In real life a number of variables will decide the answer to this question.

The generator does not see or know if there is an inverter on its output or even if the inverter is 1kva or 20kva, all the genny sees is a 'load' - the size and nature of the load relative to gen capacity will determine whether the gen carries the load

1) Charging current on the inverter - there are 5kva inverters with just 15-20amps charging current esp. the Indian origin types - 20amps at 60v max charge voltage for typical LA profile is 1,200 watts so a decent 3.5kva Gen will easily support such inverter charging.

2) Additional loads the gen is carrying either directly or bypassing from the inverter.

3) Nature of charge equipment - I won't go too techy here but some transformer based inverters can really stress a generator when charging. Transformerless inverters tend to present a lighter load and less stress to a generator.

For interest - I use a 5.5kva diesel Gen to drive my 15kva inverter which charges at 100 DC amps and 52.8 DC volts plus a steady 3kw of other house loads. This combined ~9kw of loads should overload the Gen but thanks to a feature on the inverter I can limit total power drawn from the Gen to say 4kw - if house loads call for 3kw, the inverter will take 3kw from Gen for loads plus 1kw from Gen for battery charging - all limits dynamically adjusted.

Even with a basic inverter without dynamic load management, a smaller generator can easily power a larger inverter provided the current draw for battery charging and houseloads is kept within the generators limits. Esp true in Nigeria where your typical household uses a 5kva inverter to run just 1kva of loads 95% of the time grin

omotoda:

You need minimum of 6.5kva to power a 5.0kva inverter efficiently.

Okay, after serving for 4 years, I think it died a natural death. Except for premium brands, most of the batteries on the market don't last up to 4 years.

brother,
batteries don't die a natural death necessarily by swelling up. i think op should carefully investigate why his battery
got swollen in the first place else any other replacement will suffer the same fate.

Make sure you buy a C10 and not the rampant C20. The C10 is more expensive. For luminous, you will see solar boldly written on it. It is sad that even the luminous marketers don't know why the "solar" tubular battery is more expensive than the regular tubular battery variants.
Try to read about the differences between C10 and C20. If you have good power supply, C20 may suffice.

Even quanta practises such trickery tongue.
Yellow quanta is the better variant, am certain the big distributors know this, but end up throwing out misleading info so as to sell off their stockpiles of old white carton stock

The difference is marginal though, a 220ah @c20 rating is almost same as a 200ah @ c10 rating

Good you chipped in, it appeared i was alone in stating that the gen can carry the inverter

Good day house,

Any member who has, or who knows who has, all or any of the following components:

1) DC Surge Device above 600V (to be used in a system of around 800VDC)

2) 415-500V 3-phase 4-pole AC Surge Device (to be used in a 400V 3-phase setup)

3) 3-phase voltage protection device, rated 400V

4) 3-phase load limiter, 400V 100A

5) 400A-500A enclosed Bus bar (for DC connections)

6) 100-200A enclosed bus bar (for inverters paralleling)

7) 250A and 300A DC Circuit breaker... Preferably, the 2-poles MCCB design; not the MCB version.

And 12V/260Ah Varta AGM Battereis......

Feedback needed ASAP. 08-18:26 25_213.... Whatsapp

Cheers...

I've been trying to understand the difference between this C10 and C20 stuff. I've read some conflicting and vague info about it online.

Can the gurus please explain which is better and why?

This is for folks like me who are using axpert variants for their lithium batteries that experience a well known early float bug. The work around for this is to set bulk and float at the same voltage e.g 28v which is a high voltage to float lithium. In my case before now, I just manage with 27.4v float and wait it out until the battery get full. However with solpiplog running on my pi and BMV in the mix, I am now able to automate that as follows:

@>91% SOC set float at 27v
@<90% SOC set float at 28v

That way the optimal juice from my panels goes into my LFP. So if you have a way to achieve the above you will be able to work around the float bug.
Renewable energy is both the present and future!

Have a good week ahead!

From my understanding, the lesser the C rating of a battery the more durable it is, as regards deep discharge. Ie it handles higher currents without much effect to the battery itself.

Usually the thickness of plates, quality of material used, total surface area or electrodes and some finer details used to make the Insides of a LA battery determines how it performs with regards to high charge/discharge. This tranlates into its C rating.
