You’re one hundred percent correct! Schooling’s in Naija is totally bullocks. I have this deep seated aspiration to make enough money through business. I’ll come back to my University, sign an MoU with Authorities to privately run the Computer Science and Engineering Faculties.

I saw the problems they had so I know I can fix it. I’m dead serious Bro. I even registered an Edu Consulting Company with CAC two years ago just to keep on track with this aspiration.

A thread that gives serious #food4thought .
Though a lot of factors influences or had influenced (as the case may be) our choices of course study in the tertiary education, ranging from poor counseling, parental influences, exposure, economic factors and the society we find ourselves. Though not withstanding If I'm privileged to advise upcoming generations, I would say choice courses that compliment your inborn abilities. For instance, if from childhood years you have strong affinity to gadgets and technology. This set of persons with this traits if they happen to pick a course related to ICT and programming and they're unconsciously and consciously working on themselves. The likelihood of them excelling in this career path is more compared to someone who just studied the course with the notion that the course is actually selling.
By the way I studied Geoinformatics and Surveying in school, though it wasn't a pre-planned course for me but I did love to be an engineer based on my liking for it in my childhood days. Fortunately the course is engineering related. To cut the long story short, I'm still in the surveying profession and also a lover of business.
In essence, the four wall classroom is meant to packaged us for the future outer the four-walls. We make changes in our future by taking calculative steps everyday. Our habits is a preview of our future. Your course of study shouldn't define you, your habits does. If you're the type that's very complacent about life you wouldn't go far in life until you break-away from such evil thread.
My parting word is "Life must be lived" keep conquering the coast will clear if not yet but definitely.

Why won't you waste your years in the university? When we advise you to face your studies squarely and gets practical relevant skills related to your career, you will get busy chasing Ronaldo, Messi, computer games, Bbnaija, entertainment, Davido, buna boy, playing music abusively, abuse of social media and watching unnecessary movies that will never put food on your table in the future.

Now, you can go and collect your money from Ronaldo and Messi or let Davido borrow you money since you have invested so much of your time on them! Brilliant minds in theory and practical are needed in Engineering, not somebody who will go and be partying all around or chasing only CGPA, without focusing on how to equally develop his/her practical skill along. Out of 5yrs, you spent more than four years of your life on campus chasing irrelevant skills listed above and now when Kama is paying you back in your own currency, you begin to complain.

The same theory you were taught in schools is what many who have excelled today were taught but they didn't stop there, they were using internet opportunity to search for practicals that will make them become employable or skillful after graduation while you were busy chasing irrelevant skills all along or using the same internet to download only movies. You need to be loaded in relevant areas before you can be needed.

If you are skillful in your engineering areas and applications, you should be able to standalone on your own without looking for white-collar jobs or by trying to think beyond the box and come out with little invention, but instead you wasted your time and now blaming government and your ancestors.

If engineer, who suppose to be a job Creator and employer of labour by virtue of his/her profession, brilliance and default creativity begins to lament of joblessness, then, what should other professions do? Your problem is personal, look inward to solve your problem, cut down on what has been wasting your time so you can retrace your path back to success in your engineering profession.

Globally, richest individuals are from engineering profession and affiliated courses. Leave Ronaldo and Messi, Davido and buna boy for a while till you get meaning for your life because if you become frustrated in life, these people will never borrow you Kobo, even if they know you exist somewhere on this planet

Some observations
1.Most Nigeriaan students tend to lack pproper guidance and cunselling as regards coruses they shoud read in the uuniversity...so much so that at the end of the day, many of them read courses that they don't like or are not suited for 'just to get a degree'

2.Many Nigerians have this idea that government shoould dash them a job. That was true somewhat in the period 1960-80....when the government was replacing the whites...but not anymore.

3.Nigerians too hinder the development of the private sector . Like now, because most Nigerians support subsides in the power and petroleum sector, growth in both ssectors is stifled in the name of cheap price for fuel and power...and thus job growth is stifled....and thus there aren't enough jobs.

4.As some people have already said here...one needs to add value to one's degree...somehow.

I am not saying there are no other factors, but believe me, many students cause 70% of their joblessness. Lab works and SIWES are not enough to get relevant practical skills needed in modern engineering. Many of you are handling those lab works with levity and just to obtain good CGPA.

Many students never get serious, many lecturers and technologists handling the practical for lab works have never worked in the industries even for one day, but they want to train students to go to industries they themselves have never been to or worked before.

They only cram and read parts they want to teach from manual and when they feel confused, they turn it to assignment. Before you go for SIWES, from 200 level first semester after you stabilize with 100 level result, internet suppose to be used to explore practical of what you are being taught in theory in school and during holiday instead of using it to watch movies, chatting, thrending and socializing alone.

By the time you get to 400 level before SIWES, you should be loaded with modern practical skills even without seeing a single tool yet in your SIWES placement. Many students make mistake of relying on SIWES before getting proper practical skills; many organizations are hiding skills because they wouldn't want you to compete with them in the future while others just want to restrict your movement to office boy.

If internet has been used judisiously for practical acquisition, by the time you graduate from school, you should be loaded with relevant ideas ready to standalone and even making yourself become employable and job ready. Many of those shouting no job, no job, if you give them jobs now, how many of them are even ready skillfully to do the job?
