coldcandy: It’s not frameless window, it’s called “ cutting wall window” the frame used to fabricate this type of window is more bigger than regular casement window frame only that you will not noticed the Frame from outside. We did same here for NL member sometimes ago. Window size determine the cost 4 Likes

coldcandy: Is this your project or are you looking to replicate this on your site? I am not a fabricator by the way, I just have few questions. I understand people's choice and all but why frameless? How would a frame less window hold up in a long run? Just curious to know if there are science behind this design or just an overambitious fabricator overshooting the runway.. |

rotecch77: The frameless window ofcourse has a structural frame but no obvious frame around the perimeter. It is also called window wall and is installed between slabs or window opening to flush with the external wall. The curtain wall on the other hand is attached to the side of the wall by anchors and can run allover the height and width of the building. |

raymondFirstborn:Waterproof paint or water repellent screeding materials can never be as effective as undercoat and those would at best protect the part used. If there is no escape outlet for the water, it would still push it off. I have water repellent paint and could make water repellent screeding materials but then paint won't be able to bond to it properly. |

gbadexy: Ok, my area of concern is rising damp in especially old buildings. It's not like there's a direct impact of water and land is not water logged or swampy. Just typical dry land with an old building with damp, you don't think water proof coats would work?. |

raymondFirstborn:I think identifying the source of the water first is most important. With the information you gave, it could be from rain water soaking the walls from outside and a good quality matte paint could solve that. You still have to identify the likely source though. I only commented based on the available information given. |

gbadexy: In this case it's rising from the blockwork below ground level 2ft(600mm deep). The main concern are the internal walls. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by gbadexy(m): 2:50pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
raymondFirstborn:You could use undercoat for the internal. |

rotecch77: What could be the price for 4ftx4ft, 5ftx4ft, and 6ftx4ft? That should cover the range except a custom made windows. Nice windows though. Thank you. Hajji M. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by mufutau55(m): 3:32pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
gbadexy: I was thinking so, but the external wall should have a way to dry out the dampness; not able to dry-out could collapse the blocks. Hajji M. |

Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by gbadexy(m): 3:58pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
mufutau55:Yes sir. That's the best solution but they would have to use some special paint that allows water vapour to escape easily. The place would have to be well ventilated to avoid accumulation of stale humid air. The Idea behind suggesting undercoat is to provide the lower part of the external wall as the weak spot to allow water escape. |

raymondFirstborn: If I understand this correctly, it means the dampness is coming from the foundation. If that's the case, how can this have been prevented? Can this also happen to a raft foundation? |
