Sirmwill: According to the website worth of web dot com, this nairaland is worth close to 300 million dollars!!! No other nigerian site or blog comes anywhere closer. According to the same website, Bet9ja is worth close to 1 Billion dollars!!! But when you consider the gigantic traffic that Bet9ja pulls on a daily basis, you will know that Nairaland is not doing badly at all. 1 Like |

CSTRR: How easy is it to get investors to invest in technology in Nigeria? How many Nigerian billionaire invested Paystack till today when Stripe a foreign company were busy putting money in Paystack? I can't blame those young men. Besides, github got acquired recently. Whatsapp also got acquired. Yahoo is folding up in December. Blackberry is now extinct. Symbian is gone. Technology companies are also not immune to death. When you consider these you'd realize that getting acquired isn't so bad. I wouldn't have sold though. 9 Likes |

CSTRR: I hate to delve into you guys' intelligent argument, but don't you think that the young men have a better understanding of their market sector than we outsiders? I mean, they saw value in that sector when no one else did and swiftly moved in. They worked hard to create something great that got financial giants interested in them, and at this point, they felt it's a good time to sell at the amount they did. Looking at their market sector closely, you will see that a lot of competition is coming. GTB is coming with anger. Stripe too would have come in on their own if Paystack refused to sell. These two alone could intimidate them with cash. Remember, the sector evolves so fast. If they can't keep up, they'll eventually crumble. 8 Likes |

southniyikaye:guys, you got no excuse, I am science-based, run a tech company. I self learnt all I could to run. Get your idea and get appropriate developers to run it. Not every body must become a programmer to run a tech business. Just get a solution to peoples problems and get a developer to develop. You still own it bro 5 Likes |

I received this news with mixed feelings. On one side, I am happy that a Nigerian Tech Company has done so well to get to this point where it has to be admired and acquired by global tech giants. It’s a motivation for some of us Nigerian Youths who work assiduously and legitimately to make ends meet, solve problems as well as make the nation proud. It projects a good image of Nigeria and proper impression for young Nigerians. It shows that we’re not all Hushpuppies and Diezanis. On the flip side I feel pained. That was how we lost Jumia and other promising Prospects emanating from Nigeria to these smart westerners. Why do they have to keep swallowing everything that survives the critical death stage, leaving us with absolutely nothing of our own to be proud of? Why must Africa continue to consume innovations and inventions of the Wild West? Why are the governments not buying into these projects and companies to strengthen them to a point where they become global brands from Africa, contributing to the growth and development of the country and continent ? I’m just pondering about this with a very heavy heart. Why must my dream be to build www.ceoshub.net to a point where an American Company pays me heavily for it and takes it over leaving my country or continent with nothing to point to as “their own”, something that is contributing to global development which is coming from Nigeria or Africa? Well, I might be wrong in my thinking, but I think NIGERIA and Africa generally needs to watch it closely. How many global brands can we point to and say “this is from Africa”? |
