plaindealer: You're the one having issues here. CP don't take orders from State Governors. Reason Sanwo-Olu made such was because of ruling party. IG could withdraw all Security aides of Governor with a snap of his fingers. Don't respond if you have not made your findings. |

bigeagleeye: He is very dumb. Many of them are just pained because APC lost in Oyo state instead of accept reality and move on. I remember a gov security aides were removed on the order of then IG. |

Skankamola: It is only a fool that will not try to do or say what is good just because they will not listen. Habaa. Makinde should know better. If he gives order to the police and does not take effects, then the statement he made now could then be made. So because your children will not listen to do something, then you will not play your role as a father? Why do we have people reasoning like sub-humans in this country?? |
Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by plaindealer: 1:17pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
Bambam321: This is your opinion, governors are the chief law enforcement officers in their states, they all know it and they all have security meetings with CP in their state every week. We see Wike, a PDP governor ordering the police around everyday as if the Nigerian police aree his private police. Only lazy and incompetent leaders like Makinde who is naturally lazy make up excuses for everything under the sun. |

Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by plaindealer: 1:27pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
Skankamola: This is your opinion, not facts as stated by both governors, governors all over Nigeria including the ones in PDP states are not crying and whining that they don't have powers regarding the Nigerian police, they do and we see this everyday. Makinde is a lazy man with no vision, no ideas, he's always coming up with excuses to justify his own incompetence and failings. What was the order he gave to the Nigerian police that the same Nigerian police disobeyed? Did he tell you what the oder was. |

plaindealer: Oga, I have followed your line of argument and even though you tried to sound intelligent, you are making a baseless and unintelligent argument (no insult intended). I could give you different instances corroborating what Makinde said. Remember Mbu vs Amaechi, Fayose vs Obasanjo and the role the police played against sitting governors. Did you read Ngige's narrative on how he was abducted and detained by an AIG despite being an elected governor. Even the Wike you are going on about lamented how a FSARS official named Fakorede or something was fomenting trouble in Rivers state. Funny the officer in question was just a commander and not even up to CP level. You can try to read up on all these and stop arguing blindly. 1 Like |

Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by plaindealer: 1:51pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
guywitzerogal: You have to think deep to understand basin english that he has no powers to control the Nigerian police when it's right there in the Nigerian constitution that they do have powers to control the Nigerian police in their states. The constitution gave him a lot of powers over the Nigerian police, it's right there in the constitution Makinde made than statement because he either didn't read the constitution or he's just clueless or just playing a fast one to fool people, either way, he's ignorant per the Nigerian constitution and the powers granted him by the Nigerian constitution over the Nigerian police.

Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by plaindealer: 1:52pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
michlan: You are entitled to your opinion and Mankinde can fool you because you are predisposed to being fooled by characters like Makinde, but the facts are not on your side or Makinde's side. The law opined that the governor can give lawful order to the Nigerian police and the Nigerian police shall obey such orders, not may obey, it's shall obey, meaning the Nigerian police must obey. Before defending the clueless and incompetent governor, read the constitution first.

Difrent: Very obvious what he was doing, he's complaining instead of taking charge, instead of giving orders based on the powers that the constitution already blessed him with. He either did not know anything about the powers the constitution granted him or was just being clueless and deceptive as usual. |
Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by plaindealer: 2:12pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
Sotland: You and Makinde are obviously clueless per the powers in the constitution that the governor can give lawful orders to the police and the police must obey such orders. Now, who is myopic? You and Makinde of course. |
Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by plaindealer: 2:21pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
bigeagleeye: I actually do have that fundamental knowledge and it's also in the Nigerian constitution for you and Makinde ro read and comprehend. Makinde lied that there's no such powers and sadly, lazy Nigerian youths fell for that lie instead of using their own brains be seeking knowledge to confirm or deny what he said. Me too, I won't still be tempted to say you're very dumb! |

plaindealer: Did you notice that the article you highlighted stated that "subject to the provisions of this section" which you failed to acknowledge. Try to read this for full details: https://punchng.com/control-police-president-governors/ Here is an important quote from the link: But in our situation, the Inspector-General of Police is under the control of the Presidency. You also have the commissioners of police in the different states. Where we have a crisis is when you say the governors in each state are the chief security officers and yet, they do not have control over their commissioners of police. The CPs are responsible to the IG. That creates some kind of dichotomy. I think that if we were running a true federal system, while the IG would be under the control of the President, the state commissioners of police should be under the control of the governors. That was Mamora, a former speaker and senator. Can you justify the picture you posted along with the instances I stated earlier. Why do you think Adedibu had so much power to disrupt a whole state if the police in the state could be controlled by Ladoja then if not that the then President was backing him. I remember how Ladoha appealed to Obasanjo to end the madness only for Obasanjo to come to Ibadan and state that Adedibu was a bone in the throat and Oyo should endure him. Do you think Adedibu would have been reckless if he was confronting Obasanjo then. The truth is that the influence of State Governors over police activity in their state is merely ceremonial and advisory at best which is subject to ratification by the FG. Not everyone on this platform are unconversant with politics and history. |

plaindealer: The Nigeria Police has a chain of command. Governor no dey there. He can only make appeals and suggestions. Even Wike said they are all more like Chief Logistics Officers. |
Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by idealogical: 4:41pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
michlan: I think you missed the OP's point. We all know that ultimately the power rests with the commander in chief, but we should not confuse ourselves with chain of command, what you quoted and the point that you are making still doesn't discount ot negate the fact that within that framework, the constitution arrogated powers to the governors as chief law enforcement officers to issue lawful commands to the Nigerian police operating in their states and the provisions says that they must obey. Chain of command or other provisions doesn't take away the powers given to the governors to issue lawful commands to the police in their states. The powers granted to the governors is there for a reason. The law is right there in black and white, it says the governors can issue lawful orders and the police shall obey such orders and the fact that the police answers to the IG or the president doesn't mean the governors are not equipped with powers to issue orders to the Nigerian police. The provision you are talking about says the police can seek clarification from their superiors which is perfectly ok, but it doesn't say the governors can not give orders or that the governors doesn't have powers to issue orders to the police. Read carefully. The news article you posted is just a news article based on several opinions, not the constitution. The constitution is very clear as posted by the OP so there is no need to max apple and orange. Frank Odita (A former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State) Going by your own article, this is from your own article. |

idealogical: Now let us relate your argument to the initial statement that led to the debate. The governor said they lack 'necessary power to control the police force', can you in all honesty say his submission is wrong? The question the OP has been trying to deflect is do they have 'necessary powers to control' the police force? |
Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by Nobody: 5:06pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
Emekaonline:Its obvious you and your lineage are the ones that reason like subhumans, the gov is saying its wrong for the police to be controlled from abuja, and yet they are addressed as CSOs with no real power and you think he is wrong for saying that? How daft. How do you want to move forward when you attack people who point out the problems with the current arrangement? |
Re: EndSARS: A Tale Of Two Governors, Jide Sanwo-Olu And Seyi Makinde by Nobody: 5:12pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
plaindealer:Even if makinde is lazy he is right for pointing out a problem everyone is aware of already, every one is clamouring for state policing and devolution of powers except those benefitting from the current arrangement. The state commissioner takes orders directly from abuja not the state gov. Thats a problem. |
