You all keep helping these poor countries grow their economy by schooling there and leaving your own country. How many successful Nigerians do you know in Ghana? 2 Likes |

I would like to share my experience about SA. First of all for those trying to live there on a visit VISA I will advice you DON'T do it!!! You will be stuck and stranded because it is almost IMPOSSIBLE for you to change your status when you are in the country, they will refer you to go back to your country of origin to get a residence permit. I have been to SA four times 3 times on visit visa and finally the last time on student visa. I didn't really want to study anyway my aim is to go to Europe since my wife is European and the fact that I have been denied several times by European embassies in Nigeria (Germany Sweden 2x and Greece).
The first time I went there my mind was blown away immediately! This country is one of the BEST place to ever live. I have been living in Europe for the past 4 years and SA especially Western Cape is better than many European countries especially Eastern European countries. You can get decent accommodation in a nice neighbourhood for around $500-$600 per month. I used to live around the city center and its a bus ride from my school CPUT. The roads are clean and neat (European standard) and there is a-lot of activities to do there. You can also actually work and earn a good salary provided you have the required experience and degree because most South African companies prefer to hire foreigners than South African citizens. South African citizens usually depend on the government for assistance and they do get paid monthly even when they are not working.
I met the man who connected me to my school here on Nairaland. He had links to the school as he had previously studied there and he helped me pay for my insurance and also secured my accommodation. My application was approved at the Abuja embassy after only 7 days. I included the basic requirements like bank statement insurance etc and the application was very straight forward. I was issued a 2 years visa and I only spent five months in SA before migrating to Europe. If you want to migrate elsewhere (America Canada Australia etc) and you are having issues getting a visa or permit in Nigeria, then SA is your best route. They don't travel much and the embassies over there do not get work overload or cases of visa fraud.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in SA and we visited twice since we moved here. Amazing country and amazing people. I am actually planning to either migrate back there or Dubai next year once I am through with my citizenship application. . Peace! 7 Likes 1 Share |

Not yet bro. We need to know if they have started issuance of student visa since they resumed.
I don't know how they want to do all there considerations and confirmation.
Imagine, your brother applied in February and paid for insurance, submitted bank statements, medical clearance etc. Can all those things be still valid right now? Though the insurance still valid for let's say 4 months. |

Thank you for positive feedbacks like this. South Africa is really a beautiful country. Asides the frequent Xenophobia issue which are sometimes likely sponsored by politicians to create unrest, and the crazy crime rates in some areas, it is an Amazing country. Every Country has a problem they are dealing with. Western Cape is like a Country on its own (As Big as the Whole of England) and there a lot of things to do in South Africa. pufframmy: thanks for the advice it really help

Good day everyone. Can someone be kind enough to enlighten us on the choice of province and university to make.
In the light of Xenophobia. Cost of living and opportunities that may exist.
I heard PhD students don't pay tuition at University of Kwazulu-natal ( are there hidden charges to cover this?).
Some of us are interested in postgraduate studies there.
