Nigerian Lawyer and Human Rights Activist Femi Falana SAN has condemned the appointment of Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari as a member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner.

Falana made this known in a statement signed on Tuesday, hours after Buhari announced the appointment, Channels Report.

Falana listed some criteria provided in the Constitution to determine who is fit for the position.

One of the criteria included the fact that members must not be partisan, a rule which he says Mrs. Lauretta is not compliant with.

He, however, described her as an unrepentant member of the ruling party and one who has consistently attacked members of other political parties.

Falana, that's your opinion, it's a political appointment so you are not revealing anything new, this is a democracy and the president is free to make political appointments.

Even in America where we copied democracy from, the heads of their departments, agencies and government aparators are are all political appointees, party loyalists and political contributors.

The want and shout democracy everyday, but they kick against basic democratic principles everyday.

This is one of those compensation appointments by GMB. Under Buhari competency is not considered but loyalty. If you can asslick the President and the cabals you will get an appointment.
