Hello guys. I've got to say this.

We've only got a bunch of average players in our squad. Save for one or two players.

This is a bitter pill we all need to swallow.

Personally, I'm struggling to imagine professional footballers who have been training and playing football for years getting jittery on the ball In a match. Despite the fact that they're only playing against an average team in just a friendly match. It's really sad.
Embarrasing.

This display today made me feel as if I was watching academy players. struggling to string passes together. Even to trap the ball. My god...

I never expected such from a team that is rated among top 30 by FIFA.

For a team "brimming with talents" and " foreign borns".

My top performers are
Ebuehi
Sanusi
Balogun
Okoye
Chukwueze
Kalu

There was no midfield today and going forward we were piss poor

Algerians usually pocket Chukwueze

Regardless of how much some of us don't like Etebo,we can't deny that he is still very useful to this team!!

Ndidi still has no real competition as far as I'm concerned, abi Idenna, how u see am? grin

Many highly respected members of this thread even said, and I quote, "Ekong is the only defender assured of his starting spot, Balogun, Semi Ajayi, Omeruo and Awaziem will fight for the other spot".

I don't know how some people watch football though, but as for me, I have never seen Ekong play good football as a defender. His game is just aimless clearances and wild tackles. Ekong as a defender is not disciplined enough to start in any Bundesliga club.

Sunday Oliseh noticed Ekong's wack game when he was our coach and placed him on bench but Rohr choose to make him Assistant captain with all the blunders he makes while playing for Nigeria

Points to note:

1. The team last played 11 months ago
2. Had training for 3 days before match
3. Several new players
4. Match was a test game with less emphasis on result (highlighted by the coach)
5. Our key players were missing

These points led to:

6. Low team cohesion, communication, and spirit
7. Exposed unwanted players
8. Identified our weak areas ( midfield and set pieces issue which hasn't been solved yet)

Well, the points above are no excuses for the shambolic display. However, we should note that today's match was fairly okay considering these factors. By the way, both teams were not impressive either.

Lastly, the technical crew still has a lot of work to do to bring the team back to order. So I agree with your point about Rohr. cool

PS: Tunisia beat Sudan 3-0 today. lipsrsealed

From a baby coach, I have discovered in my coaching sojourn thus far , that what u highlighted is in-born (can be taught but you go know say, na for school e learn am) .

Boss na today you dey watch this game.

I don dey tell them here say those German boys would need to prove to us that they are better

Am always saying it that a fit Balogun is better than any of our CB.I never rate Ekong but Rohr rate him dearly.

Akpoguma would be good addition to eagles so we can really say much of him now but fact still remains he is average CB just like Udohkahi

The real deal for eagles is Torunarigha,Iorfa and Adarabioyo.

My opinion

I am not much of a follower of the Bundesliga and I have not watched so many of Akpoguma's games. Truly, he was highly rated here. Truth be told, his performance was below expectations.
However, this is his first game, I hope he has what it takes to settle down fast enough.

I'm happy that Okoye performed well today. Someone wrote him off even without touching a ball. Thank God for time and opportunity.

mehn an eyesore of a match
My observations:
Ndidi, Etebo and Osimhen don't have able replacement. Will love to see Dessers tho. Agu and Onuachu should just take this match as a testimonial. Azeez is miles ahead of whoever we paraded in the middle today

Ebuehi and Sanusi were very good. Chukwueze and Kalu probably had their worse performance in a Nigerian jersey so far. But then, after they were substituted we had zero goal threat. Their poor performance could be because there was no striker they could link up with.

Ekong was probably the worst of any of our player who played as a defender today. Balogun was really impressive

Okoye was very solid and confident

Gernot Rohr has to be the biggest flop today. Zero reading of the game, zero tactical input. Poor substitutions.

Tunisia has to be better and hope we see more of the new guys as well so we'll know who are the quality ones and who are the pretenders

A good and well drilled team can play well with most of its players....everyone should be a key player as any player can get injured before or during a major tournament!

Strong positive from this game is SANUSI. A mahrez was pocketed for almost his duration in the match before he was substituted . He understood his defensive duties and made important runs when necessary. Give the guy some respect. Collins or aina would have made mahrez shine

Calm down guys. Friendlies are experimental. It is the essence for having them at all. There are very little at stake so they are only a sounding board for untested players and set-ups. Of course it is disappointing to lose any game BUT the results of friendlies is never the priority.

That said I doubt we can really hurt Algeria if both teams fielded their strongest line ups and it was a cup final.

Above average players in the current Super Eagles:
Wilfred Ndidi.
Leon Balogun.
Victor Osimhen.
Henry Onyekuru.
Samuel Chukwueze.
Alex lwobi.
Moses Simon.

Chidera Ejuke should be in the list, but he is to get an invitation first, and then feature, to get a deserved reckoning.

The listing above was drafted based on the impact the listed can exert when featured for at least 30 minutes.

I made this post not quite long ago, and i am posting it again.

The one thing I kept thinking in the course of the match, was the fact that we had nobody on that pitch that could reach deep and produce a moment of brilliance.

Iwobi had his occasional shots, but it would have been a whole different game if fighters like Osimhen and Aribo were on the pitch, people that can sprain their thighs just to nick a ball into the net, or fire an unstoppable shot.

There was nobody with that extra fire, the movement was almost pedestrian. Chukwueze didn't play alongside his paddy; he and Osimhen have that chemistry Iwobi and Kelechi used to have.

Long and short, it was a decent game and there were a couple of positives.
