis, I promise to explain later. But for now, just follow my instructions."

Francis looked at Sodiq for some consolation or at least for some indication of knowledge of what is happening.

This one don piss for body. See as he dey look.

He turned back to Emmanuel and nodded.

"Good. Now you must crouch and find your way to my room. Wait for me there. Sodiq, if you want to live, follow him and follow my instructions to the T."

Francis quickly moved towards the room, his mind roaming around as he did.

We never enter Emma's room before o! This one wey he allow us enter, hope we dey safe? He looked at his back and noticed Sodiq following him. At least I go ask this one question.

As soon as they were at the door of the room, Francis faced Sodiq.

"Guy, wetin dey happen? Which kind drama be this?"

Sodiq looked at him, balls blazing. "I know? No be you he dey treat like say you be God? Which flash drive him dey talk sef?"

Before Francis could muster a reply, Emmanuel came towards them.

"Enter the room, don't use it for a selfie." He said, snarling. With a quick hiss, he pushed the room open. Francis followed suit.

Emmanuel walked to the end of the room and pushed a section of the wall. It gave way and revealed a cache of weapons, including guns.

Chi! This guy dey carry gun o!

Emmanuel dragged him towards himself. He then picked a square looking object and pressed it to his chest. Immediately tiny dust particles started to surround his body.

"Don't panic. That's a bullet proof armour. You need to be safe. We need you to be safe."

Francis watched as Emmanuel took another one and pressed it on Sodiq and then did same for himself. With the three of them wearing such gear, Emmanuel led them out of the house.

Once outside, he started to feel for an object.

"Oga, nothing dey here!" Sodiq protested.

Francis and Emmanuel ignored him. Emmanuel soon dragged something open and voila, a car interior showed up.

Hmn, na was o! Abi na action film I dey watch?

"Quickly enter! We are leaving here now!"

Francis entered with no question, Sodiq following. Once they were in, Emmanuel drove off.

Five seconds later, their house exploded to bits.

Somewhere in Oshodi, Lagos City
He entered the minivan.

"Eight, where the hell is Nine?"

"He moved in, I tried to warn him but he does not listen!"

"Damn! He blows our cover! We have to move , now!"

Ten quickly brought out his pistol.

"Eight, stay here in case we need back up. If Two is really alive, then its risky for three of us to be in the same place at the same time."

Eight nodded, feeling his revolver at his side. Ten turned towards the house and started to move, calling Nine's number.

This idiot will get himself killed. Two was not easy to kill and if he is still alive by any means, he will be deadlier. Going in alone with just a pistol and no armour is the worst thing he could have done.

As soon as he reached the gate, the house exploded, throwing him backwards.

Ten suddenly found himself in a minivan.

"Where am I?"

"Good to know you are back. I need you here!"

He looked at the person speaking to him. His vision was blurry.

"I am three. Eight has taken a bike and is currently chasing our target. Four, Five and Six are enroute his current location. The idea is to block both exits. I need you sharp so that you can apply fire to his car."

Three? What was three doing here?

"Please what's the status of Nine?"

"Nine is dead. Eight called for back up and Zero has called the team together, all except One. Can you lift that revolver?"

Ten quickly picked the gun. It felt good in his hands.

"Yes, I am ready to go."

"Sure? I don't need blurry vision to hamper you. We must kill Two and bring back the flash drive."

Ten nodded and waited. The minivan soon arrived at a junction. Three waited.

What are we waiting for? Hey, Three what's....

He suddenly heard the sound of an engine from the right hand side of van. Ten narrowed his gaze.

"Shoot now!"

Ten immediately started firing at thin air, only that the air was now deflecting the bullets before revealing a sports car turning the other side.

"That's them!"

Three quickly started the van and gave chase, with Ten firing repeating rounds at them.

"Keep firing, Ten! We must keep him occupied so that he does not realize the trap quickly!"

Ten kept on the heat, causing damages on the sides of the car. As they kept on, he saw Eight with his sports bike. He raised a hand, Eight answering with a nod before taking shots at the car with his pistol.

Despite the barrage of bullets, the car kept accelerating, not even showing a dent.

"Damn! What's with the car?"

"Its a Z class car, complete with invisibility cover and retro-absorbent shield. It won't fall to our attacks, we are doing this to get the driver eng...... What!?"

Ten had only a few seconds to see the rocket coming towards them. As fast as quicksilver, He jumped out of the van and into the bushes.

The last thing he could remember was the sight of a burning van and bike.

On the road, Lagos City

So na how our house just go?

Francis watched the burning house grow distant as Emmanuel drove away. Sodiq looked furious.

"Oga, wetim we go tell landlord? You know say we never pay for that house?"

Emmanuel ignored him, focusing on his driving.

"Oga, answer us na! Even if you wan use us do rituals, you go at least tell us say our lives don peme!"

"Sodiq, don't disturb him. He needs to concentrate."

"Which stupid concentration he need? Na serious....."

"Shiiii!"

Francis was about handing Emmanuel a knock when he heard it too.

A bike heading their way.

"Listen to me. Stay on the floor of the car for now. This car is bullet proof but I don't know what else they will throw at us."

"At you! I was not part of this!"

"You are now!" Francis hissed angrily. Why this one dey behave like woman?

Soon enough, he started hearing the sounds of bullets. Francis stayed down while wondering why he was under attack. Who I offend for God's sake?

Emmanuel hit the accelerator and started to speed off. Soon enough, they had created enough gap between themselves and the assailant. Francis was about to raise his head in relief when he saw a person bring out a gun from a minivan.

"Emmanuel watch......"

Emmanuel quickly turned and diverted himself to another street, the minivan following. Francis and Sodiq saw the bullets hitting the back glass and bouncing off it.

The bike soon joined and both of them started to pepper the car with bullets. Despite all of this, nothing was happening.

"Guy, why we no use gun answer these guys?" Sodiq offered.

"You cannot handle a gun in this situation. Besides, I don't want to endanger Francis."

"What is in Francis sef that we no dey hear word?"

Emmanuel was about answering when he saw another van on the road. A RPG was staring in front of him.
