The problem In my opinion starts from recruitment, Law enforcement all over the world face a lot of risk to their lives and they get poorly paid. So that is enough incentive for them to be corrupt and money hungry in a lax society like Nigeria

I remember one guy that used to harrass us in the area as teenagers joined police within 2 months he was shot by smugglers around Idi-Iroko

So its not a job regular educated and calm people will likely do. Aside the officer rank, those law enforcement on the street are usually poorly educated and poorly paid

So if you are asked to face bullets to protect people while only receiving 20K a month which wont even be paid until 4 months later because one oga has sat on your salary and you cant even protest or strike like other workers or else they will jail you for mutiny then your only source of survival is to be corrupt and harrass people for money

Look at most police barracks they are usually the in squalid conditions, very dirty, the children not properly taken care of. Na barracks boys and girls dey first tear eye beause they mostly hustle for themselves

If they had still remained under the current Police system, I doubt anyone will be praising them the way we do now.

Rrslagos is the only Police unit in the country that has Insurance (I stand to be corrected).

rrslagos are properly funded. They get paid salary and allowance as at when due

rrslagos does routine check on its personnel and continued training.

rrslagos takes accountability of its personnel serious. Any officer caught doing any illegal work is promptly disciplined.

rrslagos has better equipments. Better patrol vans, speed cars, power bikes and even helicopters. Every year companies donate cars and police equipment to them.

If the system is clean, policing will work.

What happened is the Lagos state government carved this unit out. They are being financed through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

Their primary task is to respond to emergencies... security emergencies..They have a toll free line. They have a structure, and they are assigned roles at specific areas in Lagos. For example, 3MB used to be notorious for robberies at night, but it has been minimal because the RRS are stationed 24 hours

Most importantly, they have a structure, so it's difficult for an officer to misbehave everytime
